Clear Skies, Full Bellies...Can't Lose! A September 2012 Trip Report

Well…since it’s now been 1 month since I’ve been in Disney and I have received my Disney Photopass – I don’t have any more excuses to not start this trip report. So…let’s get this show on the road.

For those of you who don’t know me…I’m Jess.

P1030167_zps7f11183f.jpg

Here’s my stats:
Number of Trips – this is trip #8
Favorite Park – EPCOT
Favorite Ride – Spaceship Earth
Favorite Disney snack item – Mickeys Cookies n Cream Ice Cream Sandwich
Favorite Disney Character – Ursula the Sea Witch

And traveling with me is my fiancé, Bill.

His stats:
Number of Trips - this is his 6th
Favorite Park – Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride – The Haunted Mansion
Favorite Disney snack item – Red velvet cream cheese cupcake from Starring Rolls
Favorite Disney Character – Winnie the Pooh

This is our 5th trip together – once a year since we started dating. And on our last trip in May 2011…THIS happened…

P1020480.jpg

Well I guess it’s not really a surprise since I already called him my fiancé and wrote a whole trip report on it.Here’s the link if you want THAT whole story…

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...s-and-a-proposal-may-2011-trip-report.796403/

But to cut to the chase: He proposed at night by the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth.

P1020479.jpg

I cried. It was absolutely perfect. And I’ve yet to read any other stories of people getting proposed to in front of SSE…which makes it even more magical. (And if you know of one – keep it to yourself. Hahaha!)

This trip was born not long after our trip in May. My fiancé is in med school and his school works with 11 months of rotations and 1 month off. Bill’s month off was September. So we decided to go then and too go for our longest trip ever (8 days!) and to bump up resort levels after staying at POP Century for 4 trips. So this trip we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We chose it for the intimate size of the resort, the fact that it had a sister resort we could utilize and neither of us had stayed there before. Spoiler alert – we absolutely fell in love with the resort ! But we also bumped up an extra day because - this will be OUR (notice – not MY) last trip until 2014. We have a wedding date set for October 12, 2013…and we are NOT doing a Disneymoon.

I know…we’re crazy. But we’ve been there together so many times already and plan to go so many times after the wedding that we wanted a honeymoon that is unique and special. Plus – my Disney trips are anything but relaxing. And I want a honeymoon that is basically – sleeping, drinking, eating, and…other stuff that I wouldn’t talk about on a family site but you get my drift. Pure relaxation. And at Disney – I’m sun up to sun down kinda girl. Plus I’m going with my mom and sister in March 2013 and probably for a few days in September before or after my WDWMAGIC GIRLS CRUISE! Check out all the info on this awesome cruise happening with some fantastic ladies of wdwmagic!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...agic-girls-cruise.816925/page-46#post-5173681

Ok. Enough with the explanations and shameless plugs for girl cruises (which again is September 8th – 12th 2013…plenty of girls still looking for roomies!) Let’s get on with the show!!!

September 11th, 2012

Work all day – blah. But at night…my sister, mom and I were going to see Jersey Boys in Pittsburgh. Every year on my sister and my birthdays…we buy each other tickets to see whatever musicals are playing in Pittsburgh. This year nothing great fell ON my birthday (October 15th) but Jersey Boys was playing mid September and I had never seen it.

330x235

I loved the show and was totally worth the 12:30AM bedtime that followed the show.

September 12th, 2012

Boy…2:45 AM comes really quickly when you pour yourself into bed at 12:30. We were up and moving (albeit quite slowly) finishing packing and such. Bill’s friend from med school came to pick us up and take us to the airport. We were flying out of the Pittsburgh airport but flying into the Latrobe airport because Latrobe is about 15 minutes from our house. But they had no outbound flights on this day. ANYWAY…we fly through security – grab a bagel & pumpkin spice latte to split and we’re on the plane at 6:05 AM. Touchdown in Orlando at 8:10am. Then I saw this and squealed like a school girl…

P1030043_zpsaf461bff.jpg

WOO HOO WE’RE HERE. Well almost. We head through DME and we were on a bus at 8:45 ready to head to our home for the next 8 days…

loving the trip report jess! and your pictures of sse are beautiful! i agree. you can never have too many pictures of sse. it is gorgeous. and i can understand how getting engaged in front of sse would make you love the sight of that geodesic sphere even more! :D i'm glad you liked pofq. i just stayed there in february and i really liked the resort. and i agree...those alligators are a little creepy looking. but other than a little bit of creepiness, it was a great resort. i can't wait to read more!

oh and that giant green guy in the food court does look like jambi from pee wee's playhouse! i loved pee wee's playhouse!! great show.

