Construction walls along the entrance way coming into fantasmic

For what it is worth this is where the David Copperfield Magic Underground restaurant was supposed to go. Would have had both in park and out of park entrances much like Rainforest at DAK.
Indeed. And so no room for anything elaborate, let alone a whole mini land. JT, if you want your Toontown add it east of Sunset where Movieland and RRHW was going to go before Eisner got cold feet.

Tidbit; Fant! Was originally planned to allow all shows to exit out of the park via proper routes. Ops and Merch argued about the lost revenue so the plan was ditched. Now when it happens guests see unthemed backstage areas.

I would have thought the sensible place for a Toontown would be for it to be connected to Animation Courtyard, which I guess could be possible to access that area (are you talking about the area where the Sunset food court is, and the area either side of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (between Animation Building and Highland Avenue, Highland Avenue and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Theater of the Stars Drive/Cypress Drive - beside ToT))?

The problem with Google Maps and DHS is that there are so many buildings in DHS not used that I can't tell what is in the park and what is backstage!

What does RRHW stand for and what attractions were going to go into movieland?

Back in the day the 2nd Fantasmic would dump onto Sunset eventually they determined that the merch revenue wasnt worth keeping the shops open. It still dumped on Sunset but everything was closed. Eventually they started funneling everyone backstage to further cut back on the ops CMs needed to shuffle everyone out. Are the Hollywood Blvd shops open at least?

The space isnt really big enough for a full land, but I do think that before Fantasmic was plopped in there it was supposed to be ToonTown. Id love for there to be a family dark ride put in there. The Studios needs it.

It's not back in the day - it depends on guest flow situations. On busier show nights they will exit guests both ways, but if it's a 2nd show with a few sections open, it's much easier to clear the venue if they only send them one way. I saw the show a few nights ago and we walked down from the entrance path down Sunset Blvd. and the shops on the right were open and the shops on the left side of Hollywood Blvd were open, essentially the nice bakery and NBC stuff of Sunset and the knick nacks on Hollywood, pleasing multiple markets.

I think there would be enough room if they removed BatB theater which may be plausible given they have dedicated an entire area for the franchise at the MK. This would also allow for it to connect to Sunset.

Maybe somebody could photoshop Disneylands ToonTown onto this spot so we could get a better idea of the space required.

BatB is not going anywhere. It's one of the most popular shows. Even if they replaced the show, that stage is staying with something, but not shops.BatB is huge to Disney, they are building a restaurant after it, does anyone really think they would get rid of the show? Let's just hope whatever they are doing over there is something productive for us consumers.

The popularity of both BatB and LM at DHS were likely key factors in the decision to build mini-lands at the MK for these franchises. Judging by the detail of these new areas and how it will make the versions at DHS look tired, faded and below standards, I think it is possible both shows at DHS will be reimagined into something new and fresh. The actors do a great job but no show lasts forever and I think a refresh is in order. JMHO.

There have been a lot of permits for the theatre recently, so it's not going anwhere anytime soon. I could see them changing the show, but not removing the theatre.

As we are often reminded these things are always subject to change. Perhaps the theater could be given a "toon" makeover. :D

I could see a new show, just not replacing the area with toontown and shops. It's DHS, there are supposed to be shows, whether it's BatB or tangled, it just needs to be a show. I guess the problem is that DHS has a problem with what they want to be.

An expansion to Hollywood Studios is GREATLY needed, since there isn't much to do right now.... you run out of things to do there! Here are the areas that could be a site of addition to DHS:

What could they do here? I mean, there is absolutely no room in the Hollywood Studios Park to expand! They wasted land when building it, and then boxed themselves in with roads. Not smart, Disney, not smart... The only way they could use the land outside of the parking lot, would be to make some sort of crossover, to block out the view of the road.... It's so hard to believe they could do that, though...

Just because the land is empty doesn't mean they are able to build on it.

To be clear: One of the expansion pads IS in the parking lot.

AMEN! That is the problem completely...DHS needs to have a true identity.

I would guess that there will be various backstage buildings in the park that could possibly be removed/relocated and built on as well - it's difficult on Google Maps to decide what's "on stage" and what's "backstage"!
