With the parks being closed for a long time, I wonder whether wildlife will start trying to take over, or if Disney will be paying some employees to try and keep the place semi-ready. Gators and snakes have been found when the park was operating so now that no people are around all the time to create noise to keep them out... why wouldn't critters start venturing into the parks.
I assume they will have security and some maintenance and cleaning crews. Even if all non-essential businesses are forced to close they would allow for basic security and upkeep to keep idiots who would try to sneak in safe.

But does Disney have a stash of TP to keep it going once the crowds come back? They probably have a secret warehouse for reserves.. Some guests steal hotel towels to take home hopefully not the TP.

From NPR: FDA Approves First Rapid COVID-19 Test

Rapid testing changed the game for HIV screening and preventing transmission. While it’s a stretch, I wonder how rapid testing could be used to screen people before flying or visiting high-density areas such as theme parks and arenas. It may be a pipe dream, but I think there’s some positivity to be celebrated this morning.

Have you ever experienced one of these "back of the nose" swab tests? Painful doesn't start to describe it. I've had the misfortune of having one never been so close to punching a nurse in all my life. Now imagine doing that to everyone going to an amusement park... you just made every kid cry and all these crying kids will have to wait in some holding area for 45 minutes... Or better yet what happens when you have a positive test from one of the people in the holding area? Do you now quarantine every one around them withing so many feet of where they are or what?

While in a perfect world everyone would be tested on arrival, the testing would need to be done in a less painful way and in some way that gave you much quicker results... how you could do that is beyond me.

Trust me. If they open only to Florida residents they/we will pack the parks. Every thing else is closed so Disney would be our saving grace.
No doubt. But how much will you be spending to get in? I get that renewals happen, but it won't be a big intake of cash up front when the open.

Good points. Things seem to be evolving quickly. While I believe skepticism is key, so is celebrating progress, appreciating the ones working to make progress, and pragmatically applying that progress to help heal the world.

I’m not qualified to make assumptions about these issues, but just wanted to share some relevant news.

A note on herd immunity. In order for it to work you need a large portion of the population to get sick. For a really contagious disease like the measles it’s close to 95% of the population to be covered. Since corona is less contagious the experts estimate 50% to 70% of the population would need have it before herd immunity would slow the disease. So with roughly 330 million Americans we would need roughly 200 million people to be infected before herd immunity would be effective. If even 10% of those required hospitalization that’s 20 million people and remember the average person in the hospital isn’t getting better as quickly as 10 to 14 days. Some are in much longer. How many hospital beds and ventilators do we have? If the mortality rate holds to around the current 1.3% thats 2.6 million deaths in the US. I think this is why many other countries that started down the herd immunity plan have changed plans.

I wonder how they are going to deal with bag check? That is somewhere that you can't help but violate any social distance norms.
To add, character meet and greets, 6 feet away from the other guest at Typhoon Lagoon? No more general admission concerts at House of Blues at Disney Springs? Crammed guests in Disney buses and tram rides from the parking lot to the park entrance..

When I say locals I mean people not needing to fly. I have friends in Tampa who have APs and they stay regularly at Disney hotels and eat in restaurants taking advantage of AP discounts. That’s how the resorts and restaurants will fill enough to cover fixed costs.

Monorails.. we can go on and on. In Disney it’s virtually impossible to maintain 6 feet. As I sai, oh about 500 posts ago 🙂with any restrictions in place.. with certain insiders saying that there won’t be any character meets.. with only take out, no dining in until at least may 7.. how can you operate at all? Now all these things could change of course, but they could always change for the worse also.
