I did PM Mater, as soon as I was nominated, AND I pm'ed him about our choice of ride. I'm gonna be heading to bed now, I'm liking the work so far.

I'm definatley thinking some live actor work a-la HHN would be nice, in the camps, and possibly in the longer "dead" areas, rather than a screen, that seems to be a cop out to me. I'm not suggesting we go for mega gory or whatever, but the kind of "pop out from behind a bush and shout BOO" scare.

The CM's would be near Adventureland (Safari Guy) and near Main Street (Mafia Members).

You dont like the screens? I really thought people would like those... and I wanted every land to be represented... I also think that they could just be projected onto the grass... it's kinda hilly over there...

Actually, two of the cartoons can be shown on both sides of the tunnel just before Toontown.

Wow! Looks like you guys were busier than I was!! Great work everyone! I am in agreement with MathewGW that it would be cooler to use real people. I get where you're coming from on the screens, but live action and maybe even interaction would freak me out more. It makes it more real and plausible.

Agreed here as well. I think we can come up with something more original for the screens area. Otherwise I like where things are headed.

I'm calling it a night, but wanted to through out two random thoughts for discussion:

1. Is the train station being removed from toontown with the new expansion? If so, we'll just have to account for more room to work with and no stop.
2. I'm not feeling the main street gangster idea. Even on its worst day, Main Street would be the last place I'd expect the gangster overlay. I know we're going for scary, but personally I don't think it adds anything.

The project looks good so far!!
What about hidden mickeys or hidden gems?? Are we going to add any of those? If you want I could do that?? Is there anything I can do?? Btw I get my cast off in 2 weeks!!:sohappy:

There's tons of hidden gems... and it would kinda be hard to do hidden mickeys... it's pitch black dark.

Well, it has to be somewhat related to Toontown. I was thinking maybe the actual house from "The Lonely Ghosts" and some people dressed as skeletons doing the Skeleton Dance.

No, the station is not being removed. It's just gonna become the Fantasyland station.

Why not? There has to be SOMETHING back there.

In the main project thread, one of the judges pointed out that even if guests are traveling to Frontierland From Main Street (the shortest distance between stops) it still needs an immersive story. So I'm thinking:

Story 1--- The Perils Of Adventureland

Story 2--- The Haunting of James Carson/The Legend of Sleepy Hollow/The Shadowlands

Story 3---TOONTOWN STORY/Alien Invasion!/MAIN STREET STORY

My personal opinion is that the gangsters don't fit main street at all. Even if we're doing a scary/halloween overlay, the story still has to make sense.

Secondly, as you mentioned, it sounds too similar to GMR.

Here's my suggestion: use that area to add to the Tomorrowland story, have a bright flash towards the end and BAM back safe and sound in the safety and familiarity of Main Street.

I havent read the whole thread yet but gangsters for the main street part!? that's not going to work at all. They don't fit in with main street and it's only going to dilute the small town feel of it all.

Here's a quick layout:

WDW Haunted Railroad Highlights

-Leave MS Station
--Introduction to the WDW Haunted Railroad

-Adventureland
--Narrator introduces dangers of Adventureland, various noises are heard
--Little outpost area (cast member can sit with torch, warning passengers)

-Pirates Tunnel
--Pirate's Voices can be heard (like they're in the tunnel, then gunshots)

-Splash Mountain Tunnel
--Windows blacked out, Splash vultures tell you that if your smart, you'd get off now

-Frontierland Station
--Load/unload opportunity

-Big Thunder Mountain Back Area
--Narrator explains the James Carson Story, bobcat red eyes can be seen along the side

-Settler's Village
--Screams of settlers are heard (BTMR screams), there settlement is on fire.

-Indian Camps
--Train comes to a halt. Indian yells can be heard, and zooming sounds create impression of spears being thrown. James Carson's ghost's voice can be heard. Train starts moving again.

-Rattlesnakes along left side of train

-Area near HM (after James Carson) for HH
--Headless Horseman appears, his horse in an upright position, he is on fire, warning the guests that they will pay for interrupting his chase with Ichabod Crane.

-Tunnel leading to Toontown and surrounding area
--Various villain's voices are heard

-Toontown Station
--Load/unload opportunity

-Long area (where walkway to Tomorrowland is)
--Screens showings clips from the Skeleton Dance, Lonesome Ghosts, and Trick or Treat alongside the train

-Huge Empty Area near Tomorrowland (between CoP and Space Mountain)
--Alien Attack Scene

-Area near Main Street
--Narrator explains to beware the back alleyways of Main Street... as multiple early 1900's gangsters stop the train (sounds like GMR, doesn't it?) and hold random guests hostage. Before they can do anything, police sirens are heard and they run off. The conductor than assists the hostages back onto the train.

-Arrive Back at Main Street Station

Also, every bridge will be a rickety one. (Sounds effects)

some thoughts, I don't mean to sound rude or anything but:

It's all very random. None of the stories make any real thematic sense.

I'm also not digging that most of the ride, we're just hearing voices and sounds. With the train's engine, it could be easily overlooked. We also have too much narrating. Why don't we just show it?

