Well, the little clucker did boffo box office. So much for the critics.

I thought I read it was the second best opening for any Disney movie, only behind The Lion King...obviously this exludes the Pixar films.

With estimates that the move take overall is down anywhere from 7 to 10 percent this year from last, I would say not bad at all.

Second best for a Disney animated film....films like Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Signs, and Pearl Harbor all made more on their OWs.

BTW, actuals came out earlier today --- $40,049,778 is the number (original estimate: $40,086,000).

this movie was so disgusting. Walt would be ashamed. They should of done more with the ending wich was the only semi decent part of the movie. Disney animation is just keep on getting worse and worse. Will we ever see the good old days of te musicals again, or atleast phil collins. alright im out im so glad i was a kid in the ealry 90's with some of the greatest animated films of all time. Disney just needs to realize Pixar is the the new Disney in animation, isnt that kind of ironic though lol

The boys and I thought it was pretty funny. I liked that they threw in a bunch of gags for adults - Runt's fascination with 70's disco and pop music, the mayor's cue cards, the bickering between the alien's father and mother. There's a lot of clever stuff in there ("Okay, dodgeball. We'll just split the teams into Popular and Not-popular." Heh.)

The boys loved the alien's three-eyed Mickey watch.

This movie does not stack up with the best of Pixar, but it's certainly on par with their second-tier films.

According to showbizdata.com, Chicken Little made a very impressive estimated gross of 11.4 million on its second Friday! That's right, it actually made more on its second Friday than it did on its first. That number is partially attributable to the fact that Friday was veteran's day, but it also looks like this Chicken will have great legs in its second weekend. Chicken Little easily beat second place Zathura, with 5.3 million, on Friday.

With a nice boost today it should be able to land a weekend number of $30m+....could even reach $40m once again.

The little one and I went to see it again in 3-D and it was awesome. I was very impressed with the quality and the difference between "Real-D" and traditional 3-D. It is worth seeing this in 3-D.

Well after pulling 11 million on Friday, CL is definately going to be a big hit. Easily over 100 million and possibly over 150. That would be a huge victory for Disney.

pretty crazy that the 2nd Friday was better than the first....word of mouth must be better than the out-of-touch critics reviews

It really does say that word of mouth had to at least be decent for the film, otherwise it would have dropped.

I never stay away from a movie because of reviews. And hopefully none of you do either. If there is a movie you want to see, go see it no matter the reviews. If I just listened to critics all the time, I'd miss out on alot of my favorite comedies and action movies (usually the two genres that are treaten most unfairly by major movie critics).

most critics only like boring films that are up for oscars

Weekend estimates are in....

1 1 Chicken Little BV $32,026,000 -20.0% 3,658 +4 $8,755 $80,774,000 - 2

I do expect a drop somewhere in the range of 40-50% next weekend though (which is expected of course because of HP4 --- many others are thinking the same thing)....

Estimates are out of wknd 2.....$32,026,000, down 32%

Not bad at all......better than most films as of late

The bigger news of note is that the movie is now in the black.....it has made back its money.....so WDFA is "profitable" again....not something that has been happening in the last 5-7 years too often.

Chicken Little
#1 $40,049,778
#2 $32,026,000
Diff -20%

Madagascar
#1 $61,012,130
#2 $28,110,235
Diff -40.5%

The Incredibles
#1 $70,467,623
#2 $50,251,359
Diff -28.7%

Shrek 2

The second weekend for Chicken Little was very impressive. Boosted by the Veteran's day holiday on Friday, it garnered about 5-10 million more than most analysts predicted, indicating strong word of mouth for the film.

I finally saw it yesterday. I'd certainly recommend it as well. Its a cute and funny film. The animation is certainly up there with the best of Dreamworks and the beginnings of Pixar. For Disney's first film using this medium, I was impressed. I'll agree with the critics that the story is a bit weak, but it was harmless fun and a good time was had by all. In general, all the kids in the audience seemed to eat it up. Very few of them climbing on their seats or going to the bathroom during the film. If they're bored, there are all over the place

I expect it to fall next weekend against Harry Potter. Although it won't deter any of the fans, HP's PG-13 rating may turn some parents of younger children away from the film and steer more parents with young kids toward Chicken Little. By the end of next weekend, I anticipate Chicken Little being very close if not crossing the 100 million dollar mark. The film should see an additional boost over the Thanksgiving day holiday. I'd say a domestic total of 150+ million isn't out of the question seeing how it fared this weekend.