You had me at the Friday Night Lights reference in your title (best...show...ever). Great report! Can't wait to read the rest. No, you CAN NOT have too many SSE pictures. Anyone who says you have too many is obviously a communist. And yes, Mouse Gear is the best store in all of Disney. Didn't they have some amazing Epcot merch in September?? ( we were there 9/16-9/22). And I have to ALSO agree with your comments about the Villains vs. The Princesses. I think Disney is missing a cash cow by not offering a Villains dining experience.

One of my favorite things is seeing EPCOT early in the morning. LOVE. IT. :D Also I like walking around MouseGear and Art of Disney when no one else is really in there, I think it's because it doesn't feel as hectic for some reason. I liked the pics of you two in front of the fountain...great spot (obviously!) Definitely laughed at your comment about the floors not being sticky in Club Cool. So true.

And yes, you can never have such a thing as too many shots of SSE.

How awesome are you???? Clearly you are as awesome as they come because you love SSE as much as me!!!!! I like the castle and other park Icons but give me SSe over any of those, and a girl can never have enough pics of it.So many options so little time!

I am so glad that people are loving the Spaceship Earth pics - because there are MANY more to come, trust me. I'd say my icon pictures are about 60% SSE, 30% Castle, 7% Hat and 3% Tree of Life. Haha!

Please don't ground me!! I need to be able to use the laptop to catch up on all these trip reports!!! :)

Glad you liked it!! Ashley and I split on when we went. As much as I'd love to indulge in a whole one by myself, my thighs think otherwise. Plus it's really rich like you said. So good though. I LOVE that frosting! :)

Love the TR so far. I only read half of it so I'm sure I'll post another comment in a few minutes after I read the rest. Glad you liked Garden Grill. I don't know why but I love that you can see into that farmhouse that's part of the Land ride. Disney does it right, even detailing the little bedroom.

Those beignets look AMAZING!!! Definitely going to have to get over to POFQ to get me some!!

Aaaand I love how you are shamelessly plugging our ladies cruise here. I can't wait! We're going to have such a blast!!!

What do you mean your thighs think otherwise? Disney food has no calories! Hahaha! I seriously will diet/exercise all year round so that I don't think about my weight at Disney. BUT it clearly catches up to you. I'll have to tone down the calorie consumption on the next trip (and the cruise) due to that little matter of a wedding dress next year.

SHAMELESS GIRLS CRUISE PLUGS. I'll try to squeeze another in somewhere too. It's going to be so much fun - I can't wait!

There are so many things I love in this TR already.

1. Jess
2. Your hilarious comment about the rhinos - "Rhino's are so fat. It makes them cuter." This struck me as hilarious and I had a solid chuckle to myself.
3. Picturing you being a blob on the rocks outside Everst
4. That you sad "Last and least Snow White". YOU SING IT GIRL. She is my LEAST favourite princess (as noted in each of my TRs since the beginning). I just don't like what she stands for. She is a blob kinda princess. SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME? Go find him, Ariel did.

Oh yes..thanks plenty, dearest. You're adorbs.
A blob outside of Everest - that is pretty much an exact description of what I looked like. But sometimes you just gotta be a blob to feel better.
FOR REALS. Like...Ariel risked her LIFE by going to shore and then saving him from the ship wreck? And then again by dealing with Ursula...all to get her man. Snow White is "wishing." LAME.

Eek! I am loving all your pics of SSE! Especially with the almost-empty park!!! That is AWESOME!

