dealing with a guest who was rude to a CM

Some people are just so miserable inside that I think they must try to make everyone else that way too by being rude:brick:
Makes you wonder what they are doing at "The Happiest Place on Earth" ??
I hate to see people act that way... Great job taking a stand!:)

Well, let me just say this. Being raised in a Hispanic Family with a long heritage of headstrongness and the refusal to believe one is wrong at any time, I am proud to say that if i were to ever act like that to any person, ESPECIALLY a Walt Disney World Cast Member, trained to be both polite and threatened for loss of their job not to ever be rude back, literally defenseless... my mother would not only take a clear shot across my face (despite what age i am or where she is when she hears the news), but would cordially invite anybody and everybody around me to also portake in slapping me around.

I know it never really happens in this thread, but sometimes i'm sick and tired of people placating such rude events with the mindset of "he works there, and he knows exactly that things like this will happen." It's disgusting, it really is. And i specifically mean cases where it's not the worker's fault, in this example the cast member.

For both Craig & Lisa and Ariellover, I commend both of you and your selfless actions like you wouldn't believe. Thanks a lot, it means more than you think to us.

on our last visit...

we were standing on the corner of that little street and main street in MK. the street on the right looking at the castle. This young kid comes out with a hot dog cart.. Immediately he is swarmed.. But he has no one to help him set up.. so he is working alone.. This one fool starts jumping all over the kid.. screaming and what not.. so little ol me.. 6'5" 300 lbs.. walked over to the guy and politely asked him to stop as it was disturbing my constitution.. He took one look at me and .......... decided to walk away at a rather fast clip.. Seconds later out come a SUIT AND TIE GUY.. questioning the kid and what was going on.. I immediately walked over to the suit and told him, that the kid was working his BUNS OFF.. so to speak.. and that the guy was an idiot.. and told him that he would want 100 kids just like him working the park. See it seems that who ever was assigned to help the kid didn't show up for work and his supervisor sent him out alone..

we ended up with a free coke.. Big Deal.. but what I didn't want was for that hard working kid to get into trouble.. He didn't deserve any of the trash that he got from that guy at all..

Worst think i ever saw was about 15 yrs ago. This guy , with his wife and kids in tow,was berating this CM. The cast member was maybe 90 pounds soaking wet. I couldn't beleive it when he got physical with her, grabbed her and started shaking her. I have alwasys been small for my age (yea right 6'-1",200 pounds). When i walked over to him and gently pulled his hand from her the guy decided to take a swing at me. A few minutes later he was unconcious on the ground (oh did I mention I have studied martial arts since I was 5, and had been teaching it for about 8 years at that point). Well next thing I know security and the police are there. Oh OH, I guessed I was in trouble, the CM was talking to them. One of the officers came over to me and I thought, well thats the end of that. The other officer handcuffed the guy and started escorting him away. The officer that came over to me just said thanks and shook my hand. I couldn't beleive it. The CM thanked me and my family and I just went back to our day at the park.
To this day my daughter always laughs when she gets anywhere near IASW. She's like careful dad might beat someone up, the song makes him go mad.

:ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL: :ROFLOL:

that's an awesome story!!!

I don't like it when CM's are verbally or physically abused. I'm glad there are people who actually see something wrong with that and stand up to people who are doing wrong. Cheers to you all for taking a stand.

And there are the guests who think its some type of sport to see how many characters they can beat, drop kick, punch, etc...I really think that is so stupid when people behave like that.....If I see that I won't put up with that!!!

These stories are awesome. I always try to go out of my way to be nice to CMs or anyone that works in retail. I know how those jobs are. The nice people make your day and make the job worthwhile, IMO.

Great to see this! :D

The angry guests don't bother me in the least, but it's gotta be a lot tougher for QS, resorts desk, turnstiles, and relations. They get mad props from me. Lot of pressure for them to be "in character" as well.

Dude, you are so the man! Good for you, and I wish the earth was populated with more people like you! It's good to see you stand up for what's right.

And if you had gotten in trouble, you could always claim that IASW drove you to it. Justifiable knockdown or something.

exactly why...

I think it's great how you helped that CM out when she couldn't help herself without fear of losing her job.

That is exactly why I make it a point to humiliate any person who abuses the castmembers. I publicly mock them and do my utmost to make them look like fools (which is not hard when you have good material to work with:)). I'm often thanked (quietly) by the victimized castmember in question. (After all, I am just doing for them what they are thinking and cannot act upon.) Although this method is not recommended to those not wanting to confront others, I must confess I take a certain joy out of humiliating those so pathetic that they can only be taller by standing on top of others.:drevil:

It's sad how people think they can treat CMs even if the CM is just doing their job. I know I was yelled at many times when I worked down there by people...one time I was cornered by two guest against a fence because they claimed I gave no notice before Goofy went to check on Max. Finally an older gentleman told them to knock it off...but it was scary!

Good for any person to stand up for a CM!

i use to work turnstyle at the magic kingdom so i have my share of "fun" guest. My best was the guest that started to yell at another guest cause he cut him off to get in the park. so i got them to stop fitting and what not, but as soon as he was in the park he started again so i removed him from the park. knowing that he had to wait like 45min to use his ticket agian made me happy. but no he went to secirty complain and they let him in.
moral of the store don't fight before you get in the parks

I actually saw a drag down knock out fight at the MK monorail station last year. A little added bit of entertainment that Disney didn't charge us for..lol.

What is it about CMs running around dressed as animals and ficticous characters that brings out craziness or evil in some people?

I LOVE this quote!

Today while waiting for a pineapple Dole Whip, yum :slurp: , a guest was served a piece of pineapple, she tried to give the wrap that it was in for the CM to throw away, and was told in a polite manner that the garbage was at the ends. She made a half turn, said rudely "I don't see it", and thru it back at the CM. I asked the CM to give it to me and went over to her and said she forgot something. I was told to mind my own business. I just walked away, her BF, husband, tried to get in my face, as I explained to him what she did, he looked at the CM and she said yes that is what she did. He said to mind my own business as well, and to tell him if there was a problem, I told him he was right there and how could he miss it. He tried to push the matter but I ignored him. I turned to the CM and said there was no reason for her to do that to you, and said I was sorry for what happened afterwards. Then I ordered my Dole Whip, yum :slurp: , and when I gave her my DDP card she said don't worry about it. I did not want anything for free, I was just trying to stand up for a CM who did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. I thanked her very nicely and walked away. Later I thought I should have taken her name and give her praise at the Guest Services, but in the heat of the moment it slipped my mind. :hammer: It takes all kinds

One thing this story makes me want to point out is that, when I encounter a rude guest in a busy area, I'd say nine times out of ten another guest, or usually guests, backs me up, makes a reassuring comment or makes sure things are okay. That, by the way, is one of the best ways you can help keep your CMs happy so they can help you have a Magical Day.

I once got knocked over by a guest getting out of a ride and got my foot stuck in the system. I was dragged for a few feet before I had the wits to stop it with my remote. Now, the guest who knocked me over high-tailed it out of the area, but every single guest behind her stopped to make sure I was okay, save for the one that chased after her (not sure what came of that). I was fine, and it's an extreme example, but that's the way our guests tend to be in my experience, and I thank all of you who have made a Cast Member's day a little easier.

Whoa...definitely an unmagical incident. :fork:
