Clear Skies, Full Bellies...Can't Lose! A September 2012 Trip Report

Well…since it’s now been 1 month since I’ve been in Disney and I have received my Disney Photopass – I don’t have any more excuses to not start this trip report. So…let’s get this show on the road.

For those of you who don’t know me…I’m Jess.

P1030167_zps7f11183f.jpg

Here’s my stats:
Number of Trips – this is trip #8
Favorite Park – EPCOT
Favorite Ride – Spaceship Earth
Favorite Disney snack item – Mickeys Cookies n Cream Ice Cream Sandwich
Favorite Disney Character – Ursula the Sea Witch

And traveling with me is my fiancé, Bill.

P1030435_zps451ea205.jpg

His stats:
Number of Trips - this is his 6th
Favorite Park – Magic Kingdom
Favorite Ride – The Haunted Mansion
Favorite Disney snack item – Red velvet cream cheese cupcake from Starring Rolls
Favorite Disney Character – Winnie the Pooh

This is our 5th trip together – once a year since we started dating. And on our last trip in May 2011…THIS happened…

P1020480.jpg

Well I guess it’s not really a surprise since I already called him my fiancé and wrote a whole trip report on it.Here’s the link if you want THAT whole story…

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...s-and-a-proposal-may-2011-trip-report.796403/

But to cut to the chase: He proposed at night by the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth.

P1020479.jpg

I cried. It was absolutely perfect. And I’ve yet to read any other stories of people getting proposed to in front of SSE…which makes it even more magical. (And if you know of one – keep it to yourself. Hahaha!)

This trip was born not long after our trip in May. My fiancé is in med school and his school works with 11 months of rotations and 1 month off. Bill’s month off was September. So we decided to go then and too go for our longest trip ever (8 days!) and to bump up resort levels after staying at POP Century for 4 trips. So this trip we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. We chose it for the intimate size of the resort, the fact that it had a sister resort we could utilize and neither of us had stayed there before. Spoiler alert – we absolutely fell in love with the resort ! But we also bumped up an extra day because - this will be OUR (notice – not MY) last trip until 2014. We have a wedding date set for October 12, 2013…and we are NOT doing a Disneymoon.

I know…we’re crazy. But we’ve been there together so many times already and plan to go so many times after the wedding that we wanted a honeymoon that is unique and special. Plus – my Disney trips are anything but relaxing. And I want a honeymoon that is basically – sleeping, drinking, eating, and…other stuff that I wouldn’t talk about on a family site but you get my drift. Pure relaxation. And at Disney – I’m sun up to sun down kinda girl. Plus I’m going with my mom and sister in March 2013 and probably for a few days in September before or after my WDWMAGIC GIRLS CRUISE! Check out all the info on this awesome cruise happening with some fantastic ladies of wdwmagic!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...agic-girls-cruise.816925/page-46#post-5173681

Ok. Enough with the explanations and shameless plugs for girl cruises (which again is September 8th – 12th 2013…plenty of girls still looking for roomies!) Let’s get on with the show!!!

September 11th, 2012

Work all day – blah. But at night…my sister, mom and I were going to see Jersey Boys in Pittsburgh. Every year on my sister and my birthdays…we buy each other tickets to see whatever musicals are playing in Pittsburgh. This year nothing great fell ON my birthday (October 15th) but Jersey Boys was playing mid September and I had never seen it.

330x235

I loved the show and was totally worth the 12:30AM bedtime that followed the show.

September 12th, 2012

Boy…2:45 AM comes really quickly when you pour yourself into bed at 12:30. We were up and moving (albeit quite slowly) finishing packing and such. Bill’s friend from med school came to pick us up and take us to the airport. We were flying out of the Pittsburgh airport but flying into the Latrobe airport because Latrobe is about 15 minutes from our house. But they had no outbound flights on this day. ANYWAY…we fly through security – grab a bagel & pumpkin spice latte to split and we’re on the plane at 6:05 AM. Touchdown in Orlando at 8:10am. Then I saw this and squealed like a school girl…

P1030043_zpsaf461bff.jpg

WOO HOO WE’RE HERE. Well almost. We head through DME and we were on a bus at 8:45 ready to head to our home for the next 8 days…

Sorry for the delay! 3 day weekend followed by a few crazy days at work. But I'm back! BOOM BABY!