SSE in an empty park? I could have just skipped breakfast and walked around for an hour. Seriously the best ever. The only BETTER opportunity to do it is book a segway tour for 7:45am. We did it about 2 years ago and there was NO ONE there since the breakfast doesn't open until 8. AMAZING. The tour and the empty EPCOT

Okay, gotta post another comment because I almost forgot two very important things - one, I bought that same blue shirt last month - I can never have enough Epcot shirts! And two, your comments about the princesses cracked me up. I'm more of a villains girl, too - although I do like Belle a lot. Aurora is my "useless" princess. :)

I did end up buying it. I have bought a retro EPCOT shirt on every trip for the past 3 years. Love them. I like Belle, Rapunzel and Ariel - the rest I could take or leave. But Snow White is definitely my "useless" princess. Cindy is a close 2nd if it wasn't for that gorgeous castle of hers...

This is a fun trip report. Can't wait for more. Congrats to you on the engagment!

I have a funny feeling there will be a few more picts of SSE (all you picts of SSE are awesome).

Thank you so much! OH yes there are plenty more SSE pics - don't you worry. I'm obsessed!

Yeah the original title was going to be Low Crowds Full Bellies - but Clear Skies just fit so much better with the FNL theme (even though the skies weren't that clear). I do like the show - even if it's not my favorite. But there aren't many Dexter friendly references for Disney trip reports! haha!

I really wish Disney would step their villain game up. Villains in Vogue is just sad. Even if it's just for Halloween or something - can we get a Villain themed SOMETHING? Character dining, overlay ride...SOMETHING!

SSE is just the best. Add a proposal to it? Even better when I didn't think possible. Creepy gators aside - I did love POFQ. It's going to be hard to not stay there so I can try out other mods so I can fulfill my quest to stay in every resort. It's a shame I found it so soon! I'd only ever stayed at CBR before that and POP so I've gotta step my game up!

YAY I'm so glad someone else knew what I meant by Jambi! I really love Pee Wee. No shame. I have the Christmas Special and Pee Wee's Big Adventure on DVD. Plus 2 seasons of the show. I haven't watched them in ages but I think I might dig them out!

Even though it doesn't have that many rides...I'm happy just strolling around EPCOT with no real purpose. When I picture myself at Disney...I'm standing behind SSE in the Innoventions area listening to the loop. That's my happy/peaceful place!

I'm so happy there is lots of love for SSE - because there are many more to come. I'm addicted to it!

that's my goal too! i felt the same way after i stayed at the wilderness lodge. i love that resort but i still have a lot more resorts that i haven't stayed at yet. i think it would be okay to repeat resorts. :)

omg i LOVE pee wee's big adventure! "there's no basement in the alamo" hahaha my friend and i used to quote that movie all the time in high school. i haven't seen it in forever! i need to buy that dvd.

Oh goodness, if you get me started talking about Dexter. I will just end up hijacking your lovely trip report to discuss everyone's favorite serial killer. :)

LOOOOOVE the title! Though I am a Penn State grad/fan, please don't hate me, lol!~

TOTALLY agree with you on Disney mornings! They have their very own feeling, and every once in awhile a random morning at home (used to be in PA, now in GA) I will say "this feels like a Disney morning"...that sort of dewy, sunny, good smelling morning, know what I mean??

Lovely report and I love the romantical pictures of you and your fiancee :)

I await more!!

It's probably going to crack me up when it happens, but I see myself walking past SSE next month and thinking of you. It might even inspire a few extra pics :D

I'm really glad to see your write up on Akershus breakfast. Just last week, I turned to DH and asked if we should keep our ADR. Seeing empty Epcot and the cold buffet = one big YES. Love that cold buffet, but I wasn't sure if they did it the same way for breakfast...but now I know. Plus good to see that you were out around 9 since that's my goal. And yea...laughing again when you wanted to talk Ursula w/Ariel. That's good stuff!

Also thinking about Vinylmation trading as well...your report's making me think about that again. I have about 5 or 6 I have held onto and minus my Osborn Lights version and what I'm guessing is a Piet Mondrian tribute, I've got a few I'd be willing to swap out. Maybe I can manage this and teaching the kids to pin trade. We shall see.

