DHS to Get the DCA Treatment?

It used to be "the Disney Studios" on those old planning videotapes in the early 90s...
And on Disney buses, at least in the 00's. There were very specific limitations on how Disney could use the MGM name. I think that is what happened with those tapes, but the in the later years they could have just been weaning people off of "Disney-MGM".

Just curious -- how long has the Monsters Inc. Door Coaster rumor been kicking around? Has to be about 8 years now, right?
The rumor has probably been around since the movie first came out (in 2001 I believe?), because that scene just lends itself so well to a roller coaster. The current iteration of the rumor heated up in the late summer/fall of '08. Supposedly, it was on the cast member hub for a day before the stock market tanked.

I think Animal Kingdom is a bigger mess than Hollywood Studios. Besides Everest and the Safari, I can take or leave any other part of that park.
Animal Kingdom is at least cohesive. It still needs attractions, but the problems are simply a lack of attractions. With DHS, it has a handful of high quality attractions, but the park itself is disjointed. That's why the DCA treatment is a greater need for DHS. In the Animal Kingdom it simply needs expansion and a replacement for Dinorama.

I don't know how long exactly, but I know that the buzz about it really spiked on the forums around the construction of Toy Story Mania in DHS. That's when I first heard about it though, so it could have been around for a lot longer. :)

I know Dinorama is very unpopular, but I don't see "replacing" it as a good idea -- I'd rather see TDO focus on adding attractions, not replacing them especially with Triceratop Spin being one of the few rides in the park that all ages can enjoy. If they add Pandora (say 2-3 attractions) plus another land (Australia, Antartica, South America, Critter Country, whatever) with a few attractions, then we can talk about changing Dinorama. But I don't see the point of spending millions to tear down Dinorama and then spending money to replace it when they can just spend the total amount to build something and still have 2 rides from Dinorama.

YMMV.

With the subject of Dinoland and Dino-Rama being brought up, I just want to point out that Pixar is in the process of making The Good Dinosaur, a film about a world in which dinosaurs never became extinct. I think, if this film were to do well, it may be just what Disney needs to improve that area of Animal Kingdom.

Like what happened to Countdown to Extinction?

Isn't that one of Animal Kingdom's most popular rides? That's pretty much my only reason for visiting Dinoland in the park. Also, Disney made Dinosaur (the film), not Pixar, but I'm not sure if that's what you were inferring.

Ehh, the ride is basically the same today, except they toned down the dinos a bit and made a dialogue change. It doesn't bother me that much, and the original version wasn't around long enough to become a classic or anything. Part of the reason why I remember it being so terrifying in CtE was that the narrator never really gave you a heads up to what was coming. It was very monotone and when the dinos popped out, it was intense! I don't really mind the changes, because Dinosaur is a Disney film, and it really fits into the concept of the ride, which btw, is still an awesome ride imo.

If they could replace Dino-Rama with a Pixar based ride on their upcoming dinosaur film, I would be all for that! :)

This makes a lot of sense. I like your thinking. Spend the money on plussing AK, not tearing down and giving us a half-baked attraction. I don't like Dinorama, and I'd like it to eventually be removed, but let's bolster up the rest before doing this.

The people growing up with the "Disney" name before "The Muppets"

Um, yeah, except Kermit can never compete with Mickey Mouse when it comes to popularity. If he couldn't do it when Jim Henson was alive, he ain't about to do it now. :D

I don't believe anyone has mentioned it yet, but I liked seeing this bit in Al's article:

Al Lutz said:
Disney’s crafty social media team has worked wonders to bury the poor reviews coming in on Yelp and TripAdvisor that tell of shaky service and unpolished staff...

See...told ya they did that sort of thing...

Lee, that is exactly the sort of shenanigans that have been going on with Yelp for at least the past 5 years. There is a ton of Bolstered Stories to wade through on that site.

Hey, Lee ... who clued you in on the whole subject (and helped kill anotherDisneyPlace at the same time)?

BTW, after reading Al's story and hearing reviews from friends I am thinking I may stop into Carthay Circle for a drink and appetizer, but having serious reservations about making them to dine there.

I guarantee you RSR is going to get cloned, probably at DLP and one of the Asian resorts, most likely Shanghai. I remember reading that Lasseter wants it at a bunch of parks.

I wouldn't worry too much about WDW getting much of anything in the near future.

I would only guarantee the WDW info ...

RSRs is very pricey, even if reproduced and takes up a huge footprint. I can tell you for a fact it is not on the agenda to be built in either Paris or Shanghai at this time and I doubt it ever will be.

I dunno if it's connected to this, but Kathy Mangum of Carsland fame has moved from DCA to a WDW project that is NOT Avatar. Been told to keep an eye on this.

Kathy apparently is moving to a permanent position at WDW, but to what end, I'm not clear. But no one should read that to mean Carsland is coming to TPFKaTD-MGMS because it isn't.