September 15th

6:30 AM - NO SLEEEEEEPING. It was EMH at DHS. We were down to the bus about 7:15 and waited and waited and waited - worst bus experience yet. But we got on and we made it there about 8:05 am.

P1030594_zps5b7eecc2.jpg

On our way to Toy Story Mania to grab some FPs

P1030595_zps7630b0a1.jpg

P1030596_zpse56ca938.jpg

P1030598_zpscaa6b1dd.jpg

We then headed down to ride one of my all time FAVORITE rides...

P1030599_zps915e3a29.jpg

NOPE. Not that one. That pic is for Jess and Kenz. THIS is one of my favs...

LOVE ON A ROLLER COASTAAAAAAA! I love this ride. And there was no one in line so we rode twice with no wait. AH I just laugh and sing and smile from beginning to end. Then it was time for breakfast.

We went to Starring Rolls. But what did we choose?

P1030610_zps24b23472.jpg

We ended up with 2 very healthy choices to split.

The Napoleon
P1030612_zps3906aa2d.jpg

The Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cucpake (The cupcake all other cupcakes dream about)
P1030613_zpsce05d129.jpg

P1030615_zpse8621664.jpg

That cupcake is the BEST cupcake on the planet. I love it. The napoleon was something I was just trying out to see if I liked it. I really don't. It was just OK. Hard to eat - as in difficult to get a forkful of icing/pasty/filling - instead it kind of flattened so you got icing and pastry. No matter. The cupcake more than filled both of us anyway.

Bill won. As per usual. I beat him through the whole ride until the Prospector scene in the mine. My arm is so tired! I can't pull it that fast! (That's what she said)

We then decided to go ride the Backlot Tour/Catastrophe Canyon. I know a lot of people aren't big fans - but I like going through the prop room and seeing the wardrobe rooms and the villains display at the end.

P1030629_zpse9a83a73.jpg

As we're walking up...a CM is talking to 2 people who are shaking their heads. Then she looks into the crowd...I need 2 volunteers! I hold up my hand saying "2" and she calls us up - we knew this drill...we were in the show! On my family trip a few years back - Bill, my sister and brother in law all got to be in the show. I was really sad I didn't get to. So this was my trip to be in it! Bill and I were there 2 goons cleaning the ship. Since it was just us - nobody took our pictures but it was a very cool experience. I'd definitely do it again. Beats watching the actual thing.

Then onto the tour!

Bill and I both really love this show. We both love the corny jokes and recite them often at home. While on the quest for lunch - we ran into the scariest monster in Monstropolis!

Photo0078FourBySix_zps40f58d5d.jpg

My computer is being quite funky right now so I'll take a break.

Coming up: Good food at DHS? I DONT BELIEVE IT!

I had remembered reading on the Disney Food Blog that Studios Catering Co had a "new" buffalo chicken sandwich - which sounded right up Bill's alley. We decided to split 1 sandwich, fries, a drink and a marble cheesecake.

P1030643_zpsde465a91.jpg

P1030642_zps3b7369e4.jpg

The sandwich is actually very good! The sauce wasn't too spicy (I had ranch with mine too) and we got some extra sauce on the side so Bill could sauce his up. And there were low lines for lunch time and plenty of seating. Great lunch spot! Very pleased with our choice.

Then we walked around and did some shopping...

P1030644_zpsac9a0bc0.jpg

I really love anything Oz related. Even prison TV shows that have nothing to do with the stories. Haha.

