dealing with a guest who was rude to a CM

Today while waiting for a pineapple Dole Whip, yum :slurp: , a guest was served a piece of pineapple, she tried to give the wrap that it was in for the CM to throw away, and was told in a polite manner that the garbage was at the ends. She made a half turn, said rudely "I don't see it", and thru it back at the CM. I asked the CM to give it to me and went over to her and said she forgot something. I was told to mind my own business. I just walked away, her BF, husband, tried to get in my face, as I explained to him what she did, he looked at the CM and she said yes that is what she did. He said to mind my own business as well, and to tell him if there was a problem, I told him he was right there and how could he miss it. He tried to push the matter but I ignored him. I turned to the CM and said there was no reason for her to do that to you, and said I was sorry for what happened afterwards. Then I ordered my Dole Whip, yum :slurp: , and when I gave her my DDP card she said don't worry about it. I did not want anything for free, I was just trying to stand up for a CM who did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. I thanked her very nicely and walked away. Later I thought I should have taken her name and give her praise at the Guest Services, but in the heat of the moment it slipped my mind. :hammer: It takes all kinds

That is a really wonderful thing that you did. Some guests are just so rude, and it's nice to see other guests stick up for CM's. One thing that is tough about being a CM is always having the constant cheery attitude, but when people are rude to you, you can't be rude back or you risk your job. Some guests take advantage of that. When i'm in the parks, I do the same thing :)

That's really nice of you do do that! I don't get why guests have to be so rude. I mean... it's the happiest place on Earth!

I think it's great how you helped that CM out when she couldn't help herself without fear of losing her job. I'd think it greater though if things like that didn't happen. Guests can be incredibly rude to CMs, as I and many of us can attest to.

Craig & Lisa, do you happen to have the reciept that was given to you for your Dole Whip? I believe that Guest Services may be able to take a comment based on the information on the receipt. It should show which CM rung you up. A long shot, I know, but I also know I tend to keep most receipts for at least a few weeks!

Worst think i ever saw was about 15 yrs ago. This guy , with his wife and kids in tow,was berating this CM. The cast member was maybe 90 pounds soaking wet. I couldn't beleive it when he got physical with her, grabbed her and started shaking her. I have alwasys been small for my age (yea right 6'-1",200 pounds). When i walked over to him and gently pulled his hand from her the guy decided to take a swing at me. A few minutes later he was unconcious on the ground (oh did I mention I have studied martial arts since I was 5, and had been teaching it for about 8 years at that point). Well next thing I know security and the police are there. Oh OH, I guessed I was in trouble, the CM was talking to them. One of the officers came over to me and I thought, well thats the end of that. The other officer handcuffed the guy and started escorting him away. The officer that came over to me just said thanks and shook my hand. I couldn't beleive it. The CM thanked me and my family and I just went back to our day at the park.
To this day my daughter always laughs when she gets anywhere near IASW. She's like careful dad might beat someone up, the song makes him go mad.

The other thing that we did was when we left our resort we had left a tip and a note saying thankyou for working the holiday, and as well to all CM's who we came in contact with on the 4th. :D

Good 4 U! :sohappy:

And to ArielLover:

I've always found there are certain advantages to having size on your side! :ROFLOL: I'm 6'3" 250, when I step in to defend someone smaller it's extremely rare the bully will even think about taking a swing at me. :lookaroun

One time I was at the MK at the stand where they sell the cream cheese filled pretzels. The guy in front of me ordered one, but apparently he didn't realize there was cream cheese inside it. As soon as he took a bite he spit it on the ground and started yelling at the CM about how disgusting it was. He was totally making a scene and wouldn't let it go. The CM gave him his money back and was being really nice and saying she was sorry he didn't like it but he still kept yelling at her. I felt like saying, "didn't you read the sign before you ordered!" I felt really bad for her. I hate rude people!!

IMO there is never a reason to be rude to anyone let alone a CM at WDW.And what is it about IASW that brings out the rudeness in people?

I've raised my kids with a more Eastern philosophy so we tend to be ultra polite. The extra special treatment you get in return for being polite is priceless and the way I see it, CMs are not our personal servants (though when you are polite to them, I think that theyare so shocked that they tend to go that extra mile for you). It's a shame that they are expected to tolerate such abuse just to stay employed at WDW. What is it about $6.75/hr customer service jobs that makes the management expect you to take abuse that could normally put the abuser in jail (in NJ, throwing someting at a person, evenjust a piece of plastic wrap, is considered assault and can be chargeable...no joke).

And we wonder why the quality of our education and our culture in general is going downhill? That woman is probably someone's parent and you can only imagine how she treats everyone else around her and how her kids behave. I won't get started on what I've seen go on in school as a teacher...

so let me get this straight he said to "tell him if there was a problem"?

Is he her BF or parent?

thanks for sticking up to those MO-rons. I hate seeing people pushing people around for no reason.