Can't wait to read more!:)

Wilderness Lodge is actually pretty high on my deluxe wish list. I just like the look of it. I think I'll be knocking off the rest of the values (AoA and All Stars) before we start crossing off deluxe resorts!

SHHH I'M LISTENING TO REASON! I don't make monkeys...I just train 'em! Francis is having his bath...WHERE THEY HOSING HIM DOWN AT? :DHAHAHA I love that movie. I really want to watch it now.

Oh goodness, if you get me started talking about Dexter. I will just end up hijacking your lovely trip report to discuss everyone's favorite serial killer. :)

OH MY GOD. It's by far my favorite show. It's just so weird to root for a serial killer but I do! And anyone on the show I hate I'm like "GOD I hope Dexter kills them." That's just not a normal thought but for Dexter it's OK!

LOOOOOVE the title! Though I am a Penn State grad/fan, please don't hate me, lol!~

BOO PSU! Haha just kidding. I have many friends that went to Penn State (since we live in Pittsburgh) so there's no hard feelings there. It's not like PITT is having a great season! And I can already tell you're not one of those rude & ignorant fans by saying "aw I'm a fan don't hate me" instead of "PENN STATE IS THE GREATEST NOW YOU WILL DIE FOR NOT LIKING THEM GAAAAHHH PATERNO FOR LIFE" Yup it's those fans that bother me. That's in all sports though not just PSU. I'm a Steelers fan. I know many people HATE the Steelers. And I really don't care - like whoever you want! Just don't hate on me if I don't like them. To each their own! :)

Anyway...yes I love Disney mornings. You get so much accomplished. And it just seems calmer and cleaner in the mornings. Weird but thats how I feel!

Yeah we're really not super romantic all the time. We're both rarely serious about anything. But I did try for more romantic pics for the Save the Dates so more to come! Thanks for reading!

Yay I love seeing more SSE pics so the more the merrier!

Akershus was surprisingly really good - food wise and character wise. They didn't linger if they could tell it was awkward but they were adorable to the little kids around us. And the food was tasty and Bill liked trying fish for breakfast. Good stuff! And just because I didn't talk Ursula with Ariel then...doesn't mean I didn't do it later! ;)

Vinylmation Trading. It was something fun to do when browsing the gift shops. And if you don't like the ones you pick - you don't have to trade. So that made it fun. I didn't really know anything about them - which ones are valuable and such so when CMs asked me "looking for anything?" I'd say "Villains, Star Wars or any character one that you can actually tell what it is" Haha. We ended up with 2 we're pretty happy about...but you'll have to wait and see!

GREAT report so far! Looking forward to more.

Thank you for reading! Yep there will be more posted tonight! Promise, promise!

Ok I'm in! I just have one thing to say (ok more than one).... Meka Leka Hi Meka Hiney Ho! :)

Oh and you are a girl after my own heart. I can never get enough shots of SSE and it is indeed one of my favorites (my very favorite at Epcot). DS6 could ride it over and over again if I'd let him as well so he's being well trained. :D

Great report! Dan and I are looking forward to going to Akershus in August when we go with my sis, BIL and niece. It won't feel so weird to eat with the princesses if we have a 3 year old with us! :D It always feels so awkward around those face characters and like you, I was never a princess girl. We ate at Akershus on our honeymoon, pre-princess dining and have always wanted to go back. Now we can lol!

I'm late but I made it! Woot!

I can help my ROOMIE with more shout-outs to the DREAM GIRLS CRUISE!!! Gonna be da bomb!

Lovin' it all! Love your adoration for SSE. When I was in the 2nd grade a girl in my class's (her name was Trina) dad was still working on SSE. I think he was an engineer. Anywhoo, he swore to her that on opening day the Jolly Green Giant was coming to tee off his giant golf ball as part of the ceremonies. We were all sooooo impressed! LOL! Glad he was pullin' her leg because I love SSE as a park weenie the bestest, too. :D

I'm glad we're all sharing our princess feelings because Snow totally gets on my nerves, too. It's the way she talks. It's too much. Almost like she's whining or something. I wanna thump her in the forehead! LOL!

I totally need to get an email to you so we can get caught up some more. 11 months!!! Woot!!!

