Clear Skies, Full Bellies...Can't Lose! A September 2012 Trip Report

Well…since it’s now been 1 month since I’ve been in Disney and I have received my Disney Photopass – I don’t have any more excuses to not start this trip report. So…let’s get this show on the road.

For those of you who don’t know me…I’m Jess.

P1030167_zps7f11183f.jpg

Here’s my stats:
Number of Trips – this is trip #8
Favorite Park – EPCOT
Favorite Ride – Spaceship Earth
Favorite Disney snack item – Mickeys Cookies n Cream Ice Cream Sandwich
Favorite Disney Character – Ursula the Sea Witch

And traveling with me is my fiancé, Bill.

P1030435_zps451ea205.jpg

His stats:
Number of Trips - this is his 6th
Favorite Park – Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride – The Haunted Mansion
Favorite Disney snack item – Red velvet cream cheese cupcake from Starring Rolls
Favorite Disney Character – Winnie the Pooh

This is our 5th trip together – once a year since we started dating. And on our last trip in May 2011…THIS happened…

P1020480.jpg

Well I guess it’s not really a surprise since I already called him my fiancé and wrote a whole trip report on it.Here’s the link if you want THAT whole story…

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...s-and-a-proposal-may-2011-trip-report.796403/

But to cut to the chase: He proposed at night by the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth.

P1020479.jpg

I cried. It was absolutely perfect. And I’ve yet to read any other stories of people getting proposed to in front of SSE…which makes it even more magical. (And if you know of one – keep it to yourself. Hahaha!)

This trip was born not long after our trip in May. My fiancé is in med school and his school works with 11 months of rotations and 1 month off. Bill’s month off was September. So we decided to go then and too go for our longest trip ever (8 days!) and to bump up resort levels after staying at POP Century for 4 trips. So this trip we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We chose it for the intimate size of the resort, the fact that it had a sister resort we could utilize and neither of us had stayed there before. Spoiler alert – we absolutely fell in love with the resort ! But we also bumped up an extra day because - this will be OUR (notice – not MY) last trip until 2014. We have a wedding date set for October 12, 2013…and we are NOT doing a Disneymoon.

I know…we’re crazy. But we’ve been there together so many times already and plan to go so many times after the wedding that we wanted a honeymoon that is unique and special. Plus – my Disney trips are anything but relaxing. And I want a honeymoon that is basically – sleeping, drinking, eating, and…other stuff that I wouldn’t talk about on a family site but you get my drift. Pure relaxation. And at Disney – I’m sun up to sun down kinda girl. Plus I’m going with my mom and sister in March 2013 and probably for a few days in September before or after my WDWMAGIC GIRLS CRUISE! Check out all the info on this awesome cruise happening with some fantastic ladies of wdwmagic!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...agic-girls-cruise.816925/page-46#post-5173681

Ok. Enough with the explanations and shameless plugs for girl cruises (which again is September 8th – 12th 2013…plenty of girls still looking for roomies!) Let’s get on with the show!!!

September 11th, 2012

Work all day – blah. But at night…my sister, mom and I were going to see Jersey Boys in Pittsburgh. Every year on my sister and my birthdays…we buy each other tickets to see whatever musicals are playing in Pittsburgh. This year nothing great fell ON my birthday (October 15th) but Jersey Boys was playing mid September and I had never seen it.

330x235

I loved the show and was totally worth the 12:30AM bedtime that followed the show.

September 12th, 2012

Boy…2:45 AM comes really quickly when you pour yourself into bed at 12:30. We were up and moving (albeit quite slowly) finishing packing and such. Bill’s friend from med school came to pick us up and take us to the airport. We were flying out of the Pittsburgh airport but flying into the Latrobe airport because Latrobe is about 15 minutes from our house. But they had no outbound flights on this day. ANYWAY…we fly through security – grab a bagel & pumpkin spice latte to split and we’re on the plane at 6:05 AM. Touchdown in Orlando at 8:10am. Then I saw this and squealed like a school girl…

P1030043_zpsaf461bff.jpg

WOO HOO WE’RE HERE. Well almost. We head through DME and we were on a bus at 8:45 ready to head to our home for the next 8 days…

Once we got back - we decided to go swimming! We rarely swim at resorts because I'm all "GO GO GO" but since we are paying more to stay here...we should play more! So we went swimming, tried the slide and ended up in the hot tub. (I've read that sentence over and over and it still sounds dirty. I promise it wasn't meant to be!) No pictures as my camera is not waterproof.

After showers and freshening up we heading to MK.