Food window shopping

This peanut butter cookie would be one of the 1st casualties of my Disney food check list. Alas, I was unable to consume this cookie during our visit. BUT it's very high on the list for March 2013.

P1030650_zps53214bf1.jpg

STAR WARS NERD.
I vow that one day I'm going to buy the ridiculous Darth Vader and Storm Trooper outfits for Halloween. Like the really expensive full on suit ones. It's on.

Bill laughed out loud at this racial/hipster/nerd/thug merchandise
P1030651_zpsb22fd285.jpg

There's just so many things wrong with that shirt...which is probably why I love it.

About 2 trips ago...Bill found this hat that he liked at DHS. It was white w/a blue "D" on it. We didn't buy it when we saw it then - but when we had went to find it...it was gone. We searched every park. Called the merchandise people. Everywhere. Gone. BUT we found it this trip!

P1030652_zpsaa1e7653.jpg

And of course we saw them everywhere after that!

We strolled down Sunset and I rode RnRC in single riders line while Bill cooled off. We walked around a bit.

Then headed over to The Great Movie Ride. I asked for the Western Scene because Bill had never seen it before. He was impressed!

P1030656_zps29c41e66.jpg

P1030658_zpsd85cba36.jpg

We used our 2nd set of Toy Story FPs (Bill wins again...shocking) and then back to the bus to POFQ.

But first a few photopass pics...

I should mention at some point during our trip to DHS - we went into the Art of Animation through the gift shop to see if there were any good characters out - just Mickey with a long line. So on our way back through we saw there was a mystery box for vinylmation. The CM there was absolutely fantastic. We were so clueless about trading and he explained that since villains and some star wars were older - they will be harder to find. So Bill asked...are there any recognizable characters? He hinted us in the right direction....and we traded BOTH of our vinylmations for these 2...

P1030665_zps6b0d0136.jpg

EEEEEK I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH! So much love for wheezy for multiple reasons and Rapunzel is slowly creeping the ladder of my fav princesses (which is a really hard ladder to even get on as I'm not a princess person)

We went back to watch the end of the PITT game...where PITT defeated Virgina Tech! WOO P-I-T-T Let's go PITT!

We decided to venture to Downtown Disney. We thought...lovely time to take the boats! But...it was raining.

P1030664_zpsb718d54c.jpg

No boats due to rain. Waaaaah. So we took the bus instead.

P10306652_zps7d8a15b5.jpg

P1030666_zps85f59ae6.jpg

We decided to get something in our bellies as we had split lunch earlier and had a late dinner coming up.

P1030667_zps1fd3553a.jpg

We decided (see: I) on the four cheese pesto pizza.

P1030668_zps7212e0e5.jpg

P1030669_zps538e105c.jpg

IT WAS SOOOO GOOD. Another good spot for pizza in Disney. I wasn't crazy about the dried tomatoes but they were easy to pick out - next time I'll ask without but still...really awesome pizza!

Creme Brulee for dessert...not so amazing.

P1030670_zps4e7a30d3.jpg

Bill enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty meh. Time to shop! To World of Disney of course!!!

P1030671_zps31d5c511.jpg

I love 'em.

P1030672_zps2df9c362.jpg

especially this one.
I asked Bill if I could get it and he said no. And I asked why. He said it would just sit next to my other doll of Ursula (my Ursula barbie) and I'd do nothing with it. He's totally right. You win this time, fiance. But you won't be there for my March trip and this will be coming home with me! Muwahahaha!

We did buy a few things for our nieces and nephews.

Bus back to POFQ. Quick shower and change then it was time for dinner with a small detour to MK. Our dinner was at Narcoossees and we got a bit dressed up so I wanted some Main St. pics in our cute outfits to use for Save the Dates. I love this one.

Now time for dinner at
P1030676_zpsd0582ec1.jpg

This was our first time eating here. We were really excited!

