We are reaching another major milestone in the ongoing expansion of Disney California Adventure park. On Monday, August 29, the Sunshine Plaza area will close to allow crews to start the transformation of the current park entry into Buena Vista Street, reminiscent of what Walt Disney encountered when he first arrived in California in the 1920s.
While the shops will close to make way for Buena Vista Street, guests will continue to enter the park through the new Pan-Pacific Auditorium-inspired turnstiles and follow a temporary walkway which will feature renderings of the future Disney California Adventure park and connect the turnstiles with the Condor Flats area. This area will be the temporary entrance and exit for guests during the transformation of the former main entrance stores to Buena Vista Street.
This entry and exit location will remain in place until Buena Vista Street opens in 2012. To see what’s in store when this area opens, take a look at the renderings below, which were shown this past weekend at the Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim

The street will open soon as well, to connect Condor Flats with Hollywood and the walkway to Blue Sky Cellar/Bugs Land(main entrance), it will be back to back walls with a walkway.

Well now Sunshine Plaza(what was left of it) has all now moved into Yesterland. When DCA reopens to guests today(Aug 29) they will still use the new turnstiles but make there way behind Soarin' thanks to the new walkway.

Heres one last look at some of the what is left for its final day.

Welcome to Disney California Adventure! :)

tweeted these photos of the new temporary entrance that opened today

Construction walls block the main entrance into the park and re-directs guests to the right, behind the Soarin' building:

The entrance corridor is lined with attraction posters and concept artwork:

Look closely at that wall above the poster. Which do you think came first; the tree or the wall?

This new temporary park entrance looks great! Kudos to the DCA team for so effectively battling a scenario no Disney theme park has ever had to deal with; the 18 month destruction and complete rebuilding of the main entrance complex at a daily operating theme park hosting 7 Million customers per year.

I'm sure that walkway will get crowded at Halloweentime and Christmas and on busy weekends, but darnit it looks great! Love the retro-new DCA Attractions Posters!

Job well done DCA!
:sohappy:

Mintcrocodile has an excellent look at the new walkway.

This is so much nicer than what was left of Sunshine Plaza in the past few weeks

After 7pm, gate 14 is open to help guests exit the park. Or continue to the Pan Pacific to hop over to DL.(exiting through the Pan Pacific will keep you from having to go through bag check again)

One more big change in the walls is still waiting the walkway near the Carthay. Look inside the former Greetings from California, everything in the window has been removed.

Just as expected a day later, another "detour" has opened in DCA this time giving us a look at the newly completed street/trolly tracks. As well as a closer look at the Carthay. Hmm I wonder if a parade can fit down this corridor of walls........

A look down to Hollywood, a view from here used to be from with in Sunshine Plaza's old planters.

Better look at the scale of the Carthay.

Behind us is Hollywood, directly to the left is the Carthay, the opening in the walls takes you to Bugs Land/Blue Sky Cellar area and beyond, the "pump house" follow the road again to Condor Flats, and the walls on the right is the new fountain.

Here's a really great YouTube video that has the complete walk-through of this bizarre temporary entrance for DCA, from the entry turnstiles to the point where you actually enter the park in Condor Flats.

And the jazzy music playing along the pathway in this video is the new Background Music that will be playing in Buena Vista Street when it opens next summer! I like it!

Whew...definitely a strange way to enter a Disney park. And I thought the walls at Epcot during the Leave a Legacy installation were bad!

As for the music, its nice but a little too up tempo for my taste (at least that particular piece was). I've always thought BGM should be slower and more relaxed with a tempo similar to the average walking pace. But, there were a few people moving to the beat so what do I know?

Please! Don't mention Leave a Legacy! Nice enough concept.. totally wrong place. That, along with the hat, need to go and the sooner the better. But sorry... I digress.

The music is definitely upbeat and energetic. I like it alright and it does fit the era of BVS, but somehow it didn't feel exactly right. Not sure I can really explain why.

From this week's Dateline Disneyland, a few new perspectives on Disney's newest theme park, Wall-Land USA... http://datelinedisneyland.smugmug.com/DisneylandResort/

The walls for BVS begin just inside Condor Flats, across from Taste Pilots Grill, likely to work on the new curb cuts and ground treatments that will need to extend in towards Condor Flats from the new streetscape beyond.

IMG1919-XL.jpg

Walking west out of Condor Flats, you enter the BVS plaza in front of Carthay Circle.
IMG1925-L.jpg

You make a right turn, and the walls lead towards the south.
IMG1928-L.jpg

Behind you is the old Streamliner depot area, covered in curtains as it gets demolished to become Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe.
IMG1945-L.jpg

Then you come to an intersection of sorts in front of the Carthay Circle Theater construction. To the left is the walled path towards Hollywood Blvd., and to the right is the walled path that leads past the Pump House and towards the back of the park.
IMG1955-L.jpg

To your left, past the Carthay Circle and towards Hollywood Blvd.
IMG2001-L.jpg

IMG2041-L.jpg

Or turn to your right, past the Pump House, to get towards the back of the park.

I think the Carthay is going to be amazing!!! And those posters of vintage Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and especially Snow White are just awesome!!!! It makes me think about a trip back in time, to those wonderful years when Walt was starting out and beginning to shine!

I'm already planning a Disney trip for next year...and I think it's gonna be Disneyland...

This should look quite nice once all is finally done. You can also see the overall shape of the Carthay's tower behind the green tarps.

Alright, the highest point is in place! Already you can see just how much of a weenie the Carthay is going to be from the turnstiles and esplanade; looks really nice.

Video of the cupola installation above the Carthay Circle Theatre:

Late Wednesday night, Walt Disney Imagineering topped the new Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure park with its crowning feature – a cupola modeled after the one which sat atop the historic theatre which was the site of the 1937 world premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” The Disney Parks Blog video team was on hand to catch some great footage of the cupola as it was raised into position on top of the theatre – take a look!