***First we headed down to the food court to see if they had half n half for sale because Bill hates the creamer they had. And we had an accident. Just remember this for future reference and I'll explain later***

P1030324_zps66825424.jpg

NOT YET...but soon.

We were hitting the monorail to "Go explore the resort more and maybe grab a lapu lapu and then try something at Captain Cooks for dinner" but really we had Ohana ADRs for 6:50! Bill absolutely loves Ohana. I think it's the sauces that put him over the edge. Now I like Ohana don't get me wrong...but I don't LOVE it. And I can't really eat that much so I feel like a lot is wasted on me. So the plan was to actually go explore the Poly more and hang out...relax and eventually lure him upstairs.

But first we had to get on...THE AVENGERS MONORAIL.
P1030325_zps198df4d8.jpg

Bill really likes Iron Man...like wanted to go as Iron Man for Halloween. And I said no what will I go as and he said I could be Iron Man and he'd be Tony Stark in street clothes. I told him no one would know who he was.

Into the POLY!

We decided to go lay in the hammocks

P1030339_zps2b92cc3c.jpg

P1030340_zps84941a7a.jpg

Right now...it's about 6:00. So I need to buy some time. So Bill's like "what's next?" and I say "oh let's just relax here. It's so nice here. Do you think this will be the first deluxe we'll stay at?" And was just stalling.

P1030341_zps44bdd0e7.jpg

P1030342_zps95bce705.jpg

Ok by now Bill is like "I'm going to fall asleep if we stay here...let's go look at more stuff" Okie doke...so we head into the gift shop upstairs to see if they have Vinylmation Trading...they do! So we traded Maestro Mickey for...
P1030345_zps8ebb4190.jpg

Nerdy Goofy! AW I just thought he was precious.

So we continue to walk around downstairs and blah blah blah...it's about 6:40. Ok I can't stall any longer. So I say "Let's go get a Lapu Lapu from Tambu Lounge upstairs." Ok... So we are walking up the stairs and I say "I think the reason that I didn't love Ohana as much was because it was the end of our trip and my stomach was so full from eating big meals all week that I couldn't handle it...we needed to have it as one of the first meals of the trip." He's says "Yeah you're right" and I say "Like tonight!" And pull him over to the check in desk and say "I have a reservation for 2 at 6:50!" He was a deer in headlights. YES BABE - OHANA ADR!

He had been complaining for about...2 months about how he wanted Ohana and it was his vacation too and it wasn't fair that he only got 2 ADRs and why not Ohana it was the best and blah blah blah (meanwhile I had already booked it 190 days out) and I kept saying "Babe I want to try some new places - maybe next time." So he was sooo surprised. And then goes "oh I wish you'd told me so i didn't eat that big lunch!" Thanks sweetie. Anyway...we were waiting for about 10 minutes when a server from Tambu comes over to ask if we want something to drink while we wait. Lapu now or later? Now works! So we "split" a Lapu Lapu (70-30...me!). So I'm chugging along on this Lapu and we finish it and then get seated.

P1030346_zps3737d5df.jpg

And THIS IS OUR VIEW

P1030347_zpsbacd3b6c.jpg

MK VIEW WHAAAAAAAAAT? Yes sir and we didn't even have to ask. I was so excited/kind of buzzed.

So they explain the whole deal and take drink orders...I'll have a coke aaaaand a Lapu Lapu. Bill - "Another one?" Yeah I figured we'll split it so it will be like I only had 1 or so. I figured incorrectly.

First - Bread (never did get butter...)
P1030348_zps0d9d25b0.jpg

Salad
P1030349_zps247764d0.jpg

Appetizers - Pork Dumplings and Chicken Wings (I LOVE both of these things. More than the rest of it. This is my main meal right here)
P1030350_zps0486af02.jpg

Noodles & Broccoli (both good but take up too much valuable belly space)
P1030351_zpsdf7b0e34.jpg

My Lapu Lapu (yes I say MY because Bill drank NONE of it)
P1030352_zps63d8dec1.jpg

P1030353_zps2d5d3b7f.jpg

Mmmm this is delicious. But really strong. I can't really sip it...so I'll chug it instead to get it down. I'm not wasting 13 dollars! (big mistake...big. huge.)

Really yummy bananas fosters bread pudding
P1030355_zps9c5374a4.jpg

Ok...just between us...I was pretty drunk. It does not take much for me to get tipsy and I was a bit between pretty buzzed and flat out drunk. And 2 Lapu Lapus will certainly blur that line (among my vision). So I was feeling happy. And thought "Lets go to the Grand Floridian...Wishes is at 9 that's in 45 minutes!" No...Wishes was not at 9...it was at 10. Anyway...off to the GF.

