Once it does all open sometime next summer with three main entertainment offerings, the new musical group Five and Dime will roll down the street in an old 1920’s jalopy and set up their five-piece jazz band along the street. The “dime” in the band’s name comes from the girl-singer who is being cast as a young Ella Fitzgerald type fresh off the train from Chicago who will perform all the standards of the 20’s and 30’s. The Friendly Sisters are a roaming girl group, with obvious references to The Andrews Sisters act of the 1930’s.
And finally there’s the Buena Vista Street News Boys, that Newsies knockoff show that will use the Red Car Trolley as their main prop. The News Boys will be joined by an additional newsie in the form of News Boy Mickey Mouse, who will feature the new talking and blinking headpiece for both the musical act and the sidewalk meet n’ greets after the show. The talking Mickey Mouse is slowly being phased into all the American parks, but this should be the first appearance of talking Mickey in a close-up meet and greet situation.
Minnie Mouse will appear around the corner in Condor Flats, in a new musical show called Minnie’s Fly Girls that plays up the new fad of retro stewardesses made popular by ABC’s Pan Am.
