My guess is whatever is announced only half of it will actually happen and then that half will get budget cuts and look nothing like concept art

Rinse and repeat next year
I doubt too much of a budget will be cut though. We're just now exiting the era of theme parks being financially pressured from the pandemic since both 2021 and 2022 should have been strong years for most of the major U.S parks

It would take a lot of LLs to equal the cost of a new ride
Do the math. The money is rolling in with it. I’m sure we will hear all about it tomorrow at the earnings call. To a certain extent it’s back to the old ticket book days where Disney can once again put a dollar value back on rides and determine how much money new E tickets will bring in and how long it will take to see their return on investment.

Yes, let's do the math. At $15/LL slot, if they sold 2k slots for one ride in a day, that's $11 million in a year. And there are only 4 rides with LL at the moment. WDI can't do a site survey for $11 million these days. When new rides are going north of $200-300 million, your argument breaks down in a hurry. Bump it up to 5k slots per day and you're still looking at 8 years to recover $200 million in construction costs for one ride. GotG was double that cost, if not a shade more.

We know LL is getting over 50% of riders on those 4 rides. I’ve seen that number closer to 75% but I’m sure it varies by ride. 8 years to get your money back is a great investment and that’s just on LL not counting the normal rise in ticket sales which was the main way they judged ROI prior to LL. These are large sums of money that Disney was not receiving prior. Plus your numbers are way too low. Cosmic rewind has an hourly capacity of 2,000 passengers and it’s open 12 hours a day. If we conservatively say 50% of the riders used LL that’s 12,000 a day which comes out to over 65 million a year.

Wasn't some of the MK stuff (besides the Walt hologram thing) supposed to come along with the 50th anniversary celebration originally?

I think he also mentioned, or maybe it was someone else that the light parade originally planned for the 50th got pushed out for the 100th next year. Would be nice if that was the case.

It’s because imagineering doesn’t exist anymore, everyone has either quit or been laid off and Disney is saving money by not doing anything anymore.

This is literally the final stage of the path Eisner put us on in the early 2000s that everybody warned about (you can search this website for conversations from the past twenty years for a trip down memory lane if you’d like)
Preach…

damn are they selling that many LL? I still have never used it and while Im sure people do, 50% seems like a stretch

An easy test is see how much quicker LL lines move once you’re in the line compared to the regular line. If they move the same speed it’s 50%. If it’s quicker it’s higher. Slower it’s less. But yes they are 50% at minimum.

Details on the reservation process for D23 -

The Reservation Random Selection Process (“Reservation RSP”) entry period for all D23 Expo 2022 event days will open on Monday, August 15, at 12 p.m. PT, and conclude Friday, August 19, at 12 p.m. PT.

Be sure to transfer any additional badges to individuals in your party by 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday, August 14. After this time, badges will no longer be transferable. An individual can only submit one reservation entry per badge type. Example: if you purchased two Friday badges, you can only request a reservation for one badge and the other must be transferred to another person for them to request a reservation. Badge transfers will not be allowed after the reservation process has begun.

Please note: A valid, activated D23 Expo adult badge is required to check in for a reservation. Children under the age of 16 are unable to make reservations, but can accompany an adult as their designated guest. You will be able to make one reservation per time slot. If you do not arrive by the time specified prior to your reservation, your spot will be filled by standby guests.

HOW THE RESERVATION RSP WORKS

Unlike past years, the Reservation RSP is not first come first serve. You will have until 12 p.m. PT on Friday, August 19, to make your selections before the entry period closes. You can return to the page as often as you would like to review and modify your reservation selections before the entry period closes.

Reservations will be randomly distributed based on preferences and availability, and starting September 2, reservations will be assigned and then communicated to you via email if you have a confirmed selection(s).

There are four (4) categories in which to make your reservation selections. Each section will allow you to choose up to four (4) items. The more selections you make, the better your chances may be of receiving at least one reservation. For each item you select, you can choose to bring up to one (1) guest.

StagePass – Hall D23: Provides reservations to the confirmed sessions at Hall D23 (Note: Hall D23 Preferred Seating ticket holders will not be able to make selections for Hall D23.)

StagePass: Provides reservations to the confirmed sessions at Premiere Stage, Backlot Stage, Walt Disney Archives Stage, and Hyperion Stage

TalentPass: Provides reservations for the confirmed talent photos and signings at Talent Central

Show Floor Experiences: Provides reservations for the confirmed talent signings, demonstrations, presentations, and giveaways happening in booths around the Show Floor

NOTES

If you are picking up your badges at will call, you can still participate in the Reservation RSP with your D23 member login associated with your badge.

Guests under the age of 16 are unable to make reservations but can still participate in reservation as the guest of an adult with an activated D23 Expo badge.

The most popular offerings will have a lot of interest, so consider signing up for some of the smaller events to increase your odds of getting a confirmed reservation.

Guests with Hall D23 Preferred Seating will not be able to make Hall D23 selections as your badge guarantees reserved seating for ALL presentations in Hall D23.

For guests who do not get reservations for their preferences, standby queues will be available for most panels and experiences.
All reservations are subject to change or cancellation without notice.

If you do not arrive by the time specified in your reservation confirmation email, your place will be filled by standby Guests.

If you are assigned a StagePass reservation, please check for the arrival time noted in your confirmation email. If you do not arrive on time, your place may be given away to a guest from the standby queue.

Just to confirm I'm understanding - if I'm a party of 2, I can theoretically make 8 individual reservations (4 each) because each would allow me to bring a Guest?

Way off. They allocate AT LEAST 50% of capacity to LL+. Oftentimes more. Even if 1/2 GotG is only 900/hour and open 11 hours a day, that’s $54 million per year. Between LL+ and Genie Plus, they’re taking in at least an extra $300-400 million per year at WDW alone.