P1030359_zpsc2ba8e9b.jpg

We decide to walk around. I have the bright idea of going to find the wedding chapel. NO we did not get married. But I wanted to snap some pics of the building to at least say I've been there.

P1030361_zpsbda71180.jpg

We find that little archway with the castle in the middle and think that will be a fantastic place to watch Wishes (that in reality doesn't start for an hour and a half). A stranger waltzes by this his fancy shmancy camera and offers to take our picture. I get this.
P1030366_zps5ab50868.jpg

Now I was drunk but I knew it was bad. You can work your fancy camera with your settings and flashes and add ons and can't get a good one on my point n shoot?

So we're sitting on the ground...then we walk over to the dock. We are talking about our wedding and stuff. And then I see boats in the water. OH MY GOD BILL THE ELECTRIC WATER PAGEANT! I'm screaming. I had never seen it and Bill didn't even know what it was. I'm pretty sure I talked through the whole thing about how excited I was. Keep in mind that camera dbag had gone and it was just us 2. Not another soul in the area.

P1030369_zpsa06130b6.jpg

P1030372_zps0b5c6b62.jpg

P1030373_zpsd44a1ff8.jpg

P1030377_zps3d6008c9.jpg

P1030379_zps2d0a671c.jpg

IM SO EXCITED I MAY PEE MY PANTS. Oh wait...I really have to pee. And we still have 15 (read: an hour and 15) minutes until Wishes! What am I going to do?! So we contemplate going back into the resort and stuff. But I say WAIT...let's try the wedding pavilion. AND BOOM...IT'S OPEN. We looked around and saw no people...but saw bathrooms. So we used 'em. And then I was looking at this...and longing to see behind it.

There were NO PEOPLE AROUND. We had been in the pavilion for about 5 minutes. I kept peeking through the peephole at the dark but visible chapel inside. I wonder if it's locked? Bill says - Of course it is. Let's get out of here people will think we're trespassing! Well my mind said "listen to Bill" but the alcohol said "You will not be back here for many years"...so I tug at the door...

P1030382_zpsae5b43cd.jpg

ITS OPEN. OH MY GOD ITS F'ING OPEN. I'm like squealing at this point then remembering I don't want to be found...so I snap a billion pics with my flash/without the flash. Walking down the aisle taking pics with every step.

Bill is standing at the back of the Chapel saying "hurry up let's go before someone comes" and I confidently say "BILL. The doors were open. We didn't break in. We're just taking pictures. Worst thing is someone comes in and tells us to leave. But these pictures are crappy...I wish we could turn the lights on"

And then I see the light controls. Seems easy enough...push a button and they come on. So...I do.
And they come on like...in the movies when they flip the light on to a large storage space and the lights come on in a row and make a noise with each light that comes on? YUP THATS THE WEDDING PAVILION LIGHTS. I didn't even care. Bill is like "OH MY GOD they know we're here now" But I was just snapping away.

P1030390_zps82bf1563.jpg

So. Beautiful.
P1030392_zps8ce08056.jpg

BILL COME ON...LETS TAKE A PICTURE TOGETHER!
P1030393_zpsa1b4b828.jpg

Okie doke. Let's get out of here before we get in trouble...shuts off lights and leaves...THEN I say WAIT I wanna get a picture with my phone so I can put it on Instagram! I'll be real quick! So I run back in...TURN BACK ON THE LIGHTS and snap one with my phone.

I was astonished that it was open. And unattended. I mean...we saw NO more humans besides dbag camera man until we got back into the GF main building. I kept saying "Is that always open?" OMG I can't believe it was open.

So to be 100% clear...I did not break into the wedding pavilion. All doors/gates were open. I simply turned on the lights for better photos but did NOT break into the building. Just a wandering tourist.

Oh yes at this time Bill looked on his phone and saw Wishes wasn't happening until 10. It was about 9:10. So we decided to bail and head home. I was going to silly drunk to tired drunk.

P1030394_zps7bdbf5fe.jpg

I show you this next picture for 2 reasons.
#1 So you can see that I was indeed intoxicated but still really excited for what I had just seen
and #2...that accident I said happened earlier...it was my iPhone. Fell flat on it's face in the food court at POFQ.
P1030396_zps5b4298f9.jpg

Screen is shattered but the LCD screen was still functioning just fine. So Bill (being the gentleman that he is) took this screen protector off of his phone and put it on mine. It was held there by 2 hair ties. And the phone still worked. I could still post my Disney Wedding Chapel picture to Instagram and FB. All was not lost.