Bill ordered the 2 lb lobster
P1030679_zpsda3e9225.jpg

I ordered the Surf n Turf (with a bright flash)
P1030680_zps46ff84eb.jpg

Bill REALLY enjoying his meal
P1030681_zps4a8372fb.jpg

We both loved our meals. Really yummy. It was about 5 minutes until Wishes! when our server came over to ask if she'd like us to hold our desserts until after..what a great idea! So stood out on the deck to watch Wishes! I cried. Ahh it's just a wonderful score and it just never gets old.

The moment we sat down we got desserts. Talk about great service!

I had the almond crusted cheesecake
P1030682_zpsedffd4cd.jpg

Bill had the cheese plate
P1030686_zpsa9624e04.jpg

P1030683_zps45ff981c.jpg

WOW. Best desserts of the trip. First the cheese plate - so good and so fun to try different cheeses with different stuff. Really loved the experience here as well as the cheese itself. Now the cheesecake. Until this day my favorite Disney dessert had been the lemon cheesecake at Grand Floridian Cafe....BUT NO LONGER. This almond crusted cheesecake was perfection. The waitress asked how it was and I told her it had taken over the spot of the best Disney cheesecake ever and she asked my previous favorite and I told her and she said "Well the Grand Floridian has their own pastry chef who makes all the desserts for all the restaurants in the resort." So there is a person out there who makes BOTH of my favorite cheesecakes? SHOUT OUT TO THAT PASTRY CHEF...you're my favorite person. Best. Cheesecakes. Ever.

We went back to the monorail after and then grabbed a bus to POFQ from MK (no Grand Floridian strolling this evening...I had no liquid courage) we ended up watching a little TV and going to bed around 11.

It was a great day. Great rides at DHS and great food all around. The weather was hot - around 90 with a little rain in the afternoon. But all in all...a wonderful Disney day!

Thanks! Oh I ate WAY too much on this trip - but that's what diets are for...pre and post trips but definitely not during! We were usually too full to even eat dessert on most dinners - just getting it because of DDP - but that almond crusted cheesecake...couldn't stop eating it!

All caught up!! :) ok, where to start.....

I LOVE that you "broke in" to the wedding pavilion!! I would have done the same thing, with or without liquid courage. That is my dream wedding venue!!

Via Napoli is a must do for us, too! This last trip, we had a bus boy keep coming over to our table and he wasn't supposed to and the chef kept telling him to go back to his own tables and then at one point we were talking to him about where in Italy he is from and the chef came over with a cell phone and said "you wife is on the phone" since he (his name was Andrea) was flirting with us. He was HOT though so it was fine with me! lol Half the reason we go is for the pizza... the other half is for the scenery (aka - the Italian men!)

I just love mornings at MK. You can get soooo much done! I've never met Eric and Ariel but they are on my list for May!! :)

Ohana is a MUST DO for us! I love every part of the meal (except the shrimp) I can't pick my favorite part cause it's all so yummy. we are going in May and we're going to have my cousins birthday dinner there. We loved Narcoossee's too. My Mom got the cheesecake and she loved it. I followed John's advice (because I was afraid he would hunt me down if I didn't!) and got the strawberry shortcake and it was soooo good. I love strawberries anyway but if John hadn't raved so much about it I probably would have gone with the cheesecake. I love cheesecake! YUM!!!!

And speaking of John, I told him when I come to Pittsburgh that we need to go to Burgatory and get me a milkshake cause those things look freakin good!!! :)

MAN. She is awesome.

Yes, she is! I can't decide what I love more about Ursula: how she owns her sexy self regardless of her size/shape or that voice of hers, that silky growly purr. Ya know?

We then decided to go ride the Backlot Tour/Catastrophe Canyon. I know a lot of people aren't big fans - but I like going through the prop room and seeing the wardrobe rooms and the villains display at the end.

I'm like a little kid when they go past the wardrobe displays/rooms. I totally geek out over the sewing equipment (I'm a nerd :p) plus I want to put on some of the costumes and primp in the mirror!!!! Why do they always whiz by this part so fast??? I want them to stop and let me gaze for a while!

