Pixar. Star Wars. Name change. Lots and lots of money.

Because some E-ticket attractions things should be exclusive to certain parks. To quote The Incredibles: "When EVERYONE'S super, no one will be." Once you start carbon-copying atttractions, there's no reason to visit anywhere else.
Same reason that there shouldn't be a Matterhorn at the Magic Kingdom, and there shouldn't be a Rockin' Roller Coaster on Buena Vista Street, and why I'm rather glad Hong Kong got Mystic Manor instead of the Haunted Mansion.
I agree. Cars Land is amazing, but bring on something different. I'm not sure I want a potentially gimped RSR here. Monstropolis with a door coaster and a Transformers/Spiderman-esque Incredibles ride are my top votes!

Why???? That's totally bogus, Disney isn't in competition with itself. Whether or not the same ride exists on both coast is totally irrelevant. The concept of Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Main Street USA, Toy Story, Small World, Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, Tower of Terror, Dumbo, Tea Cups and most of all a Castle amongst a number of others seems to have worked really well over the years.

There is no logical reason why they couldn't have it in Florida as well other then in the imagination of people that for some reason feel that enjoying something should be limited to a specific place when the entire purpose of any of them is to entertain whomever is there at whatever place. Each place, especially WDW, will have things not found in other parks because of the uniqueness of the themes of the four parks. They don't all need to be there, but the ones that people really want to see should be without a doubt. I have never heard anyone say... Gee I wish they had Matterhorn in Florida. We kinda of have it anyway in the Blizzard Beach Water Park.

I think I've read this entire thread, but I apologize if I missed this subject somewhere. Are the street performers at DHS slated to remain or go? Seems to me they are a much smaller presence in recent years, though it might just feel that way because we spend less time in that park nowadays.

Sorry if this is a naive question. It just seems they won't really "fit" with the new direction, but then DHS is nothing if not disjointed...

I remember a long time ago reading Lasseter would like to see RSR cloned for other parks.

Fine by me. Maybe an amusing ode to Transportation thru the ages?
That would be pretty novel, to bad no one has ever thought of that before. However, in all fairness to Disney, I don't think that that concept would be gone if General Motors hadn't insisted and paid for it to be changed. They build cars and do not understand dark rides. Hopefully, someone tried to talk them out of it, but, if they were waving money in front of them, I doubt they did.

True enough. Still pretty sad though, when I allow myself to think about what once was.

Disney is neither short on ideas nor IP to use. Why settle for a copy (and sometimes a lesser copy) when WDW deserves something new. Strive for better.

HKDL is the shining example of why copies don't work, you can't realistically create a half-assed clone of Disneyland and not draw the comparisons of every single thing it is missing or does wrong. You also cannot realistically copy a 60 year old park that is built out with years and years of investment as a new project. The moment they went out of the way to create a new attraction (Mystic Manor) in lieu of an old one (Haunted Mansion), the park had its own voice and something worth visiting.

But that's just me, and I personally hate clones. I'm glad the current crop of Imagineering (or at least the Chinese government) seems to be demanding originality. The only thing from your list that seems to be sacred anymore is Dumbo... and a Castle. I say all the better.

Bringing this all back around to DHS, no I do not want RSR to cross the coast. DHS deserves its own identity.

I'm okay with clones... on a smaller scale. Massive scale attractions like RSR being cloned, I'm not a huge fan of. I'd rather that large amount of money and space be used for something new and unique to rival RSR, not port over a potentially gimped version. However, clones of smaller things like Soarin', Toy Story Mania, etc. don't bother me at all.

I haven't asked about streetmasphere.

I'll put it on a list and see who I still know in entertainment

What I can say so far:

Lots of money to try to fix the park.

Name change
Entry and exit road realignments
Possible parking garage
Star Wars presence - size and contents changing. Possibly around Echo Lake. Possibly behind Indy. Possibly on Indy.
Pixar presence - size and contents changing. Behind TSMM. Mickey Av possibly closed to guests.
Some of Streets of America possibly closing / remodelled / removed
One Mans Dream, Lights Motors Action and Voyage of the Little Mermaid expected to close early on in the process
Beauty and the Beast expected to change
Fantasmic! to be enhanced and the arena better utilised during the day

Latest rumors from Jim Hill (I think the episode was misnamed, so this link may not continue to work): https://disneydish.bandcamp.com/track/disney-springs-rumors-and-shanghai-disney-update
  • At the end of Hollywood Blvd, there will be grand entrances for Star Wars to the left, Pixar to the right to each deeply themed area... thus forcing a rethink of animation courtyard and the current Pixar Place (which is too narrow).
  • Disney Jr. entrance will probably be switched to Sunset Blvd, thus keeping it out of the Pixar area.
  • Radiator Springs definitely coming as the major draw at the rear of the Pixar area where the Backlot tour is now. (Jim Hill has said on previous podcasts that it will be a different, indoor version due to Florida's rain.)
  • DHS redo is $1.2-$1.4 billion "depending who you talk to." (My thought: this might be excluding infrastructure, hence why insiders here have so heavily stressed the $2.8 billion rumor includes infrastructure. Could there really be nearly $1.5 billion in infrastructure though?!)
  • Construction done in five phases in about as many years, but we're already in phase one.
  • Disney will try to keep staff levels the same until "full build-out"
  • Indy ride from Disneyland NOT coming, but don't discount something new from Indiana Jones since Disney acquired the rights.
  • The infrastructure improvements are so vast that they're having to redo the drainage plan for the park. (Example: permit for south of S Studio Dr.)
Great episode to listen to, as usual.
Yes this isn't the right episode. So what on earth is the real one in which Jim actually says this? I've heard all of them and I can't remember an episode where he says this.
