Thanks for the news. I really wish they were adding fiber optics...maybe some other time:(
I think LED technology would be a better use on the castle. IMO fiber optics are not as high tech as in years past.

I have to say. I would not be opposed to having some gold accents like at TDL. It gives it a bit of an elegant look, and it is a "plus".
Yes, plussing would be great for the castle, especially since it's the main weenie at the Magic Kingdom.

Gotta love the Imagineering Field Guide.

man i remember when the cranes came in the last time, they said the crane would be in the down position during park hours but that wasnt true. It was an eye sore for anybody trying to take a picture of the castle, even worse for the people who were getting pictures that were taken by cast members on main street USA. I think there are pictures of it in the archives of WDW Magic

EDIT: Found it,

Thanks for the news, I actually really liked these decorations. But, I will be glad to see it back to how it should be. Just bring on Epcots 25 already! They better do something amazing with Epcot. Argh.

Im getting married dec 5th and im having a photo shoot infront of the castle on the 8th. Will the painting be done by then as i dont want to pay all the money to have it ruined by work on the castle?

The crane that will be used is from my company, Sims Crane. Not important, I know, but it is exciting for me to know that the company I work for helps to maintain/build the magic. I dispatch for the Miami Branch, and of course Disney rents from the Orlando facility, but it is the same company nonetheless.

Regardless of budget cuts, etc, Disney, or Disney Worldwide Services I should say, still spends quite a hefty penny for their construction needs. They are one of the only companies that will rent equipment and just keep it year round, regardless if it is in active service or not. Disney wants quality, and they want it exactly when they need it, no waiting lists or scheduling conflicts to cloud their sky. We also have a huge plaque Disney sent to the company for our immediate and effective assistace after Hurricane Charley. Its very nice, and I want it whenever I leave here...lol.

Another interesting tidbit is the invoicing for the completed projects. The company lists each job by its attraction/area name, etc. Example: "SPLASH MTN REFURB" "EPCOT GERMANY" "MGM TOT" "MONORAIL" "E EVEREST". WE actually had one large crane tip over during Everest construction. No one was hurt and the equipment was only slightly damaged, but an interesting tidbit nontheless.

I would post the invoicing, but its huge and I don't think anyone is all that interested to see it anyway. Anyway, enough babbling. :p

That sounds pretty interesting to me, thanks for sharing. :)

I agree with others, I like the gold trimmings a lot...but I guess it won't be a big deal once they're gone. It would be cool to see them around the park.

Oh yes we have plenty of pics that year with the crane in back of the castle....oh so pretty....I don't really care though......it's disney..... I told my soon to be 6 year old what was going on with the castle and she wanted to know if they were going to make it look like the cake again....I informed her that...um..no....Although I really enjoyed it looking like that( I knew it was temp and it would go back to normal after the year) but many people hated it....she just could'nt understand why...lol

I really enjoyed the gold decorations on the castle currently. Any number of them that can be kept would be nice. I do think that the forced perspective is ruined by the massive clock and characters though so I will be fine letting them go. Wish we were keeping some of the characters as accents though, they are fun.

I also hope that MK won't have to deal with nearly the amount of scaffolding that TKDL had to! :brick: It practically hid the castle.

Thanks so much for posting those pics though for those of us that haven't seen the repainted castle in Tokyo!!

I actually enjoyed the HCOE decorations on the castle (minus that big ugly mirror that only worked half of the times I saw it). I'm okay with all the trimmings coming down, though. The classic look will make future "plussing" look better. Of course, that's as long as any future "plussing" doesn't include a pepto-bismol pink color. :lookaroun Who approved that idea anyway?

I'm not familiar with the "Tokyo castle treatment" a few of you are speaking of. Can someone explain that?

I kind hate to see the decorations go. It made the castle look really nice. The mirror, yes, but not the rest of the decorations. I'll get used to it, but its one of those things you hate to see go. Maybe the golden characters will end up in other places around the park. :lookaroun

The heart of the Park, Cinderella Castle went through the first in a series of renovations from April to June 2006. New blueish and gold paint was added to the spires. Also, a tinge of brownish color replaced the light blue of the upper walls of the Castle. The lower bricks are now a darker, almost brown color. This is part of long-term renovation and internal remodeling of the Castle in preparation for the Park's 25th Anniversary celebrations beginning in early 2008.

Thanks STR8FAN2005.

That looks amazing. I wonder if they would ever change Cinderella castle in FL or if they are doing it to distinguish the two castles. That is a fantastic look, and I wouldn't mind seeing it in FL.

You have too use Scaffolding in the Tokyo Park because there is an elevated walkway on both sides of the castle for the Castle Tour walkthough ride that used to take you into the dungeon and showcased the Villians.

You cant take a Crane up ornate stairs or have it extended safely when your about 20 feet minium from the Castle Walls on both sides.

Also its not a brownish color, Tokyo's Cinderella Castle is one of the most realistic recreations of an actual Castle Disney has ever done. The outer wall is actually a defensive perimeter and would not have been polished or decorated in the middle ages past having Knights banners and Coats of Arms posted on it. The inner Castle is actually quite beautiful.

How do they paint the castle without putting scaffolding up? And I really don't like that brownish color at the base of the Tokyo castle.
