DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

I think I've read this entire thread, but I apologize if I missed this subject somewhere. Are the street performers at DHS slated to remain or go? Seems to me they are a much smaller presence in recent years, though it might just feel that way because we spend less time in that park nowadays.

Sorry if this is a naive question. It just seems they won't really "fit" with the new direction, but then DHS is nothing if not disjointed...
Hi there, I cant say I am not worried for this honestly. I am a HUGE fan of Mulch, Sweat & Shears and cant think of where this would "fit" in the new scheme of things. Same for the rest of the streetmosphere characters, unless they morph into streetmosphere for the specific lands? @PhotoDave219 if you can find out anything that would be wonderful, although they usually dont get a lot of lead time on stuff like that, as we all know! Some of this was mentioned in a recent podcast where Jim was interviewed but another podcaster.

Rumors seem well founded though seem to be pieced together from current rumors from these forums. Well done but nothing really new.

RSR seeming more likely as an anchor for Pixarland. As long as it is in a building it makes logical sense.

Indiana however is a better fit for DAK or Adventueland. My final two cents on D23 2015.

What I can say so far:

Lots of money to try to fix the park.

Name change
Entry and exit road realignments
Possible parking garage
Star Wars presence - size and contents changing. Possibly around Echo Lake. Possibly behind Indy. Possibly on Indy.
Pixar presence - size and contents changing. Behind TSMM. Mickey Av possibly closed to guests.
Some of Streets of America possibly closing / remodelled / removed
One Mans Dream, Lights Motors Action and Voyage of the Little Mermaid expected to close early on in the process
Beauty and the Beast expected to change
Fantasmic! to be enhanced and the arena better utilised during the day

Thank you!

I've said elsewhere that after Avatarland opens in AK, they should close and retheme Dinoland. I suggest South America since Africa and Asia already represented. Retheme DINOSAUR to Indy (same type of track as Indy in DL).

I disagree with this. Dinosaurs are awesome and are a huge part of the worlds history. There is enough room to add Indy. Why take away something to replace it, when you can fix the existing area and add a new one?! That would be a win win.

Plus dinosaurs are becoming more popular than ever again due to Jurassic World. It would be silly to throw away a whole land devoted to them now!

That would be if you re-themed the Dinosaur ride. There wouldn't be two rides with the same track system themed differently next to each other. But the rest of Dinoland is an eye soar. It needs to be bulldozed and replaced with something else. That's why I suggested re-theming the whole area as pretty much the one remaining exotic continent--South America. If that were the case, change the theme of Dinosaur to Indy since it's the same track system as the one in DL.

Also, Jurassic World is a Universal Property. I don't think Disney would have much interest in trying to cash in on someone else's franchise. I'll agree that Dinosaur is pretty much the only redeeming thing in the whole area. But if re-themed as Indy, I don't think the average guest would pretty much miss the Dinosaurs. You would still be jolted along in the dark with Indy-themed animatronics hovering over you instead of dinosaurs.

To tie this response back to the DHS thread, maybe they could pull a page out of Hollywood Studios and close it and re-theme it sooner. If it's good enough for HS, it's good enough for AK.

Oh I understood completely what you were saying, I just still think dinosaurs are a key element in the animal world. Getting rid of the concept would be dumb. There were original plans that could be worked in now, If they just gave Chester and heaters the overhaul it deserves.
I'm also not saying Disney should cash in on Jurassic world, I'm saying due to its success, dinosaurs are in again and in a big way so making them present in the parks is a good thing.

Don't get me wrong South America could be cool and I think there is still plenty of room for them to add it in. They should just create a unique Indy ride instead of a clone, that way we can avoid the same ride system in the same park. But enough of that back on topic! Sorry everyone!

The past few times we've been, the CoH and HPW have been out a lot, one time with 3 different sets along Sunset Blvd. I don't catch MS&S as much as I'd like, but I've seen/heard them a lot on our last trip, too.

I'm not sure the new direction changes much for CoH or HPW. As long as Sunset/Hollywood Blvds aren't changed too much theme-wise, there's no reason they'd have to go anywhere. I am a bit more concerned for MS&S, though.

I'd hope they'd all be around long term. We make a point of seeing multiple CoH/HPW sets each trip. They're one of the most underrated things in DHS. Everyone in my family has been part of their shows at least once (my kids multiple times) and it's resulted in some awesome memories. We'll be incredibly sad if they were to be cut.

Actually it would in theory save more space at DHS if they were to bring Indy to Animal Kingdom instead of building something Indy related to DHS. We all know current Disney prefers to remodel instead of building something new. So why not re-theme a land. It would be the same crap they did with the Fantasyland Expansion. That could leave a lot of space to actually be creative for once with the future of DHS. Right now like others have said the Walt Disney Company is at a tipping point. It's entertainment division is flopping. I don't think "IF" Disney drops the ESPN brand and if they do, would take out the highly popular Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports as countless leagues and teams from across the nation use the facilities for tournaments. As for films, if the star wars reboot is anything like the Fantastic Four reboot, then expect the film never reaching the 2 billion mark it so desperately is being expected to make. That said, I don't know how many times we have to say this but TWDC ''WILL NOT ANNOUNCE ANY EXPANSION PLANS ON STAR WARS OR THE DETAILS WHERE WITHIN UNTIL AFTER THE RELEASE OF EPISODE VII". I wish people could refrain from continuing to make assumptions until after this weeks D23 Events. TWDC won't release any news until than and even after, it may take 2-5 years before the announcements even commence construction and completion. Just think New Fantasyland and Avatar Land if you think Disney can pull it off in less than a year at it's current rate of construction.

Waiting for D23, this is going to be a LONG week:
I know it's only seven days, but to me it seems like four weeks.
The first day seemed like a week.
And the second day seemed like five days.
And the third day seemed like a week again.
And the fourth day seemed like eight days.
And the fifth day, you went to see your mother, and that seemed jus like a day...

I'd appreciate Indy in DHS. As for Dinoland, it's only a few months until the Pixar film The Good Dinosaur comes out and, more likely than not, becomes a hit. It wouldn't surprise me if there are already plans. Dinoland is fairly weak so I'd welcome it.

I like your line of thinking but a land based on south america needs a much larger expansion pad imo.

So I just listened to this episode, and it didn't cover anything you mentioned.
Yes this isn't the right episode. So what on earth is the real one in which Jim actually says this? I've heard all of them and I can't remember an episode where he says this.
Sorry guys. When I said:
Latest rumors from Jim Hill (I think the episode was misnamed, so this link may not continue to work): https://disneydish.bandcamp.com/track/disney-springs-rumors-and-shanghai-disney-update
...I was correct. The title of the podcast didn't match the subject matter because it seems the wrong file was uploaded. The audio at the above link was replaced with audio that matches the title. My guess? The Hollywood Studios episode was prerecorded and mixed up with the Disney Springs/Shanghai episode, the former of which was not meant to be put online for another two weeks, and the error was corrected after I listened but before you listened. It'll probably resurface soon.

That is the figure I heard last fall so there could be validity in it.
So the $1.2-$1.4 billion figure was the figure when the board rejected the first Star Wars land? Or is my timeline wrong?
