Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

The Tangled boat ride can solve this whole mess before The Mom has to come in.

Flower, gleam and glow
Let your powers shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine

Heal what has been hurt
Change the fates' design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
What once was mine

So it's specifically about the song in the movie, not the ride itself? Similar to Splash Mountain situation?
My personal read is that, in the book (if you haven't read it), these Native American stereotypes definitely show up. Walt, et. al. doubled-down on these stereotypes when portraying the group in the film (most acutely in the aforementioned song), and this ride is a depiction of that portrayal.

Peter Pan and Wendy tried to remedy this a bit in its treatment of the Tiger Lily plot, but unfortunately the film wasn't great and had a very limited cultural impact.

I can say with confidence that this work is not to convert Hook into his Jude Law depiction.

For what it's worth, I love PPF. I don't necessarily find the representation awful and I'm not hoping or advocating that they remove them but it wasn't great in the movie. And I don't mean to stir anything up, I just find facile arguments to dismiss the possibility that past portrayals of minorities might be problematic to many people aggravating. Maybe I just should have kept my typing fingers in their holsters.

Thank you for stating it so well. Recognising why something may need to be revisited is not the same as being offended by it or campaigning for its removal.

My wife just staged Peter Pan Jr.

Publishers typically require you to perform a play exactly as written, with no leeway given for interpretation. MTI basically said ‘if you think this is problematic, feel free to change it.’

This is gonna sound like blasphemy but is it bad after watching Fantasy Springs I wouldn’t mind a complete clone of their Peter Pan? That ride while being screen based is just very well put together, I would love to see it stateside.

Ours is a classic no doubt, we just need to bring this ride up to snuff with the others. It could really use a few refreshments think Alice in Disneyland.

I'd be fine with getting rid of the ride entirely and replacing with a more modern Peter Pan ride (like they are doing overseas) or have something else entirely.

I’ve been on this board for years and don’t remember it being this much trolling happening.

Has the last decade in this political environment fried people brain cords or something?
IMO, it's more a result of online posting with no consequences, and a decline in polite, civilized, respectful, behavior.

BTW, this is just a single observation in response to a question - not the opening for an OT discussion.

A very regrettable us-and-them mentality has become the default for some people, especially online. We would get a lot further in these discussions if we remembered that we are talking to, and about, fellow human beings.

I just watched the Tokyo Peter Pan version - I can't believe people want to replace MK's absolute classic Peter Pan with that!
It's literally all screens. Kind of a mix of FOP and Soarin? I mean, maybe for a different, new ride with a different IP, but I think MK's version just needs some sprucing up.

Gosh, I hope that doesn't happen. Doesn't anyone love just physical sets anymore?

Flight of Passage and Soarin are both better rides than the OG Peter Pan's flight.

I'm not saying the OG Peter Pan's flight needs to go, but I also think it's had a good run and it wouldn't be the end of the world if it was massively changed. TBH I think the Haunted Mansion is the only Magic Kingdom ride I would be devastated to see go. Most of the other attractions I like, but am not so attached to that it would ruin the park if they were replaced with something else. I'd be fine with swapping out classic Pirates of the Caribbean with the version Shanghai has.