:D Haha! The old school princesses (especially Snow White) are just a bit too whiney. One of the girls I work with was talking about how she did a paper in school about feminism and the Disney princesses. Old-school were pretty helpless and need a prince to rescue them. Then as the 90's came about you had Belle who rescued The Beast. Jasmine was pretty strong in not needing to marry anyone. Ariel was still in need of some rescuing so that doesn't fit the bill to much. But now you have Rapunzel and Merida who can kick some a$$ lol! The new princesses are so much cooler!

SSE love AND Pee wee love? Ah you are awesome! You definitely get an A for training your son to love SSE. He will make a fine husband someday. When they're both older...I'll give you my soon to be nieces number. Haha!

Wow! It's like you had EPCOT all to yourself. I didn't think "Soarin' walk ons" were even possible!

I would LOVE to have EPCOT all to myself...how much do you think that would cost? Haha. I'd pay large sums of money to be able to explore the inside of SSE with the lights on. Just walking around taking pictures and inspecting things. Ahhh to dream...

Soarin' walk on means walk into the queue and hear Patrick's safety spiel so I guess its technically not a "walk on" because you do have to watch the video. But I think it's the closest thing Soarin' will ever have.

The princesses at Akershus were actually pretty cool about the whole "2 adults no kids" thing. I think almost all of them asked "Do you want to get a picture or are you guys just enjoying the breakfast?" in a nice way so that we did have the option to be like "oh just breakfast but thanks anyway" but I figured - I'm here...let's take a photo. You guys will have fun!

I'm late but I made it! Woot!

HEY ROOMIE! Dream Girls Cruise 2013 is going to LEGEN...wait for it...DARY. LEGENDARY. I'm so excited!

I actually really hate when people call it "The Golf Ball" I accept "The ball" or "The EPCOT ball" because non disney lovers will not recognize the term "Spaceship Earth." I also hate when people make it look like they're holding it up or something. Don't cheapen my baby! She's a beautiful geosphere that is meant to be gawked at and photographed...not pretend Atlas! Hahaha. I'm very protective of her.

Snow White does always seem like she's whining. And maybe my boisterous personality doesn't like her shy one so that could be why I find her annoying. But she's definitely last on the Princess totem pole.

11 months! I love the date being in months now instead of years. WOO HOO!

:D Haha! The old school princesses (especially Snow White) are just a bit too whiney. I never really thought of it but it's true! Bill always brings up how a lot of the best Disney villains are women. And I think he was trying to offend me because I love villains and they apparently make women look evil or whatever...but I was like "Damn straight - women are badass and evil. Love it!" :)

Ah see now we get along!! :D

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO! Really hoping this season picks up because it is not looking promising. It's just a bad football season for the state of Pennsylvania. Haha.

September 13th continued...

So we headed back to the resort for a quick nap. We woke up and Bill was feeling hungry. I really wasn't but I did have something to check off my Disney checklist at Riverside so I suggested we go there. It's not a long walk and it's very pretty walking along the river. Not before long we were looking at Riverside...

Time to head in to the food court for something to eat. But first...a look at some of the selection

Why is it that when I'm home - I could make a whole box of brownies anytime I want but in Disney I'm like "Oh they have BROWNIES!!!" Crazy. But I passed on the brownies for these beauties (Bill got one too I'm not insane)

MAGIC COOKIE BAR.
Ok these things are disgustingly good. They are pretty much diabetes bars but they're so good! Chocolate, butterscotch, graham cracker, coconut and whatever else we have lying around in the sugar shack. I only ate about 1/2 of mine but we took it back to the room to much on throughout the week.

Alright real food. I really wasn't hungry but we had a bazillion counter service meals and I'm just not that hungry that often but since it's paid for...sure I can much on a few nuggets.

Standard chicken nuggets. Good Heinz honey mustard dipping sauce though.

Bill got the Chipotle BBQ burger

Look at that monster.

Bill said the burger was pretty good but just so much food. He didn't even touch his fries.

While surveying the area for a place to sit - I decided I wanted to sit right by the big wheel so I could get the full "Riverside Mill" effect.