P1030397_zps534c8056.jpg

Happily and drunkenly heading to bed.

Monorail to MK bus to POFQ to bed. Goodnight all.

Up next: Slaying the Magic Kingdom is less than 1 day.

Aww, I want to explore the Poly again. I had an ADR for breakfast at Kona but ended up cancelling it because I knew Brandon and I couldn't wake up that early. Well, there's always next time...Oh and I think I'm adding a Lapu Lapu on my "must-try" list for the next visit.

OMG that Wedding Pavilion story was nothing short of hilarious!

This trip report is so good, can't wait to read more!

Your drunken shenanigans in the wedding pavilion made me laugh so hard:D.

I really didn't mean to get that tipsy but the Lapu Lapus were so strong. Thanks for reading!

Love it!!!! Those Lapu Lapu's sure do sneak up on ya!!! They really pulled a fast one on me during one of our trips. I had two with dinner, finished eating, and headed to the monorail... got on, headed to... wait, wait we were staying at the POLYNESIAN!!!! LOL

HAHAHA I love that story! You should have just been like YEP I just wanted to ride the monorail - I totally knew we were staying at the Poly. Haha.

I really like Kona Cafe for dinner - never had breakfast there...it's on my "to do" list. I'd definitely add the Lapu Lapu...it's good but strong! Thanks for reading!

But definately put Kona on your list for breakfast. Also, I LOVE how you went to the wedding pavillion and turned the lights on!! That is SO me!!!!

Man that has got to be the best laugh I've gotten from a TR in a long time. Hilarious and amazing that the Wedding Pavilion is just open like that. I think I see a plan in the works for my next trip because I've always wanted to see the inside.

EDIT: BTW same thing happened to my iPhone but in my work parking lot. Let me just say... spend $10 on a replacement screen on eBay and do it yourself (don't pay someone $200 to do it). Seriously it was SO easy! LOL!

OMFG! The wedding pavillion story is stinkin' hillarious!!! I love it!!! I'm so glad you're a lightweight, too. We'll have to lean on each other if we find ourselves "surprised" by our drinky-drinks during the cruise. Oh wait! What if we can't find our room??? I have the worst sense of direction! LOL!

I'm with you. I like Ohana but I don't think it's the end-all be-all that others freak out about. Then again, I feel like that about most of the WDW restaurants. :D

That death-by-cheeseburger Bill ordered at POR looked gooooood. May just be me, tho. I'm craving cheeseburgers for some reason. LOL!

Can't wait to read more! I have a feeling me & you are gonna be a force to be reckoned with come next September! Woot!

I'm laughing my head of here. Between @sweetpee_1993's Cruise TR with all the tipsy drinks and this Poly episode, I'm thinking WDWMagic-ers should have their own Disney reality show. There's probably always someone from the site there, give or take, so we could just film all our adventures. Jersey Shore Disney, breaking into pavilions and eating WAY TOO MUCH.

I'd watch it.

I've been to Kona dinner twice - the first time was amazing the second was just so-so. So we skipped it our last trip. I could see it resurfacing into the dining rotation though. Breakfast is definitely up high on our list.

I don't know if it is always open or if it was a fluke. But I had very little concern as I turned on the lights - how else could I see everything? Haha!

Yeah Bill ordered a new screen from China while we were on the trip...I think it was like 5 bucks with shipping. He took it off and fixed it for me, my hero! Haha. It was way easy and cheap. Thats what she said.

I would LOVE that idea. The Real 'Walt Disney' World. I'd def watch that. I would not want my tipsy moments caught on film though...thats the one thing I think when I watch something like Jersey Shore - "like...you know we can see you right? You're OK with the world seeing you not know the name of the man who you're going home with?"

I swear I didn't break in! Hahaha! It was open! Turning the lights on to get better pictures is NOT breaking & entering. Blame the Lapu x2.

Um, yeah! I don't get this at all. At less than half the age I am now and about half my current weight I could drink 3x's what I can now and still be just ducky. It has no logic whatsoever. I totally hear ya. The Lapu Lapu's totally pack a wallop. The last time I had one I ended up ordering a half-glass of juice to "water" it down with so I could actually swallow the liquid without feeling the kick-in-the-face after. Ya know? Ugh!

And we're so doing Mixology...'specially if you can manage to whoops us onto the bridge or something... LOL!
