Mini lands?
lol...I believe that would also make Pirates of the Caribbean a mini-land, since it has a ride, shop, and soon-to-be interactive queue.

A bit of a stretch. At best, the FLE has two mini-lands in total--Storybook Circus and Enchanted Forest. Unless we want to use the early 2000s DCA attitude where one attraction IS enough to constitute a land/mini-land. We see how well that worked out West.

Caribbean Plaza is a mini-land in my mind, as are Serka Zong and Anandapur

I believe you will agree when you visit the first time. These are like lands within a land. They are doing the same thing at DL for the princesses. PH also qualifies as a mini-land IMO. It seems to be a new trend in theme park design by WDI.

Perhaps you should visit them first, before categorizing them to your convenience......

An expansion to Hollywood Studios is GREATLY needed, since there isn't much to do right now.... you run out of things to do there! Here are the areas that could be a site of addition to DHS:

What could they do here? I mean, there is absolutely no room in the Hollywood Studios Park to expand! They wasted land when building it, and then boxed themselves in with roads. Not smart, Disney, not smart... The only way they could use the land outside of the parking lot, would be to make some sort of crossover, to block out the view of the road.... It's so hard to believe they could do that, though...
The large area you show to the east and south of DHS is classified category 1 wetland and cannot be developed. It is essential for drainage and is habitat for protected species. Disney really has boxed themselves in and there is no expansion land available for DHS. A poor choice by the Eisner generation of the company.

what about the land to the West? Across World Drive approaching Blizzard Beach and Coronado Springs?

Obviously you'd need big bridges to get across there (like Roger Rabbit at Toontown at DL?), but what is that land catagorised as?

They can develop that land if they so desire. They only need to replace it with similar category 1 wetland property elsewhere. They've done it before and they'll do it again if needed.

To wit: "In the early 1990s, The Walt Disney Co. purchased and donated 8,500 acres to the Conservancy to offset lands impacted by the development of Walt Disney World. The Disney Co. also provided funds for restoration and wildlife monitoring, and continues to partner a number of on-site projects."

I believe you are right--they could build to the west of World Drive but getting people there would be the issue. Slightly more out-of-the-box would be to build a new parking garage to the west of World Drive and transport people over to the Studios. Then the current parking lot could be used to nearly double the size of the park. Of course, this would require a redesign of the park and movement of the park entrance.

That's what I'm trying to think about!

If they didn't want to build parking garages (although they may be building their first at DTD), could they combine Blizzard Beach's parking lot with DHS's? (from BB's south to Osceola Parkway and then some sort of transport to get you from there to the current front of the park [DHS busses could still drop off somewhere in the current DHS parking lot])

Then build current backstage buildings inside of DHS, build on the current DHS parking lot (apart from where the Disney busses drop off) and build north of the new parking lot (across World Drive and up towards Buena Vista Drive). That would get you a massive park (it would possibly be bigger than DAK).

However, no way is that going to happen!

They need to make the already constructed areas of Hollywood Studios work before they expand.

I agree with you there, and was posting about that here earlier today (saying that implementing a land/studio structure and changing the theme of a couple of the restaurants would be a good start), but I was just wondering what land was available for future expansion if they eventually outgrew their current boundary!

The production areas and backlot areas of the park offer all the expansion space this park would ever ever need. There is no need to fret over this.

If they ever moved into the streets of NY section too.. they could virtually double the size of the park.

I think there would be enough room if they removed BatB theater which may be plausible given they have dedicated an entire area for the franchise at the MK. This would also allow for it to connect to Sunset.

Maybe somebody could photoshop Disneylands ToonTown onto this spot so we could get a better idea of the space required.

Here's a general idea of how it would fit. (I pasted the area of Toontown into DHS. It fits perfectly, if BatB is removed...

I would be happy for DHS to remove the production areas and backlot areas (although I would miss Catastrophe Canyon - maybe they could repurpose it?).

I would be fine for them to do something with the Streets of America as well - it's nice theming to walk down, but it would be better if they could take that theming and add attractions to it (although I can't think what they could add that would go with the theme - the only ideas that I already had that could fit into the Streets of America theme would be a 3D Cinema that would show Captain EO, Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Magic Journeys and an Old Fashioned themed Music Store that sold park music, movie soundtracks, American Idol and Disney Records CDs). It would also be good if they could use the Premier Theater for something year round (although there are people on here who think that DHS have already got too many shows), or maybe they could remove it and use the space for something else.

Fine, I'll be the one that says it.

Catastrophe Canyon = Lame
Studio Backlot Tour = Lamer
Lights, Motors, Action = Lamest

The whole back end of the park is useless to me. This is coming from someone that LOVED the Studios in the 90's. Hurts me to see what it has become.

There seems to be plenty of room to expand DHS w/o using the surrounding wetlands. There are a few backstage facilities that could be moved.

LMA (including the practice area), BLT (including Tram maintenance, loading area, Catastrophe Canyon, etc) and some backstage bungalows appear to take up close to 20% of the park area. That could possibly be room for 5 or more new attractions.

Also, my understanding is that the space between the Animation building and RnR Coaster was intended for expansion - a great place for a Toon Town with access from Sunset and the Animation Courtyard.

Further, I believe the area behind Star Tours was meant for expansion.

But, as mentioned, the priority should be adopting a cohesive theme for the park. Then building out from there.
