Creepy New Survey Question....

Personally, I am happy with Disney collecting and using my data in this way.

In terms of Disney making changes to the experience, whether it be making improvements or efficiency savings, it would be more alarming to think they were not basing those decisions on this type of data.

What the MagicBands give Disney is a fast, realtime and cheap way of getting a huge sample of Data all day everyday. However, none of the data is something they could not have got in another more time consuming way.

In all honesty it's not how much data you have, but what you do with it that counts!

As Spotted on twitter by an acquaintance.....

For anyone who wasn't thinking that the mouse isn't keeping track of you? What exactly did you think the magicband and the MDX account was doing?

Iam not shocked Disney has a file on me about my vacationing habits.

What I will be concerned about is if Disney is keeping tabs of my whereabouts and people using that knowledge to their advantage. For example if someone knows Iam in the parks and then my room gets robbed, while not likely of course it's really not out of the realm of impossibility. There are other scenarios that could be more tragic depending on the person or persons who have this information. Not everyone is a saint.

It's not being paranoid, it's being proactive before something could go wrong and this is something that should be discussed and analyzed.

What I find interesting is what is the exact definition of "Information we have on file" really mean? Your resort reservation? Your dining plan info? Your Fastpasses? Those are things that would be "on file" and that would make sense. Or does it really mean the small details some speak of like where we ate and what time we went back to our resort?

Not for nothing but if they really are collecting random data from our bands, or not so random data, why don't they just look at it and why are they asking for permission?
They've gone so far as to collect it or have it in holding in our MDE accounts and I'm not sure where in the fine print it says "to track your every move if need be" (do they somewhere disclose this to people?), so just look at it without asking politely.

At least they are asking permission??
Everyone here is being tracked with everything we do from grocery shopping to a beach trip. Every credit card and phone gps knows exactly where you are and what your doing. Let's not forget cameras on every corner and street. Unless we use cash and are basically off the grid, that's the world we live in. Its totally insane anymore.
I went to the doctors 3 weeks ago for a check up and they asked for my insurance card and drivers license. I said why do you need my license? They said they just want to make a copy and keep it in my records. I said no, I don't want that floating around in the cloud. I told them I'll show it to them to prove its me but that's it. She called a supervisor over and they were lost on how to proceed. They said," everyone hands it over, it's our policy". I said I'll find another doctor.
Sounds like I'm a conspiracy nut but every day someone is getting hacked so I try and not let all my info get out there.
As for Disney, I'm surprised it took this long.

You are all assuming the question refers to data collected from your on site stay. What if the fine print gives WDW your consent to access your non WDW data footprint?

Does anyone know the reach of the long range scanners? Would they know I left Disney property or does it only show that I'm within range of a certain reader? I always pay cash. I only use the band for entrance to the parks and room and for fastpasses. It might do them good to know many of us leave property for extended times now. Of course they wouldn't know we now spend days at uni. But, they would know we're leaving for longer and more often than even a year ago. I don't believe it's this sophisticated, yet.
I don't have a problem with it right now, but if I start feeling they are being too invasive, I'll simply slide a RFID blocking sleeve onto my band. The ones made for passports fit the bands.

Here is my question. Since so many people tout how MM+ (NexGen) and all the tracking helps Disney increase efficiency and save money to make our experience better....where or exactly when will we start to see this alleged better experience?

From what I can tell, things have only gotten more complicated, EVERYTHING costs more money, there are cutbacks in every area, and wait times are the same, if not longer than before for many rides that never needed FP+. So please, tell me why I should help them track me and add more data to my file if the benefits are solely for the company, not my experience?

I'm sure the bands can be scanned at the exits. It is more likely a count rather than a specific identifier. What I mean is that the system knows MB# 86487220ARGT8870 scanned in at the entrance that day, but it may only be able to tell that your MB is the 3,004th to leave that day without knowing your identifier.

#1, I've never really cared why Disney wants to track my data. I personally do not care what information they store from me. I have just always liked the idea of the MB for the basics like park entry, photo syncing, etc.

#2, Why does it matter to you why Disney wants this info? (Not being snarky. Just genuinely curious.) Even if they never do anything positive, or at least anything that will help you as a guest, why not allow Disney to collect data?

One of my friends refuses to allow his family to wear the MB at Disney. He makes them all leave them off their wrists and (No, I am not kidding here) wraps them all in tin foil until they are needed for FP or park entry. I know... stupid. But of course he also thinks the government is in tanks coming down the street for his guns (WAY too many for one person btw) and he thinks that the goverment is listening to us in our homes. Yes, all of us.... at the same time.

Why do people find it worrying? Annoying sure.. All they're gonna do is use it to push a load more advertising crap and use it for sales. You'll be nothing but a statistic. That's business. Lame, but don't be worried about it.

Then you're not terribly aware of the real world.

Every company keeps track of what you do related to their business interests. Disney is no exception and in fact have been doing so since long before MM+ came along. If you "wouldn't expect" it in this day and age, you're either incredibly naive or you're just trolling to rile up the other paranoids. There's nothing "creepy" about standard business practices.

I don't find it acceptable for companies to track those sort of information on me. Very big brother-ish.

My question was in regards to all the claims of the data collection being used to enhance our experience and increase efficiency. I have yet to see either, unless up charge events and themed pastries are the result of a billion dollar tracking system. I dont care if they track me, but I wont sit idly by while being told by some pixie duster that its all to enhance my trip.
