Cars Land, Star Wars Land, Monstropolis...

Here is what I was told:

1. The part of Cars Land that goes underground was the problem.
2. They where going to do it anyway without that part.
3. Stop Everything - Disney purchased Star Wars

Hmm. The underground portions of the ride and the huge amount of excavation that happened in the sandy Anaheim soil and bedrock prior to construction makes more sense than just "the rockwork is too heavy".

You can see from this Cars Land photo that the outdoor section of Radiator Springs Racers track goes through several elevation changes up, down, around, into underground caverns, etc. I imagine that level of engineering on soil that is very moist and less than stable adds all sorts of challenges and changes to scope and scale.

Whatever the issue was, or is, it stopped Cars Land development for DHS in its tracks (pardon the pun) a couple years ago. So now we just wait for a Star Wars announcement for both coasts instead?

As long as it's built above ground, there would be no problem. There would be no reason why the soil couldn't be built up rather than dug down.

Right now there's not much news for DHS, but I was trying to be polite by saying "both coasts".

The rumors on Disneyland websites have been talking about a big Star Wars Land project coming to Anaheim for the past year or so. And then last month WDI re-assigned a well regarded executive Imagineer, Scott Trowbridge, to head up a brand new "Star Wars Design Studio" and simultaneously put him newly in charge of the Disneyland Resort's entire Imagineering portfolio.

There was no mention of WDW in Scott's executive move to the Star Wars and Disneyland projects, but something is definitely up for Anaheim in a galaxy far, far away. http://www.wdwmagic.com/other/walt-...-to-new-dedicated-star-wars-studio-at-wdi.htm

So much for me trying to be polite and include WDW wishful thinking.

Getting back to one of the excuses why Carsland wasn't built in DHS.. Some people claimed the land couldn't hold it... Carsland included fake rock structure... If fake rock structures were going to add too much weight on top of everything else, then what else could they have done? Cardboard cut outs, like the backdrops of Streets of America...

I am a civil engineer and without doing a full soil study of the area, my guess would be it should be possible to build the fake rock structures at Hollywood Studios. I base this on other stuff already constructed in the area. They do it all over Hollywood Studios and the rest of Walt Disney World. I can also tell you that digging down into the earth at Walt Disney World will not work. That is the reason the at the Magic Kingdom the "underground areas" are really at ground level and most the park is at the second level. You could do that with cars by building the underground portion at ground level, but the amount of fill need to bring everything else up to your new "ground level" for the ride would be cost prohibitive.

Wait until the opening of Diagon Alley for any news on further expansions of any WDW park. WDW and UO have been making big announcements simultaneously in a "hype battle". It would make sense for when HP opens WDW lets UO know they can enjoy their victory for a few years before its back to the drawing board.

If I remember correctly...
Universal Ride Reservation System, Disney announces MM+.
Monstorous Summer, UO confirms Diagon Alley.
Fantasyland Expansion, Avatar and HP1 ran around similar time frames

Jedi Knights save the day. Again. It's a pattern.

I don't think a DHS expansion is that hard! Sure, I'm probably going to sound like one of those annoying posters in my post that say things along the lines of disney being cheap and dream too big, but here i go!

Like many said, Star Wars Land is an absolute no-brainer, and I'm sure disney is realizing that. The only problem is that, with the way the park is built, they can't construct anything without closing down so much permanently and for the time being, and the parks hasn't enough to do now. I'm not going to get into my ideas for that because this post will be long enough without and I'm not a huge fan so probs wont have the best ideas.

So, assuming Star Wars takes 4-5 years with planning and construction (yes i'm looking at you Pandora), we are gonna need some place else to go to occupy us.

While I don't know of course whether or not Indy will be part of SWL, I think a great replacement of at least most of the area would be an Indiana Jones River Rapids type ride, because a) It would be a great addition as a "background" ride and follow the theme of experiencing classic hollywood, and b) DHS needs a water ride! Who wouldn't love to go there mid afternoon on a hot florida day and take a river ride to get wet!

For the little girls appeal, perhaps replacing Little Mermaid with Frozen or Tangled, either special effect show like it is now or a dark ride.

Moving up to Pixar Place, my last stop. How about a ratatouille themed swing ride on the way to TSMM to catch some of the crowd? Or in Studio 1, an Up dark ride, peter pan style, or a crush's coaster like ride (except with a different theme becuase there is already so much nemo in the parks- Incredibles anyone? it could coincide with the rumored sequel in a few years).

Thats all, sorry for the long post, thanks to everyone who read it all! Nods to everyone with similar ideas and thoughts!:)

Good thoughts. Personal opinion is that Indy belongs in Adventureland or even better DAK. As for a water ride at the studios, Ratatouille had a fun water scene.

Yah i thought of that too, it was pretty fun!:) the only problem with it was that in the storyline of the movie, that happens at the beginning, so the rest of the ride there is really no build up to the thrill

Heading for the great escape.
Thanks. My best guess is that I do not suffer fools. So to them I am a villian.

Just to conclude my participation in the thread, I'd like to see Monstrpolis, mini Carsland and Star Wars Land at DHS. (Removal of Indy to do so). And expansion pads established for Pixar franchises in the future on the grounds of the Back Lot tour. Something like that. And I do like the rumor that the GMR might yield to a SW attraction someday.

Still trying for martyrdom. Your no villain , just a sad no mark who never actually goes to WDW, yet talks as if your an integral part of the management structure. Still waiting for the owner of the rusty star to deliver arent we?

As for suffering fools, I think you've got the roles reversed.

as usual, at not with.

I agree with this entirely. It would be interesting to see if WDW took advantage of their Star Wars Weekend in 2014 to announce something concerning Star Wars coming to a Disney Park or Parks - I believe that the full intent of acquiring this IP was to have this integrated into Disney Parks World Wide.

Can just see it now - Mark Hamill on stage with Tom Staggs and some other Disney head honchos, officially announcing that "Star Wars Land will begin construction in 2016 at [enter park name here]!" However, after seeing how they officially announced Avatar progress - D23 in Japan with Cameron taped at his mocap stage 'down under' for a park in Florida - it would almost make too much sense if they announced a major Star Wars expansion for DHS during a Star Wars Weekend with Luke Skywalker in DHS.

It seems so simple to me but I can either see this as a major missed opportunity or it will be bungled horribly. I find that as far as their salesmanship is concerned, they either stink at it or don't really care that much. Their entire marketing department should be replaced in my opinion. They have forgotten the true art of the sale. This is the type of announcement that should be handled in grandiose fashion, but I won't be holding my breath.

The only thing that I am truly positive about at this point is that Trowbridge is the creative mind driving this project.

Perhaps instead of trying to recreate the story scene for scene (in the manner of PPF or LM etc) these hypothetical ride vehicles could be diverted into an entirely new set of adventures. Just a suggestion since PN :hungover: thinks I am integral to management.
