DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

...I was correct. The title of the podcast didn't match the subject matter because it seems the wrong file was uploaded. The audio at the above link was replaced with audio that matches the title. My guess? The Hollywood Studios episode was prerecorded and mixed up with the Disney Springs/Shanghai episode, the former of which was not meant to be put online for another two weeks, and the error was corrected after I listened but before you listened. It'll probably resurface soon.

In this show from July: http://podbay.fm/show/452620851/e/1435726860?autostart=1

...Jim spends the DHS half of the show basically telling the listener to be patient and understand that nothing new is coming to DHS for a very long time.
According to him, the latest round of attraction pitches for the Star Wars expansion were met with a total lack of enthusiasm from the board, as everything looked really lackluster next to the upcoming Avatar project. The board told WDI to go back to the drawing board on Star Wars, and moved the Pixar Place expansion up. The Pixar Place stuff, meanwhile, will be a multi-phase project with the Toy Story flat rides and things coming first. A very scaled-down version of Carsland is lined up as a possible phase two, but certainly not definite. Jim also said that the "Disney's Hollywood Adventure" name change is testing poorly in focus groups and may be changed.

Overall, Jim's message in this particular podcast is that nothing is coming to DHS for 6-7 years, other than perhaps some off-the-shelf flat rides.

Yeah, I know, but that episode was recorded days before the board met and signed off on the plan (whatever it is). I suspect things have changed since then. Certainly the mood of insiders here has changed in that time.

Controversially opinion, but the current version of Test Track is the best attraction ever be in the building it resides in.

However, this is not the place for that debate. Hopefully we here something about the future changes to DHS next week.

this is most everyone's concern...

Well on the bright side, it would be good news, and kind of a shocker if the company rejected a proposal from WDI if it wasn't impressive enough. Usually the move is to scale everything back for budgetary reasons. Maybe rejecting proposals, for whatever reason, is a clever strategy to forestall construction indefinitely without letting WDI (and the stockholders) figure out that the company actually has no intention of pulling the trigger on the project.

I think the most likely course of action is for Disney to delay that Star Wars project until well after they know
A) How the Avatar project effects Animal Kingdom's performance and
B) How well the new Star Wars movies perform at the box office and drive merchandise sales.
That's why I think 6-7 years is a more realistic expectation before Disney puts shovel to dirt on anything besides the flat rides.

So the $1.2-$1.4 billion figure was the figure when the board rejected the first Star Wars land? Or is my timeline wrong?

I have no clue as to what those plans would have cost. Other than career reassignment.

I really think that a lot of people in the Disney community are confusing what happened last year with what happened this year.

Alas I will try and get some clarifications.

I thought WDI being sent back to the drawing board on Star Wars happened well over a year ago?

I'd say other than how it looks, from an attraction standpoint, Avatarland /Pandora doesn't seem all that interesting.

If they do it right, the attraction is the land. It fits into the concept of the Animal Kingdom. The animal kingdom is one of the best parks in the world to just walk through. It's a beautiful park/zoo. The attention to detail in this park is incredible.
Adding a boat ride, a soarin style ride (two indoor air conditioned rides) is perfect in my book. I also want to see an amazing walking trail....if it lights up at night it could be the best night time attraction in the world. We will see.
James Cameron is all about detail detail detail. I expect to be amazed.

It did...and I doubt it has happened a 2nd time.
If I'm not mistaken that's what Jim says in the episode when he mentions it - that this happened a year ago

So after talking with @RSoxNo1, looks like its an Old Podcast being referred to or reposted.

No need to panic. This is old information.
