only b/c we need another wrench thrown in...

I was thinking today that we really need to think about our target market. Currently I view the Railroad as a relaxing attraction that everyone can ride. An overlay can/should attract more people to the attraction. If we make it very scary we may attract a lot more people, but at the same time we're going to push away a large amount. If we tone it down a bit it will still draw its current audience, plus draw more people who wouldn't normally ride the railroad, but are looking forward to seeing something new.

This overlay obviously isn't going to single-handedlly draw more people to the park overall, but it's individual demand would be a measure of success.

We've put overselves in a dificult position by choosing an atraction that doesn't lend itself to this sort of makeover, it was a poor choice, but we made our bed and so we must lie in it.

Tazer and Stitch are doing the story, once we hear from them, we can sort out a script Figmental, I'll let you and Tiki work on that while small details such as hidden gems can be shared up between the remaining players (including me if needs be), once we're done I'll pull it all together and post

I havea couple of story ideas but I don't know, the more I look at it, the more I see that it would be a logistical nightmare to do anything with the railroad. First off, the tracks themselves go through some major utility/service routes. Having to meddle with it at night would be a huge nightly hassle.

There's also very little places we could actually put stuff in. They're all mostly covered by trees that are already wonderful to look at during the day, doing something that can only be seen at night would leave obvious 'foot prints' during the day.

Not only that, the train runs pretty fast. Too fast to tell any real sort of story. The railroad itself is really more of a sight seeing vehicle rather than a real story-based attraction. Plus if we set up any dioramas or anything that is intended to be temporary, it would clearly be a distraction for people who are in the park as a lot of parts of the railway are really really close to on-stage guests in the parks.

And it's an old fashioned train, we can't exactly program it to run any fancy stops or movement sequences. If I remember correctly, it's still actually driven by people. With all the hub bub over the monorail accidents, I think we're kind of asking for trouble if we want to make any sort of show with it.

The more we delve into this, the more we realise we've chosen something that's either going to be hard of impossible to do properly. I'm all for trying to salvage something, I propose we attempt to get the judges to allow us to chose again and try again this time with Pirates.

While Pirates is more doable, I'm not really sure what good story we can come up with that would pair nicely with the actual story for Pirates of the Carribean. I mean I suppose we could do a zombie or skeleton Pirates overlay where the curse of the black pearl could be in effect.

The reason I suggested Pirates was as it's easy to come up with something servicable in a short space of time, if anyone else has an idea, I'm happy to hear it. But bear in mind, there's a good chance we're stuck with the railroad.

How bout instead of crying over what we were stuck with, we try to find SOLUTIONS to these problems. StitchCastle, you bring up some very valid points about the limited space of the railroad. That being said, I just look at it as just another challenge to overcome. We can do A LOT with some simple sound effects and lighting, something that doesn't require any dramatic stops or complicated set pieces. Just think about this guys. Were never going to get ANYWHERE wining about it.

No but we're trying to do something about it. We have people working on a story that may pull us through, but I'm sorry if you think "simple sound effects and lighting" are going to cut the mustard, then I really do think you're going to be disapointed.

I don;t want to come accross as harsh, but thats my feeling on this.

I know this might seem that im interjecting or whatever, but i feel like you guys have almost missed the point of this challenge (sorry to say)..

THS is NOT a refurbishment, but a simple Halloween themed layover, simiar to HMH or GhostGalaxy.

No, we know what it is, the problem we're having is that the attraction the team picked doesn't fit the idea at all.

So for Frontierland, maybe we can just have the train stop and create an indian attack."

Yes. Take it from one who has experienced one, it is scary! However, you don't even need to stop the train. If anything, the train should speed up (if possible) to try and outrun the Indians, who would be on horseback. And the best part about this is that it can be accomplished in daylight, as I have learned from personal experience. If you have the conductor off-handedly mention how "the Indians get kind of vicious, but they haven't been a problem lately, so we should be okay," the attack is then set up perfectly. I know it seems obvious, but let me say, ten-year-old me almost had a heart attack. The key to it is keeping the attack close to the facts, and not have them too ridiculously stereotyped, or else it almost becomes comical.

Oh, and one more idea... lets stop whining about what we have and rise to the challenge. This attraction has real potential to do well, and right now its going nowhere because we can't handle the heat. I know it's tough, but let's just bite the bullet and do this thing.

I want to do well I really do, but I fair to see the potentail in this I never really have done, we had a superb idea at the start, and somewhere along this line w elost our way.

But we do have to bite the bullett and get on with it. Do we have a new story idea?

Like I said, the Indian attack was very good, it can scare people both in the day and in the night.

Stitch and I have been PMing back and forth. He's been off for awhile and I'm going to have to jump off for a bit. I think we'll have the basics tomorrow. That will give us the remainder of tomorrow, Friday and almost all of Saturday.

You guys figure it out. I'm sick of being a team player. This is ridiculous. There's NO communication in this team. I don't think we have to do anything too elaborate. Sound and lighting actually can accomplish quiet a lot. Granted, the overlay won't RELY on just that, I'm just saying. Stitchcastle mentioned stretches where we can't really PUT anything. Well, in those sections, I really don't think a couple extra lights or speakers would be a problem. There we go, something to put into those sections. In the areas that offer a little more space, go a bit more elaborate. There's also fog machines, cobwebs, decorations, that we can put basically ANYWHERE. This is NOT as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Think outside the freaking box, for the love of Walt!

We could flicker the lights on the train. We can have the conductors narration be part of the story. Hell, we can plant actors on board the train. This is NOT that difficult, people!

Please, just keep pessimism to a minimum. I do enough pouting and moaning about things that really aren't that big a deal in my own life. If there's anything I've learned from that, it's that pouting and moaning will NOT solve your problems. Actually putting on a positive attitude and working with what you have will.

Tiki, do you have any ideas on how we improve communication? Both for the remainder of this project and going forward.

Well for one, I think a positive attitude is one of the key things that's missing here. If you guys tell yourselves that the railroad is unworkable, than OF COURSE it's unworkable. You know what I mean? In terms of just overall, it really helps to establish jobs, make sure everyone has something to do, and that no one is left out. Those are really two of the key things, positive attitude and organization. If we can get those two things down, were golden in my opinion.
