We keep hoping the same thing at every milestone, but yet still no real announcement with any details. I just don't think anything more is going to be said, other than maybe some fluff "hey look we're making progress" parks blog post, until D23 next year.

It seems to me that Disney will delay deciding on the final configuration for as long as possible. They can start with Bug's Land (it was was always going to be sacrificed), which will take at least 18 months. If the the political winds in Anaheim change in the meantime and a version of the Eastern Gateway is revived, maybe expansion goes north. Maybe nothing changes and expansion goes behind MB. Keep the options open.
They’re delaying because Star Wars Land. Superheroes Land won’t be detailed until well after the launch of Star Wars Land and the new parking structure. Why mess up the marketing message? Plus budgets haven’t been freed up.

If you really want to think about it, as I did, the direction they are heading in really fits the modern day California theme..

Pixar Pier - cheap and low-quality California Pier, with loveable Pixar characters
Cars Land - CA / AZ border? Probably AZ seeing that it's cleaner and the restrooms (rest stops) are actually OPEN and clean
Marvel Land - Inspired by the Exxon Mobil / Refinery Services plant in Torrance, CA
Hollywood Land - An old and outdated mess

I was certainly wrong in thinking the name DCA should be changed.

When I visited DCA I wasn't even so much angry about Pixar Pier and Mission Breakout as I was sad. Like, Grizzly Peak, Buena Vista Street, Cars Land, and new/old Paradise Pier were all so well done and on the right track. It could've been a great park. Ugh.

I remember when they were re-doing the entrance, and constructing Cars Land - I was thrilled for the future of DCA. It was focusing on the beautiful parts of California back in its golden age. I was hoping Hollywood Land was next to get its big re-do.

But now, In a sharp decline since $hapek took over, it's heading in a direction I just don't recognize.

ToT > M:B
Paradise Pier > Pixar Pier
Soarin over CA > Soarin around the World
Muppet Vision 3D > nothing

To be fair Soarin around the World was under Staggs as it has been part of Shanghai which was his project....

I don't even mind the idea of taking out Soarin', Muppets, or Aladdin, I feel like those were expendable attractions that could use their space better for one reason or another. I didn't complain when their changes were announced in hopes that their replacements would be better. Unfortunately, they weren't. But those were changes that could've benefited DCA but instead didn't. Mission Breakout and Pixar Pier both dumbfounded me at their announcements and upset me with their results.

That’s a good way to put it. With GOTG and Pixar Pier we knew they were going to be bad from the start. With Soarin Around the World I was semi- excited for something new (especially since the California version can bet put back very easily) but very disappointed with the result.

With Muppets, I didn’t care at all. I figured that Backlot was on its way out and was excited for a possible of an announcement of something new in its place.

With Marvel Land, I don’t feel quite as bad about it as I did with GOTG & Pixar Pier but I’m not liking what I hear. Phase 1 sounds like it’s going to be a huge disappointment and the super hero campus/ brewery theme rumor sounds very underwhelming. Sounds like another rush job for insert (x) reason. As far as the final product( phase 2, 3 or whatever) I have mixed feelings because it’ll be great to get a couple thrill rides but aesthetically or thematically I don’t have high expectations for the land. I think there is a solid chance that it won’t have the appeal of Bugs land thematically/ aesthetically. Especially considering WDIs recent work at DCA.
