Captain EO is coming back to EPCOT in the end the year!

And then there is this quote from the Disneyland Spokesman that was in the OC Register newspaper a couple days ago, in a story about Tokyo Disneyland adding Captain EO to their park this summer...

Disney brought back the movie to Anaheim as a limited engagement, but no end date has been announced. Now, the film is scheduled to stay at least through summer and fall, said John McClintock, a Disneyland Resort spokesman. “It’s been popular enough that it will continue to run,” McClintock said.

The EO theater plays to full houses at Disneyland (HISTA had been a ghost town for years), kids are wearing the t-shirts at local malls, and Tokyo Disneyland is now paying to add it to their park after studying the numbers from Anaheim.

It's apparently been a success, whether some folks like it or not.

Does this scare anyone else? especially if it were to come to WDW. "no end date in sight, Big success? etc etc. Wouldn't be surprised if EO overstayed it's welcome..

Unfortunatley I'm going to miss it by a couple of days, but I'm hoping that maybe they can get done a bit early. Even if not, this is a great day. This is a victory for all that have bought the retro EPCOT Center merchandise. Now we're getting to relive the memories of the golden era of that park for a short time. If I miss it this summer and it's still running in December, I'll definiitely be taking a Christmas trip now.

How exactly does The Seas With Nemo and Friends fit into FUTURE World? Unfortunately, EPCOT Center isn't around any more, but at least we've got a chance for something from the park's peak to come back for a short time. Again I can see why people don't want the show back. But I don't get the FUTURE World angle. It's only that in name now really.

Future World does not exist anymore. People tried to argue me on this a while ago, but I stand by my declaration that it doesn't make a lot of sense to have Tomorrowland and Future World in the same resort area. I recognize that Future World is mean to be a more scientific approach to the Future, while Tomorrowland is meant to be (and has turned into) Futuristic Fantasyland.

Having said that, th Project Gemini name of Discoveryland makes far more sense for Epcot right now.

I for one am excited that EO is returning. I liked the show back in the day and it'll be nice to see something newish becoming to Epcot. We got nothing from the whole Summer Nightastic thing until now.

It also means the at least temporary death of HISTA, which brings joy to my heart. I never liked that show and it needed to die 5 years ago. Now it's going away for at least a little while, hopefully forever.

I agree. Although I must admit, HISTA really isnt that bad. I'm just glad EO is returning as I never saw it while it was there. It probably isnt good like many people have said, but it will be more popular than HISTA currently is. This community we make up is just the minority of WDW visitors. I realize not very many people here are enthused about the show returning, but I think the general public will be.

So the headline is:

Honey I Shrunk the Audience to be replaced by Captain EO.

And eventually, Honey I Shrunk the Audience will again replace Captain EO.

Does anyone else find this insane? What decade is this??

Let's replace a tired old show with an even older show, with the intent of eventually bringing the initial tired old show back.

For me, Eo will have overstayed his welcome when he shows up.

But I think by the time we get rid of Eo, he will have overstayed his welcome with a lot of the people foaming at the mouth now.

I can't wait for all the "What the heck was that?" threads that are bound to start popping up when some of the younger folk see Eo fo the first time.

(Warning: It's really bad. One might even say stupid.)

Oh, I don't know. Once the sale of EO-related merchandise starts to become a mere trickle.....

ANd TDO will do what they are famous for, look at the $$$ it would cost to switch back to HISTA and they won't, So that either leaves EO or the theater will sit empty.

I'm sure they could use it for special events. Just look how well that's gone over for the WoL bulding..... :brick:

Yea and the idea that they needed extra room for these events is the biggest and dumbest excuse I have ever heard.
While closing down WoL was not the best way to procure this extra space, as a guest who has been partaking in specifically the Food and Wine festival for the past 8 years in a row, I can tell you that they were busting at the seams in the hallways of Innoventions.

You can blame the implementation of the festival expansion, but the need for more space, at least to the casual observer that I am, was a legitimate concern.

To my knowledge other areas of Epcot are also being used as well (Odyssey for various chef demonstrations, Millenium Villiage for Party for the Senses).

To be completely honest, now that WoL has no hope of coming back, I wish they would do more with the building to make it fit the themes of the festival center it is. Right now it is very obvious that it use to be something else neither related to food or wine.
