Buena Vista Street (2012)

This photo is also interesting due to the turnstile entry hostess who is standing in the foreground. Al Lutz has said that brand new Main Entrance uniforms are coming to these CM's in early November. Those blue trousers with the tan/red shirts and jackets have been in use since around 2000, when the Disneyland Resort was getting ready to open DCA in early '01.

It's time those dated 12 year old turnstile uniforms went to Yesterland.

The new costumes might look familiar.

Al Lutz has a new article today in which he details the extensive marketing campaign that Disney will launch next year for the DCA relaunch. He claims the campaign will be as big, if not bigger, than DL's 50th!

Lutz also provided some hints about the new entertainment that will be featured in Buena Vista St.:

Once it does all open sometime next summer with three main entertainment offerings, the new musical group Five and Dime will roll down the street in an old 1920’s jalopy and set up their five-piece jazz band along the street. The “dime” in the band’s name comes from the girl-singer who is being cast as a young Ella Fitzgerald type fresh off the train from Chicago who will perform all the standards of the 20’s and 30’s. The Friendly Sisters are a roaming girl group, with obvious references to The Andrews Sisters act of the 1930’s.

And finally there’s the Buena Vista Street News Boys, that Newsies knockoff show that will use the Red Car Trolley as their main prop. The News Boys will be joined by an additional newsie in the form of News Boy Mickey Mouse, who will feature the new talking and blinking headpiece for both the musical act and the sidewalk meet n’ greets after the show. The talking Mickey Mouse is slowly being phased into all the American parks, but this should be the first appearance of talking Mickey in a close-up meet and greet situation.

Minnie Mouse will appear around the corner in Condor Flats, in a new musical show called Minnie’s Fly Girls that plays up the new fad of retro stewardesses made popular by ABC’s Pan Am.

^ I'm excited to see the entertainment! I would love even more if we got something similar to DHS's Citizens of Hollywood.

Hmm.... Those aren't just gas pumps, they are vintage Chevron gas pumps. I had assumed they were for something in Cars Land, but I suppose they could also be for Oswald's (the service station on Buena Vista Street).

Here's where I'm going with this... I have been to Club 33 two times in my life, both times as a guest of a good friend who is kind of a big-wig for Standard Oil of California. Standard Oil is the parent company of Chevron, who now uses the Chevron brand as their public face and branding for service stations up and down the West Coast, although there are still a couple of Standard Oil stations in SoCal to keep the copyright valid. That's in addition to being the sponsor of Autopia, Presented by Chevron in Disneyland's Tomorrowland.

Anyway, I wonder if I might bug this old friend for info on why exactly Chevron has branded and themed old-fashioned gas pumps going in to the new DCA somewhere? Will they be the sponsor of Radiator Springs Racers? Will they be a sponsor of Buena Vista Street? Or did they just chip in some minor bucks to also get their name into the new DCA, to mirror their corporate presence next door in Tomorrowland at Autopia?

An interesting development... a big, deep-pocketed oil company is paying to have some themed branding somewhere in the new DCA for 2012. I wonder what that might mean? :lookaroun

On this cold (for SoCal) winters morn, an interesting note has appeared sometime overnight from Al Lutz over on Miceage...

EDITOR’S NOTE 12/9: Imagineers are delighted with plans to deliver the first Red Car Trolley to DCA's backstage trolley barn this weekend... - Al Lutz

Another new ride for DCA arrives, and an important part of Buena Vista Street! I wonder how long we'll have to wait before the first spy shot of this new attraction vehicle from Mickey's Fun Wheel?

....This Friday the remaining tarps covering the Carthay Circle Theater are scheduled to be removed, revealing the iconic tower and more details of this impressive building. -Al Lutz

Yeah, so where are the pictures?!? :D

All the tarps have now come down off of the Carthay Circle Theater. This is a BIG building! Still lots of roofing tiles, awnings, light fixtures and wrought iron details left to be applied, but you get a pretty good idea the direction it's going here.

On the opposite side of the walkway around Carthay Circle, there's massive structural work going on for the east side of Buena Vista Street. Here is the new Elias & Co. department store going up.

IMG2874-XL.jpg

Meanwhile, from outside the park looking in, the skyline of the west side of Buena Vista Street is going up.

IMG2694-XL.jpg

And at the opposite end of the western half of Buena Vista Street; Clarabelle's Ice Cream Parlor and the Fiddler, Fifer And Practical Cafe restaurant complex now has a distinguishable roofline.

Wow, so much progress! ...and so much more to go. It's all looking great though. Looks very much like they are definitely getting this one right this time around. Looking forward to next summer!

Work has really kicked up on the project and you can really see the outlines of the new facades very clearly.

A look from the Monorail, you can see the Red Car Trolley tracks being installed, as well as curbs, and more detail for the facades. Such an improvement over Sunshine Plaza.

Buena Vista Street sure does frame beautifully with the Pan Pacific entrance.

More Monorail shots but this time the northern half are great. You can see the Red Car Trolley tracks getting prepped for installation(near the "gazebo thing"), more trees planted(near the "gazebo and in the center of the street)
