Am I the only person here who just doesn’t get the whole Hatbox Ghost obsession?

The one at Disneyland looks out of place to me. It's like it's too bright/modern for the surroundings or something; can't really put my finger on it.

I couldn't care less if it goes in the WDW version, other than the simple fact that Disney spending money to do any kind of plussing to attractions is generally a good thing.

People got interested in the Hatbox Ghost, because he was a complete mystery. Back in the 90's, the only proof that the Hatbox Ghost ever existed was eyewitness accounts and old publicity photos none of which actually showed the figure on the ride. No one knew why he was removed/if he was ever actually installed on the ride.

There's also his connection with the bride especially in the original iteration of the figure (her heart beats were timed with the Hattie's head switch-a-roo), that makes it interesting from a lore perspective.

I can’t speak for WDW, but he was a Disneyland mythical legend for many decades. He was installed, but was quickly removed because they couldn’t get the effect to work, from my understanding. Modern technology now allows for the effect to work properly, and Disney finally brought him back for the 60th, which made a lot of fans happy (myself included) because DL fans are known for eating up nostalgic things from the park’s history. If the PeopleMover really is returning home, I’m betting the response will be even bigger.

Don’t get me wrong: I certainly understand the interest he’s generated from a Disneyland history/lore perspective, and I’m happy he’s been brought back there. It’s the idea that he’s somehow needed at WDW too that feels a bit like overkill (pun intended!).

I definitely get that, and I understand why some would argue that he should remain a Disneyland exclusive. But from a marketing perspective, they have fully made him a part of merchandise, etc. He's nowhere to be found at WDW.

That being said, I personally think the AA is awesome and would love to have him there.

I definitely get the overkill. I believe two figures were made, one for DL and one for MK. The DL one was installed, then removed, and the MK one was never installed, from my understanding. I could be wrong about this, though.

With that being said, Hatbox is definitely more of a DL thing.

Purse strings releasing for Parks and Resorts…

Can any other insiders confirm that this is correct? With the good financial results, it seems like doing some investing in the parks might actually be plausible. Could we be having an exciting D23 in terms of the parks?

It's not really an impressive effect in Disneyland. I'm not 100% sure how it's done, but OLED screens make this a simpler effect.

I like that it's there in Disneyland but there are some people that believe his presence makes the Disneyland version superior than the Disney World version and that's simply not true.

I love both versions of the attraction itself, but the exterior of DW's Haunted Mansion is (in my opinion) thematically and visually much stronger.

Does anyone know where we make the panel selections? The D23 Expo app or the website? All I could see is the time we can start making the selections.

I really like MK’s facade, but the kiddie queue diminishes it a little for me. The effect works better at DL because the facade doesn’t attempt to be scary at all, and the queue doesn’t counter it. MK’s facade looks a bit menacing, but then the interactive queue messes that up. Still, it’s lovely.

With all this being said, Mansion at MK was one of the rides that I really, really enjoyed during my very short visit in May. It’s on par with DL’s, in my opinion.

Thank you! I was able to figure it out but was starting to get frantic as I was shuffling work and the panel selections at the same time.
