"Chicken Little" critical for Disney reputation

I saw it Friday, and I thought it was absolutely horrible. I didn't find it the least bit enjoyable. It was boring and the story was weak. My little brother and sister really liked it though.

Just saw a thread on Box Office Mojo that Chicken Little made 17.8 million on Saturday. That is a great! Hurray for CL! Should give it at least 38-40 opening weekend.

It did quite well....and does not really have any competition until HP is released in 2 weeks.

Another thing to consider....Chicken Little had a budget of $60million.......far less than Treasure Planet ($180 million) and the last few traditional films ($100million+)

Even far less than Pixar films ($90million'ish)

CL will definitely be a money maker. Sure it won't have the legs of the Pixar films, but it should clear $100 million.

Unless it just dies, it will easily cross the 100 mark. After we see how it holds up next weekend against some family-fare competition with Zathura, we will have a better idea on just how much above the 100 million mark it will make domestically. My guess for a final gross is around 150 million, but definetely less than 200.

I'm predicting a final gross of about $140 million or so --- it's going to get hit hard when Potter comes out. Zathura also poses some competition next week.

IF this movie had wide acceptance...and if those people that went to see it, not only liked it, but also spread the word...I think this movie could break 200 domestically when all is said and done...even with Zathura and HP coming up...I think 'little' will do good....will it have the strength to linger in the top ten for as long as Nemo? That remains to be seen. But like stated, this movie will cover its costs and give Disney some nice profits....

I predict it'll drop quite a bit next week once word gets around that its not a very good movie.

Which is exactly why I'm not ready to say this will cross the $150 million barrier. It should definately cross $100 million, but crazier things have happened. Bad word of mouth can make a movie drop like a rock. But sometimes word of mouth doesn't mean that much either.

We went and saw it last night.....

While I didn't enjoy it as much as some other "kid's" movies, my boys thought it was great. Length was a little short for me, but perfect for my 6 yr old who gets antsy. I really was impressed with the animation. I thought the story a bit bland as well.

My favorite quote... "Oh, snap....". LOL

I just saw it as well and while I'd say it was far from being a classic, it wasn't bad at all. It had a compelling enough story to keep me entertained for 77 minutes, and it definitely had some very funny moments. I was a little surprised how intense some of the scenes were, especially for a movie geared toward kids, and the storyline itself I thought was a little all over the place- as if they hadn't really decided what type of movie it was supposed to be. Overall, much better than some of what Disney has done lately, but no where near as good as "the classics."

What happened after the credits!? I have to go see it a third time now

There is about a 30 second scene with Chicken Little and Buck Cluck. It has nothing to do with the story in the movie though. Just a little joke about the theatre. It was in the 3D version, I didn't stay til the end for the 2D one.
Does anyone know if the scene is in that version too?

I saw the 3-D version twice, but I didn't think to stay after the dancing portion of the credits was over. Hmmm.

I liked the movie so if I went again I would stay to see the very end of the credits but it wasn't the greatest joke ever. The first time we had to depend on public transportation to get home so we didn't wait through the end of all of the credits.

I stayed to the end of the 2-D version and did NOT see anything after the credits. It just went to the Walt Disney Pictures castle and the green "Rated G" frame.

The end sequence must only be for the 3-D format, especially if it references the theatre itself.

I thought it was a lot of fun. I saw it with another 40ish adult (female) and her daughter, 14, and two boys (15 & 16). All of them liked it, especially the guys.

I had read the reviews and was prepared to be slightly disappointed with constant pop-culture references and pop tunes; but I ended up thinking it was mostly fresh and fun. I did think that the pop-music interludes were excessive and got a little in the way (also too much like "Shrek"), BUT I did think that it was fun and had at least enough heart to make you care for the little guy.

I think that the animation was good, also. On par with the Pixar films, for my money, and had the look of the "Toy Story" films. (Not surprising, since most Pixar guys initially came from Disney in the first place.)

I still hold, though, that Disney does best not trying so hard to "keep up with the latest and greatest," but simply telling a timeless story, with some mixture of beauty, empathy, and comedy.... and next time some original music again. Let Dreamworks do "Shrek." Disney should do Disney, whether CGI or traditional.

But this film was fun, and I recommend it.