I also think that the stories are a little too complex for what should essentially be set-ups for whatever land the guests are disembarking onto.

Also, it's getting to be too scary what with the live actors and pitch black darkness.

I think if you really wanna go somewhere with this, whoever mentioned the Haunted Hay Ride experience is on the right track. Something like that that is familiar and traditional, with a very classic American feel to it. It also feels inherently safe and warm.

Now imagine that along with it all being set up by Mickey and friends.

let's be honest here guys, this is becoming a bit of a joke. Theres no real concensus, we've picked an idea that, let's be real here, isn't going to work. I said it all along, it doesn't lend itself to an overlay, it's too wide reaching, theres too much dead space to fill, it crosses too many lands, etc, etc.

The story that Figmental came up with is, with all due respect, weak. Stitch summed it up best, but all we really have is some narration and noises. Ok theres a few bits with actors, but they're either WAY to OTT, or a GMR rip off.

We're better than this guys, look at our last project, it was superb, we came together so well, what's happened fella's? I know I'm not the leader Tazer is, but I'm not online when most of you are. Let's try and salvage something. I'm gonna ask stitch is he'd mind having a crack at the story, sorry Figmental, but I think perhaps a new perspective is gonna be helpful.

I'll have a look at some effects we could use, and where we could place them. Once we have the story, I'll assign someone to write a script

Okay, here's my take on this whole scenario.

First of all, aliens equals no. They're cheesy. Did anyone want to see aliens in an Indiana Jones movie? Of course not. Therefore, honestly I think basing the whole story around aliens would be pretty fatal. Secondly, Mathew, I really don't get your pessimism involving this idea. Yeah, there's a lot of dead space to fill in. What's wrong with that? Everyone would be EXPECTING us to do something like Pirates. Myself, personally, I like a challenge. I think we have a great idea here with having the various lands be various scary happenings. I think it's a solid foundation. Here's basically the gist of what I've come up with.

Adventureland-Jungle perils
Frontierland-Sleepy Hollow
Fantasyland-Disney Villains
Tomorrowland-Aliens (Just for the love of god, not for the entire duration.)

I think it's a great idea, I think this kind of format lends itself well to making sure everyone has something to work on, and most importantly, I think it's really original. We need teamwork and communication here, guys. As for the story itself, I was thinking basically it would be the conductor telling ghost stories, and the events that unfold are basically the ghost stories he is telling.

Honestly, guys, what we have now is a dilemma.

Both teams this round chose difficult attractions, what with the other team choosing Jungle Cruise.

I understand the criticism, but please realize that it is extremely dark and therefore hard to do much with.

I also understand the general dislike for the gangsters, there's really nothing scary about Main Street. So we can just leave that area alone.

Not much can be done with the Adventureland area, it's extremely restricted, so I definitely think we should stick with what we now have.

I'm gonna have to say that the James Carson idea is weak. It's too big a story to tell in a good minute.

So for Frontierland, maybe we can just have the train stop and create an indian attack.

I personally think we should also keep the Headless Horseman/Sleepy Hollow idea.

And I also know we kinda reached a consensus on the Fantasyland villains, so we can keep that.

Something definitely needs to be done with that stretch of land on the Toontown/Tomorrowland walkway.

I also think the alien idea is kinda weak. Something better can definitely done there. Maybe we can do some sort of XS Tech tie in back there.

Once again, the gangster idea was kinda just something I threw out... but I like Tazer's idea that after the Tomorrowland scene, you return to the safeness of Main Street.

I also don't think it's just "a bunch of noises."

I posted previously that an X-S Tech thing in that area would not only please fanboys, but also kinda add a scary experience to the ride. That alien was creepy.

Also, I disagree with the bad outlook on this attraction from our team members. We can really run with this, guys.

I like your stories. Toontown, Liberty Square, and Main Street aren't very story-oriented, unlike the other areas. So, they don't have to be represented on the ride.

And I agree, it will turn out really original.

Also, I'd kinda like one more try at the story. I've considered everyone's input to my previous ideas and I think I can work with them.

Maybe you can divvy up the stories between me and stitch. That way, more attention is paid to the individual areas.

Also, I'm having good thoughts about the script. I already sorta have a script typed up, and I can post it and we can just change it as we will.

By all means, it's not rude. I consider it constructive criticism.

I've taken the randomness into consideration, and I can definitely fix that.

I understand where you're coming from, but keep in mind that it's dark, and it's a little hard to show things. The train's engine also is a problem. Maybe for each scene, the train can stop so we can tell a decent story. But leading up to the scene, the story has to be introduced. So we'll just have to run the train slower to reduce noise, and just play the audio louder.

To complex.... I see. If I had a dollar for every time I was told something was "too complex." But anyway, I'm trying to change that. The script will basically have the "set up" for the upcoming destination you're looking for.

I got rid of the Mafia... so at this point there's only one live actor... in the Adventureland area were we need all the help we can get. There may be live actors back in FL too, however.

So you're wanting it to be more family-friendly?
