This is what concerns me. While Rome wasn't built in a day, and there is a lot of prep work going to be done, the lack of public announcement concerns me that this may be a long overhaul process... While there is of course speculation major changes will continue to make the parks look their best for WDW's 50th. 2021 still feels a long time away. 6 years to go! Woo hoo!! :-/

EC does need work more than DHS even with all that has been added it still feels lacking. But, glad to see work to mark the parks feel more complete and full! :)

I've seen this comment from people and I don't get it at all. Epcot can certainly be accused of being stale and "losing its way" in Future World (and arguably WS with Frozen on the way). But there's still a lot to do and at least a nominal consistency in theme. Unlike DHS which is just a jumbled mess of themes, has a terrible layout and really lacks attractions.

YMMV. I'd love to see Epcot get some love, but DAK and DHS are far more pressing.

Plus, A Bug's Land was another major addition as well as TSMM and the Monsters Inc ride) in helping revitalize the park and make it more "Disney". Besides that stuff and Cars Land, what was really added to DCA to make it more "Disney" -- a retheme of to Goofy for one ride and a Little Mermaid ride? Oh, and I guess slapping Mickey's face on the ferris wheel.

Also Silly Symphony Swings retheme, and World of Color.

I thought "a bug's land" was an original park location?

Either way, one of the main problems with DCA was that the theme represented things that were in driving distance from the park. Why would I care about seeing a fake golden gate bridge when I can visit the real thing? Why would I play in a Redwood forest area if I can just drive to the real forest?

Including more story type attractions made the park feel more cohesive and to an extent separated it from representing places people in Cali have already seen, and tourists aren't going to care about because they will just see the real thing.

The Carthay Circle Theater doesn't exist anymore, and ToT isn't at the end of Sunset, and you won't find Radiator Springs on Route 66, so in a way the park became more Disney-fied in the sense it created attractions that told stories (Disney ones included) that couldn't be told by a drive down I-5.

100% confirmed.

DHS - if plans pan out, and they are at a very late stage right now - could be getting an overhaul bigger than DCA got. I won't go further for now, suffice to say the plans are huge. Yes, they involve another name change, and yes they involve the hat too.

That's sounding positive, we had a conspiracy topic regarding some new maps for DHS that the hat was mysteriously missing from and some people were speculating that it was a sign of things to come. I'll be glad to have more things to do at DHS, I hope they give us some quality rides and not just cheapo spinners or more stuff like TSMM (not a fan, I luckily only waited about 10 minutes to ride it once and still felt disappointed, queue was infinitely better than the ride itself). Disney has the unfortunate habit lately of blowing through even a large budget and squandering it on crap, I hope they have some quality imagineers working on this project as well...

I won't press you for what new attractions we could get with this overhaul, but I was wondering if you've heard whether the Great Movie Ride and the Osborne Lights still have a future at WDW, or are they going to be sacrificed for the new stuff? Updates to GMR are welcome if done respectfully as long as the core ride remains (WDW, particularly EPCOT, has lost enough of these classic large scale animatronics heavy attractions and I would hate to see another get the axe). I'd be ok with Osborne Lights moving to a new location if that area had to be axed, but I just hope they find a new place for them somehow and don't kill them off entirely (WDW needs more holiday decor, not less). I'd ask about Tower of Terror, but i'm guessing there's no need to worry about that one given its still high popularity.
I still say that damn hat would look great for the turnpikes of Fantasmic. shadow for the cms at the doors and space to put giant screens before the show. :joyfull:

World Of Color was a big addition, despite its story issues. It's the equivalent to the nighttime fireworks show, something that's very "Disney".

You're also forgetting perhaps the most meaningful addition of all: Buena Vista Street and the Red Car. Establishing a proper opening act to California Adventure may not be a selling point to vacationers, but it improved the guest experience tenfold and brought a sense of place to what used to be an ugly concrete and stucco desert. I'd say it was the unsung hero of the California Adventure revamp. Improving the guest experience and creating a welcoming and detailed environment... that seems very "Disney" to me.

I just hope they don't replace the entrance with two giant postcards and concrete letters spelling out

F-L-O-R-I-D-A

hopefully, only the good ideas never die out at WDI.

I agree

I am at WDW this week and went to the frozen sing along the other day (which was actually surprising very well done I thought considering) and they kept referring to people in the audience as guests from Hollywoodland. Could be a sign

I think Pixar and Star Wars are the most likely additions. I am sure you don't consider Star Wars Disney created, but what about Pixar?

To cut to the chase - you're very likely right about those additions - they're gonna happen, no question. But I wish we could look forward to a Mary Poppins attraction, a Fantasia attraction, or something original. But some wishes don't come true...

Bingo. Like this a million times. That's how DCA became more Disney, and that's how DCA was saved!

Technically both of those are in the great movie ride.

I will admit now, seeing as that the park is gonna get a full "redo" why they would opt to add an addition to TSMM...as dumb as is sounded at first, they r gonna need the capacity with barely having anything open...

Does this mean we will finally see an updated Great Movie Ride???

While those additions do add to the experience the reality still is that the majority of the money was spent on rides based on Pixar properties.

In the case of DHS the majority of the money will likely be spent on Pixar and Star Wars but that doesn't mean there is no room for a few complimentary additions in various parts of the park to enhance the atmosphere and theme. For example they could upgrade Fantasmic, add a permanent Frozen attraction, refresh some of the existing shows with Tangled or Frozen, or get rid of the BAH to return the view while entering the park back to what it should be. All possibilities that would be small additions that wouldn't be based on non-Disney IPs. If they are making over the whole park I'm hoping for more than just adding Pixar and StarWars, but I'm thinking the majority of the budget will go to those things.
