Contemporary Tower Looks bad

It is topics like this that make me want to bang my head on a wall. I fully understand freedom of speech, I am amazed how often people feel that they can second guess Disney Inc. (my name) and feel that they are the correct one 100% of the time.

I original concept for the Contemp was that the rooms would be able to be removed and replaced with "updated" ones. Of course the out of town designers did not grasp the concept that concrete expands, and after a couple of years in the Florida weather, gee, they scratched their heads as to why the rooms seemed "stuck" because they had expanded so much.

As for the new building next to the Contemp. Were you bothered when Disney Inc. built a convention center next to the hotel? That had to disturb the visuals somewhat.

Face it, it is Disney's property to do with it as they want, assuming that their plans are approved by the proper authorities. If you don't like it, don't stay there. If it really bothers you that "reality" is creeping into your enjoyment of TL, get over it. The mere fact that you have always been able to see the Contemp from several points in TL proves your "reality creep" point moot.

The photos showing another building to even out the building on the other side of the Contemp looks visually pleasing, but then Disney would have to tear down the convention center, which by the way has been a huge selling point since the day they opened it.

Mark and yes, I Used2BePluto.

Tomorrowland was designed with the Contemporary in mind. They purposely left that large area open so that the design of the hotel would continue the "boundary" of Tomorrowland visually beyond the borders of the park.

Ummmm....No. They would tear down the South Garden Wing and build the second tower there, just like they did for the North Garden Wing. The new Tower is entirely on the Bay Lake side of the original tower. The convention center is entirely on the MK side of the original tower. Take a look at an aerial map.

The picture of the new Contemporary Tower looks really stupid it looks like a line up of hotels or condos on Fort Lauderdale beach. It really makes me mad that they need to build something so big and take away the look of the Contemporary:mad:

Very upset thanks for listening!
Send Disney your Email address so they can send future architect plans for YOUR APPROVAL before they begin construction...circles and triangles certainly can't go together!

The circular structure will look better when there is one on each side of the A frame. Think ahead, Disney does.

However, the South Garden wing rooms were just refurbished. It's going to be a while before there are even plans to construct another tower.

It would look nice, much better than what it does now... but I don't think it's going to happen.

To keep in with the idea of the hotel, the design of the addition certainly is Contemporary, or at least Disney's idea of contemporary, leading architectural design to be.

The A-Frame will always be the focal point, as it is right on that monorail line.

Ah, you might have something there! True, if Disney were to frame the A-frame, then the entire collection of building might look pretty nice together.

The Poly is designed and built the same way...

The way I heard it, the ground settled more than they expected it to, almost immediately, not over years, and this made them "stuck". I also heard that the original north and south wings were constructed from left over room units.

I love the idea of another tower on the south side of the Contemporary Complex!!! Though it will be awhile...we still have a bit more time till construction is done on this one and AK, then they have to finish selling out AK and start selling the new Contemporary Tower before they start construction on the 3rd Contemporary building.

What a dumb comment. This is just a discussion and my honest opinion. You don't have to agree with it, but in my opinion it looks bad. It's overcrowded looking now and of course, after visiting WDW for the past 36 years, I prefer "less" over "more" and think they could have done a better job architecturally.

The bay lake hotels always looked so grand across the lake from one another and now it looks like hotel-row. Yuck.

Exactly, we are on here to discuss things to do with the Disney, not Disney's right to build things (although we could, but this isn't the point of this thread). These forums are here to praise, moan and the like. If everyone took the stance of "well Disney can do what they like it's there land, you can't complain" we would have nothing to talk about.

Anyway back on topic...

At the moment for me, it doesn't look right, but i'll reserve full judgement for when it's complete. I always thought the Contempory had a retro quality to it, you know like that kind of retro-futuristic style like in the film version of A Clockwork Orange (of course minus the crime and violence :p).

It's not finished yet, shouldn't we reserve judgement at least until the curtain wall is finished and you get a sense of the exterior materials and finish? Though I will say, the scale of it next to the existing tower is, um, strange. But I'll still wait until it's finished and being used. It could be a good building, it could be a bad building, it almost certainly won't be great or terrible.

*gets off my architecture pulpit*

LISTEN CAREFULLY,, FREEDOM OF SPEECH...I can disagree with YOUR honest opinion..IN my opinion, you're claiming to be SMARTER than Disney (architects, planners, etc). Disagreeing with my opinion makes you dumb?
