Cameron has given the OK ...

I agree. I think they need to be a little more aggressive. They should have plans for something major in every park leading up to the 50th...

I hope they do. Pandora and Cars Land/door coaster is a nice start, but I hope they have more additions to all the parks in the next decade. I'm hoping that once these big projects are fleshed out in the next few months or so, that they move on to bringing something new to Epcot. And they definitely should be bringing in at least one killer new e-ticket to MK for the big anniversary.

There are already two Rainforest Cafes on property (DAK and Downtown Disney). I could see them transforming Rainforest Cafe at DAK into Pandoran themed... with the bioluminesence...

and neither is owned nor operated by Disney.. kind of hard for Disney to retheme something it doesn't operate/own :)

Not really. Beastly Kingdom is very "medieval Europe" while Avatarland would be more sci-fi. If they really wanted to, Disney could build Beastly Kingdom and Avatarland in the same park, and they would be perfectly compatible.
Yeah, I could see a "Europe" continent being built in DAK with a focus on mythical animals.

The Vekoma artwork looks fairly impressive. Vekoma estimates 900 people per hour per bay. Times four bays...this attraction will be a people eater!

900 people per hour per bay is interesting and much lower than I expected. I figured based on the images that are out right now that an 8 minute cycle time would result in about 1440 people per hour. The 900 people per hour per bay likely assumes a very short cycle time.

so im still confused, am i sposed to be excited aboot avatarland or not?
Most definitely yes, Avatarland is something that could be outstanding, if well executed.

At this point, the collective TWDC/TDO/WDI is on shaky ground at WDW. It's been a long time since WDW has had an unqualified success. Perhaps the most ambitious addition in the last 14 years, Expedition Everest (2006), has been marred by a major structural defect in its most important show element. Test Track (1999) has been nearly as big of a maintenance nightmare as 20K. Mission Space (2003) has not turned out to be the resounding success hoped for, making a considerable number of its riders ill. Toy Story Mania (2008) is fun but is a glorified video game that just as easily could be played at home. Most everything else added since DAK (1998) has been an attempt to spruce up old WDW rides or shows. WDW really could use a success along the scale of WWOHP.

No matter what you think of the movie, Avatarland has the potential to be WDW's first undisputed success in over a decade. However, everything depends on execution. Carsland shows that WDI is still capable of outstanding results. Working in conjunction with Cameron, can WDI turn Avatarland into a similar success and, equally important, will TDWC sufficiently finance them in this endeavor?

Per WDW1974's OP, it looks like the wheels are once again in motion. Let's see how this unfolds. Hopefully, all WDW fans will have reason to rejoice when the completed Avatarland is opened to the public.

As for me, I'm going to try to avoid being judgmental until I have had the opportunity to walk through the new land.

The "C Ticket" (boat?) and the "E Ticket" (sim) are two seperate attractions that partially share a ride building. They are currently the only two attractions on the Pandora menu.
The sim won't "take" you to Pandora, you'll be there as soon as you enter the land.

A coaster was considered, but not approved for reasons that are unclear.

If Cars Land moves ahead as planned, it wl gave its own budget, and isn't dependant on anything that happens with Avatar.
In as much as the spending at DCA didn't directly affect anything at WDW. Capital expenditures on large scale products are often contingent on one another. The likelihood that WDW was going to get major investment increased after the DCA makeover.

As a DVC member, and lots of posts here on this site seem to hate us, but we are WDW/DL Disney fans too.
I'm not loving the Avatarland thing, but I am loving the expansion at Universal. We haven't been in years to Universal, but will make an exception once it is completed. Yes, we'll be staying at our DVC villa, and probably rent a car to go off property. We're from CA, and already have enjoyed Carsland, and Mermaid, there is no reason for us to see a clone in FLA. other than to enjoy the different Mermaid queue. We'll go to Universal instead of eating a lunch or dinner at Be Our Guest in FLE, which is a restaurant version of the Belle/Beast Library exhibit at DCA's Art Of Animation building and gift store that's been around since DCA opened. The only new attraction would be the Mine Train for us, and that isn't opening for a few years.
I'm not looking for an arguement about WDW vrs DL, I'm looking at Disney vrs the competition here in CA, and FLA. We've been using our DVC membership exclusively in CA the last few years. Boiled down for a reason to go back to FLA in the first place is a mine train, or Hogwart's Express. One of them will get us back to our DVC in WDW, but which one?

That does sound better and the plans do certainly sound exciting. I did lke the FJ queue and the theming of the land was definetly top tier. However one thing I don't like is the reliance on video footage and projections Universal tends to make them too dark and grainy they should be bring and crisp and HD clear. Particularly the scene at the beginning of FJ where your flying with the kids on the broomsticks its very dark and doesnt look like im really flying with them it looks like im watching old movie footage.

I think the reason for that is because if the image was any brighter than it already is, the contrast between the brightness of the film and the low lighting of the show scenes would be so drastic that it might actually make you sick.

For myself, I'll have to say I'm excited. As I've gotten older, I realize more and more that we have very little control of most things in life. But I can choose my attitude, and I'd rather be excited, hopeful, and retain some of that childlike wonder that made me fall for Disney in the first place. I haven't been to UNI or IOA so I'm excited about that too. Sometimes it's hard being the glass half full kind of guy, but that's what I try to be. I've had real heartache in my life, and I know people who, because of circumstance, will NEVER be able to go to Disney, so I'm not going to get too upset that WDW doesn't build 100% of what I want. Raising prices, no direction (DTD), suffering maintenance, yes, I'll complain about that, but I promise, in the grand scheme of things, it will not make me miserable. If Avatar/Pandora is to be, then I'll be there to see for myself what it's like. I'm sure I won't be alone.

Ok, I'm finished.

Thank you @Beholder. Everybody should read this.
It shocks me to see so many people saying that they'll never set foot inside the land because it's not what they wanted. Talk about being old-hearted, grumpy and just plain sad. You can choose to have fun in life, but most people here don't seem to have that concept in their minds. So much for having Walt as an inspiration.. the one that made it possible for everyone to be a kid at heart.

I hear they're scrapping all Avatarland attractions entirely, and replacing them with an Avatarland themed carousel! :) Oh, and restrooms!

i believe with 4 pods that would be 3600 per hour but i could be wrong
