Haven't seen any game but part of game one...just can't bring myself to do it.
If I'm not mistaken, I heard the Bambino rolling in his grave last night.
:(

Why can't you bring yourself to watch the games? Pedro will probably be a Yankee next year anyways (gotta look on the bright side of things :) ).

If the Red Sox win this year...I'm gonna be pulling for the Cubbies next season........(after the Sox :lookaroun )

Pedro, in pinstripes? I may have to become a Mets fan...my brother would be so proud. Steinbrenner has called his Tampa pow-wow to discuss next year's team...so many names bantered about.

*lights candle* Please no Pedro for NY. :brick:

Brian, to be honest, my heart wasn't in baseball this year. I watched very few games.

Actually, that was my stomach. I ran out of snacks after the fifth inning. :slurp:

Ya know, Brian, I'm not sure if Pedro would want to leave Boston so quickly after this season since he's sure to realize the good thing he has with the team. Unless he asks for crazy money (not like baseball salaries aren't already too high) he may want to stay. I know he was irked when the club didn't want to talk about an extension earlier this year but unless the Yanks make tremendous changes he may not find the grass so green over theah.

It's not that he wants to leave...per se.

He has already come out and said IF the Red Sox won't resign him, then he has to go wherever the best option is for him. It's up to the Sox if they want to pay his salary.

Scott...that was Amy Grant. (I believe she's married to Vince Gill)

She was a Christian singer at the beginning of her career.
Like I said, I was at work, so we had the game on the radio in Electronics. The problem was, I was on the other side of the store. So I keep calling a guy in electronics on our two-way radios and he keeps giving me updates. At the 7th inning stretch, he puts his radio to the radio and tells me to listen to this woman who is singing. He didn't know who it was, but I knew immediately that it was Amy Grant (or so I thought). He couldn't believe that I could that it was her.

Is this still a bad dream? I keep expecting the Red Sox to rip off their "fake" faces and it be the Yankees underneath. Manny pulls off his mask--it's Sheffield! Damon--it's Jeter! Pedro--it's Rivera! Epstein--it's Cashman!

Seriously, Boston has played unbelievable the last 9 days and hats off to them. I thought they would not have enough emotionally after the ALCS, but they have proven otherwise. So, seeing how I don't expect lightning to strike twice in the same playoff season (or century), congratulations to the Red Sox and their fans. Let's put the curse to bed.

P.S. Please don't say I just jinxed them..... :)

It won't happen, but you know it's in the back of your head!

This is the Red Sox...of COURSE it's in the back of my head!

Schilling is slated for Game 6...but Arroyo is ready to go if Schilling can't make it out.

Game 4: Derek Lowe
Game 5: Tim Wakefield
Game 6: Curt Schilling/Bronson Arroyo
Game 7: Pedro Martinez

Who says Terry Francona isn't a good coach?
(OK, I'll admit it...he made some bonehead calls during the season and I was a Terryhater...but I was wrong, looking at how he set the pitching up for the World Series erases all bad thoughts in my mind)

Give Schilling credit...pitching with his foot stitched together so it would work, the man wants to win. *thumbs*
What he has done is phenomonal. I just hope he hasn't done long-term permanent damage to himself with the procedure they used.

Which leads to an ethical/moral question: If you had the guarantee of winning the World Series or Super Bowl, but would die within a year, would you do it?

I've heard this question put another way before of being the best in your sport or making $15 million in a season, but you would die within a year, would you do it? Amazingly, more than 50% that answered said they would take the accolades and give up their life.

Who's taking credit away from him? More players should be like him!

*cough Nomar cough*

Sorry, I think Nomar is a fantastic baseball player, but he truly was the man bringing the Red Sox down this year. If you watched him in the dugout or listened to him in interviews...you knew he wasn't part of the "team" or "family." (Not all of his fault...discussions of letting a player go that has given his all to the team will do that to a person).

The turning point of the season was after the trade. Cabrera put in at shortstop (better that Nomar IMO), Pokey Reese for defense at second, and Dougy Doug for defense at first. 3 Gold Glovers in the infield for the price of Nomar...not a bad trade

The Red Sox may look like a group of ragamuffins but they have one thing that many teams don't have...ONE HEART.
They never get down or count themselves out...and they'll fight til the finish no matter they have to do or who has to step up.

(Who would've thought that Mark Bellhorn would be the big hero in a World Series game?)

Wasn't saying you weren't giving him credit, I was admiring him. How many people who do what he has done?

Scott, you question is a good one. These guys play for the love of the game (most of them anyway), winning the series & making the Hall of Fame is the ultimate goal; I'm suprised that the percentage wasn't higher.

Oh I know Mad

Scott, I bet a LOT of pro-hockey players would have a REALLY tough time answering that one...the Stanley Cup isn't just a trophy...it's like the "One Cup To Rule Them All."

World Series have been won multiple times by many teams and recently (with the exception of a few...Chicago, Boston, etc.). Super Bowl victories are hard to come by (heck, some teams haven't won ANY).

So, to answer your question...if I was playing a specific sport and it was my whole life (no family, etc.)...then yes, I'd sacrifice my life in order to win it all. If I did have a family, then there are more important things than sports (remember, it's not a life...it's a job to some people).

It's NOT????

last night I seriously wondered if Suppan didn't pull a Black Sox trick and receive money under the table to throw the series...or if Ettinger (spl?) was somehow involved. It was all just a horrible dream...but no it was REALITY TV...which is in fact a horrible dream!

I want to thank Seano for this terrific thread. The joy it has brought me lately has been immeasurable.

And Sean, wherever you are...you can rest easy in the knowledge that your prediction has finally come true. It took a little longer than you probably expected, but the Red Sox are now officially, finally, and most definitely DONE.

I'm sure mere words cannot express your joy.