Do you ever look at other people's reports and think, "I have that same pic! Same angle!", and get all excited?! I do!!! Except yours is missing 2 little things mine has:

Well here I am up in this trip report.

You sure know how to tell a story and keep things interesting. Kudos for that. I am reading on my phone and replying online. Your pictures are REALLY good fro a point and shoot. What camera are you using?

That was an awesome, but not awesome surprise for Bill with Ohana (cause we don't like it) but good for Billiam. It's nice you let the guy live a little here and there!

I did not read anywhere about the hair removal cream you wanted for your belly button so i am assuming you forgot it or have not used it yet? I'm excited to hear how that went.

Oh and we need to do Burgatory, Ichiban, or just sit and hang out again really soon. You two make the plans...us two will be there.

I do like Ohana. But I just can't eat as much as I want to. I wish I could get the dessert first and then the appetizers. I could be happy with just those.

BURGATORY. I'm actually going this weekend - my friend from Boston is coming home and she's like "I always see these pictures of fantastic shakes...I want to go there!" And this weekend's special shake...BOSTON CREAM PIE...it's crazy ironic.

I really love Ursula. It's her badass-ness that makes me love her. I've always loved the villains - I was the Wicked Witch of the West for like 4 straight Halloweens because she is awesome too.

I LOVE that picture of your boys! It's crazy how grown up they are now. They are adorable. Oh...I guess it's not cool to be called adorable when you're teenagers...don't tell them I said that. Tell them I said they're super handsome!! They'll make some young ladies very happy one day.

Oz was a great show. We discovered it on Netflix and would watch the entire disc in an evening. Really cool show. We're Dexter obsessed now. And I with Homeland. And White Collar (Sigh...Matt Bomer...swooooon) yes I watch too much TV.

I was never a vinylmation lover - like..what do you do with them? But Bill's mom bought him one once (trying to be nice and buying something Disney) and got him Oogie Boogie from NBC. For months it just sat on the shelf but then I started hiding it places. It ends up in his to go bag on on his way to rotations, it's in the cereal box, in the car, etc...So we figured that trading to find ones we liked would be fun. HINT: One of those 2 vinylmations survive the entire trip.

Bill knows that if and when I buy that Ursula plush - that it will just sit next to my rhino from rainforest cafe in DTD, my pascal and my Ursula barbie. Yeah I'll never like..play with it. But it's there for fun! I'm sure it's coming home in March!

I will work on an email with some dress pictures. We're in the process of getting shoes so they can measure me properly as to not have to cut off the bottom should it need hemmed because the bottom has a lace design. I promise pictures soon!

I have no idea about the camera. It's Bills. Hahaha. It's blue. That I know. Luminex I believe is the name.

Yeah - me giving Bill 3 dinners was a stretch. I know his next picks are going to be Morocco and Mexico or something...he likes weird food. Not that Mexican is weird it's just not something I like. But we've never eaten at either place so it will be 2 places to cross off.

I did forget the cream. And really shocked to find that Disney doesn't sell it in any gift shop. I was going to buy some online and rush order it to the hotel but it was going to be pretty costly and it wouldn't arrive until the day before we left. So it wasn't worth it. I just wore t-shirts in the pool for the rest of the trip.

I've been to a few Japanese steakhouses but never Ichiban exactly. And I still want to do Sidelines for the "best wings ever" but do they have good ranch? Thats why my place is my favorite...their ranch is the best. Bad ranch is a deal breaker. I don't want any of that bottled crap. I'm taking homemade bar ranch.Let me know

Yeah Colleen wants to eat at San Angel Inn and I have about as much interest in that as I do being kicked in the junk.

Wearing a shirt while swimming is the worst feeling ever.

Sidelines has GREAT ranch. In fact I get plain wings so I can just dip in ranch. It is not bottled (Which I hate).
