Captain America 4

I maintain the belief that Falcon and the Winter Soldier would have made a better Captain America 4 than Brave New World. Overall, I think Falcon and the Winter soldier had a better overall story and actually had strong supporting characters, which Brave New World lacked. I think it would have also helped Thunderbolts* if Bucky’s continued journey post brainwashing and the introduction of John Walker were shown theatrically rather than on a streaming show.

Aren’t most superhero movies pointless?

I thought showing the effects of racism across generations elevated this one a touch, even if the rest was just as pointless as most lol.

Not my cup of tea. But the spy thrillers never have been.

I found that was just the Falcon and Winter Soldier plot line brought forward. It didn’t have much new to say. Kind of just felt like episode 7/8.

Agree. The new Falcon was pretty good. He was much more interesting than new Cap.

Like I said, good action movie, bad Captain America movie.

Anthony is pretty charismatic and I don’t suppose I need all superheroes to be “super”, but he doesn’t have much going on for him. Which is a bit of a disservice, really.

He sort of just floated through the movie and really had no personal character development. It was mostly just Ross, but Ross didn’t even really change from the beginning to the end, more his new philosophy on life was nearly kiboshed.

I’m not even sure if the movie concluded he was better off having no true power, because he himself voiced jokingly at the end that he should.

That’s what I meant by pointless for Tony. Very limited character development.

So then there was no point in making it then?

Yup. This one was pretty skippable.

Bucky’s single plot update will surely be repeated at the start of Thunderbolts*. They are mining adamantium from the Eternals island thing (which was in the trailer).

They want Anthony to remake the Avengers, but he didn’t even seem to reach that conclusion. A character says Avengers: Doomsday is being made, stay tuned! Ross is in Prison, but also who cares? I guess he’s back for Avengers.

Otherwise they introduced two new characters that are mildly fun. A new Falcon and another Red room agent.

These are Disney’s only movies that I think will be bombs this year, everything else looks like it’ll be a hit, sleeper or big, even Pixar’s Elio.

The one I think is a big risk though that could flop if not received well by critics if they choose to only focus on its lead actor but not every other strong thing about it is Tron: Ares starring Jared Leto.

Hey, I’ve always said Disney’s two underperforming or failed films for 2025 will be Cap 4 (even if it looks like it might barely breakeven on that $180M budget w/ $425M worldwide) and Snow White (which will for sure be a bomb and lose Disney $115M).

And that’s what I’m gonna stand by.
Ironic that’s the only two released so far, Oracle 😳

I’m ok with that, we’re seeing the lines blur between TV and films - but I disagree. They needed to focus on set up, he was learning from the older guy who used to be on Cagney & Lacy (🤣) and wrestling with whether or not to take the serum (plus dealing with red hulk.)

I don’t watch a movie and think, “Where is the character growth?” Like it’s checking a box. A superhero movie is like a rollercoaster ride; it doesn’t need to be deep. I either enjoy it or get bored. I was so bored with the first Captain America movie that everyone liked. I enjoyed the new one. I don’t have to know why.

But I think there is a huge lesson in ignoring what makes a particular IP popular in the first place and trying to make it something it is not
Mario is a great example. It was just Mario. They didn't really care if you didn't know it or didn't like it. They made it for the fans of the games, plain and simple. They could have very easily changed it but they made the smart choice and played to the audience.
