Contemporary Tower Looks bad

One plus I like is the fact that's it a single building. None of this 5-6 buildings spread out over acres and acres. Looks like you'd be able to leave your room, cross over to the contemporary, and board a monorail without having to go outside (technically).

And yes, that it has access to the monorail.

I just hope you can access the floors from various points in the tower (Center and each end with elevators). One thing I always disliked about the boardwalk DVC is that lonnnnnggggggg walk from the lobby down the hallway to the room I alway seem to get at the very end, heh.

I'm not usually outspoken on these things before they open, but Disney's Watergate Resort is the worst thing to happen in Walt Disney World history since Journey Into Your Imagination.

Not only does it forever ruin the impressiveness of the hotel, It completely ruins several of my favorite views of the hotel from the monorail and the road.

It cheapens one of the best buildings at WDW, and creates a massive eyesore for the pre-devolped sightlines inside the Magic Kingdom.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...the wand didn't die...

it just moved.

It's amazing how much DVC there is, DVC is everywhere!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :dazzle:

Rather than trying to create more new themed hotels or using scrapped ideas like the Persian, Venetian, Asian, etc they just keep on tacking more DVC onto existing hotels or make a DVC hotel like Saratoga Springs (which hardly resembles anything from Saratoga Springs, NY :lookaroun)

Can you imagine if the 30 story something Cosmpolitan Tower were built at the original EPCOT....it would be 30 stories of DVC by now :drevil:

We just got back last week. It never even occured to me that people were displeased with the look of it. I thought it looked fine. I looks a heck of alot better then "Leave a Legacy" stones at Epcot.

The circular structure will look better when there is one on each side of the A frame. Think ahead, Disney does.

It would look something like this:
Contemprary.jpg

I like it!

Ummmm....No. They would tear down the South Garden Wing and build the second tower there, just like they did for the North Garden Wing. The new Tower is entirely on the Bay Lake side of the original tower. The convention center is entirely on the MK side of the original tower. Take a look at an aerial map.

Ah, you might have something there! True, if Disney were to frame the A-frame, then the entire collection of building might look pretty nice together.

Thats what I was thinking. If there was one on each side it would look a lot better.

I love the idea of another tower on the south side of the Contemporary Complex!!! Though it will be awhile...we still have a bit more time till construction is done on this one and AK, then they have to finish selling out AK and start selling the new Contemporary Tower before they start construction on the 3rd Contemporary building.

Ain't going to happen!

However, the South Garden wing rooms were just refurbished. It's going to be a while before there are even plans to construct another tower.

It would look nice, much better than what it does now... but I don't think it's going to happen.

Ding ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! Disney wouldn't have dropped as much cash into overhauling them if they had any thought that a third tower would go there. They would have just done a partial refurbishment, without all of the bell and whistles, like the nice lighting feature under the TV. Also, supposedly, the land isn't stable enough there to support a building of that size.

And yes, the convention center is ugly.

I, too, think it throws off the vibe of the A-frame Tower. We just have to wait and see what the finished product will look like in person.
BTW, does anyone have a visual of the tower from within the Magic Kingdom? If they do, I will be sad.:(

I almost hate to say it... But I'm going to be one of the first in line to buy into this thing.

I get the whole idea behind people who say it throws off the existing building... And I can't say I completely disagree.

But it's getting built. And there's nothing we can do about it.

And the thought of watching wishes (or whatever else they come up with) in my PJ's for the next 50 years is too good to pass up. :drevil:

DVC on the monorail. A stone's throw from my favorite park at WDW. It doesn't get much better.

LISTEN CAREFULLY,, FREEDOM OF SPEECH...I can disagree with YOUR honest opinion..IN my opinion, you're claiming to be SMARTER than Disney (architects, planners, etc). Disagreeing with my opinion makes you dumb?

UMMM OK:lookaroun

It doesnt bother me.This is coming from a guy who has been going to WDW since 1971 so I do have lots of memories of past Attractions etc.

I will make my judgement when it is 100% complete and not until then.

I tend to be an "Armchair Imagineer" but I will have faith that Disney knows what they are doing and hire only the best designers.

I think it will be really nice looking but then again,I am a Flunky who manages a Super Center Store.:hammer:

The recentness of the refurbishment to the South Wing is indeed a pretty compelling argument that they won't raze that for a new tower any time soon. I have to wonder, though, if there is a point at which the first tower DVC sales might make them change their minds. I mean, if they price the DVC rooms there through the roof but it still sells out in some very fast fashion (say, two weeks), surely they'd be at least considering starting quickly on a new tower.

i'm a dvc member, and i was totally in love with the idea! AT FIRST. the idea of having a dvc on the monorail is awesome!

but, the more i see it, in person and through pics, the more i don't like the look. weather or not you're in love with the contemporary as a hotel, it is classic wdw, and one of the most unique hotels in the world.

i think the new structure is just a bit too grand in scale. 5 or 6 stories shorter would have been great. even if it would have been more spread out (fatter) or even having and additional structure further north. i do, btw, prefer the look of having a twin on the other side.

i will reserve my final judgment until after it's completion. but, right now it just seems like overkill- like the 350 lb bodybuilder who's 5'3".....

It is going to be a new DVC property. So for 16k you could stay there for 3 to 4 days a year in a studio.

:ROFLOL: :sohappy:
(Don't forget the ridiculous cost of the annual fees!)

From the first time I saw the concept art, I really hated the look of the new tower because it seemed way too unbalanced to me. But that concept art only showed 1 new tower. I didn't realize they were building one on the other side as well. That will help a lot.

I don't like the new tower(s).

It is not disastrously ugly, but it does turn the area into the sort of line up of hotels that stretch all over Florida's coast.

Magic: zero.

Again, can we all please remember that having a different OPINION doesn't mean that one is right and the other wrong, so there is no need to start tossing words such as "dumb" "stupid" "idiotic" around.

Yes, that's true. But, you left out the fact that it's for 50 years that you'll have that available to you. So, if you divide 16K by 50 years, that's $320 per year. You can't stay at a moderate on special rates for less than that. And, this is at a deluxe resort with extra amenities! :D

There are a lot more factors that go into it (such as inflation and how it affects the cost of a hotel room into the future, yet DVC will not go up, etc), but that's a whole other discussion on a different thread ;)

I love the historical aspect of the resort and I'm not pleased that it's being altered this drastically. BUT, I am DYING for the thing to be open because I'm a DVC member and a monorail DVC hotel is what we've been waiting for! The closest we've gotten to MK is WLV (which we LOVE), but it's not as convenient to wait for a ferry boat at the back of the resort (especially when it's really cold out or raining) then to wait for a monorail to arrive inside the Contemporary. :D
