DHS Makeover - What we know so far.....

Darth Sidious

Authentically Disney Distinctly Chinese
The irony of all there is is if you listen to a particular blogger that I don't necessarily care for… Mel Brooks was brought in to help create an attraction at MGM studios…

Apparently it never got off the board. Too edgy for Disney.

Star Wars Land can naturally transition into a new land occupying the LMA land... Welcome to Spaceballs: The Theme Park!

Merchandising! Synergy!

Which would never, ever appear in a Disney attraction because there is no way in the world they would ever pay the millions it takes to get Brando's likeness. He and Sinatra are pretty much the most expensive dead celebrities to license.

I am the biggest GMR purist out there...I would panic (literally, panic) every time I ever heard those "GMR is changing" rumors....but the videos I've seen of the makeover did a great job of "updating" without changing it...rather than put a bunch of newer movie scenes in to pander to younger audiences, they simply explain "these are CLASSIC movies" so if you don't know what it is you're looking at, you can simply refer to that d*** mobile device we all can't stop looking at and Google the title when you get off. I'll even admit, most movies I watch at home become interactive anymore-I'll be looking up actors other films, trivia, etc on IMDB because I get all the more engaged in the film.

I'm amused by the idea of "updating" the Gangster scene with a movie already pushing 45 years old. Plus, since Al Pacino was the central character of the trilogy, he might be the one more likely to make the cut than Brando. But there's some merit to what you say-I've always thought some of the bigger scenes in the ride could be refreshed by inserting appropriate characters (a la Capt Jack in POTC) to create more of a collage of the genre, like how John Wayne and Clint Eastwood appear "together" in the Western scene. Where Cagney appears in Gangster Alley, why couldn't you look over opposite him and see Pacino's Michael Corleone standing there? Or have Na'vi pop up out of the trees in Tarzan (more of a stretch, I know)? Or redress that first little part of Nostromo and have C3PO and R2 standing there? Very easy, very simple (licensing notwithstanding).

Or maybe they'll ditch Carsland for something else..

I'm intrigued, but I fully expect to see some Cars presence at DHS when it is all said and done. The IP is just too popular a money maker for them to ignore it at WDW with all the money slated to go towards the parks in upcoming years 9and a new Cars movie on the horizon). At a minimum, I think we will see a solitary attraction with merch and some M&G with the "living" cars they have at DCA.

They should add a Marvel land and between that the Pixar and SW attractions just call it Disney's Subsidiary Studios (Adventure).

Out of curiosity, for those who may be in the know, we seem to be calling Toy Story Land Phase 1 and Star Wars Land Phase 2, yet there seems to be a pervasive Phase 3 continually in discussion on this board. Is a third phase/attraction something that really will be happening and just hasn't been announced, something that we conjured to happen just because we weren't necessarily satisfied with the extent of what was announced at D23, something that was originally going to happen but was canceled/delayed, or something that is still a blue sky project and they'll wait to see how some of the current projects go before green lighting anything? I mean, it seems probably/likely that (at the very least) a name change is still in the works for the park, but how certain is this "Phase 3"?

I spoke with Jim and it looks like I misunderstood the math. There's a new Force Awakens scene at the beginning, then the usual ride. Not sure what I was thinking on that. Sorry.
Sorry to bump this comment, but Len, can you clarify further? Will there be a new Force Awakens destination or will it be a new opening scene (adding to the Darth Vader intro and Storm Trooper intro)?

Absolutely. Maybe make it a bit smaller of an event as they used a lot of the space that will be walled off or the space by the new Flex theatre. However, the park needs *something*.

Too bad that something is more Star Wars (Season of the Force).
I didn't think of them losing the open parking lot space behind R&RC to the flex theater. However, the interactive sports zone was behind the Toy Story soundstages the first year, so who knows.
