Breaking News: Space Mountain Rehab

Why has no one stated that Universal's Lost Continent is changing to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter by 2010? They actually ARE going to be completely changing and adding a new land. They ARE improving their park, and leaving Disney in the dust. That 20 minute wait for Dueling Dragons won't exist anymore once Harry Potter arrives, because DD won't BE there anymore, and all waits will be extremely extensive. THEY are going to be changing, and Disney....... will maybe have an well-needed improved Space Mountain.... @_@

Umm...DD WILL still be there. Albeit under a different theme and (I'm guessing) name.

It's been mentioned, but the Universal haters keep brushing it off and saying it will actually help Disney and not Universal. Not only is Universal getting TWWoHP, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is opening this spring/summer.

Also, DD will remain structurally.

DAK is allegedly getting a new land someday...although it should have been built 10 years ago and with a different centerpiece.

While I'm no-where near a Uni hater. I do believe HP will help Disney by opening eyes that Disney is really lacking in exciting new attractions and kicking some butts into action.

Yup. Moment of silence for BK. But IF we ever get the proposed addition(which is probably a BIG if), I will be incredibly happy. I would've never thought MI would be seen in the USA. I just hope they change up those subs they have over there...I've heard they're really uncomfortable.

Well, I hope that too. My post wasn't directed towards that opinion.

Do you really trust that we'll be getting a proper Mysterious Island in addition to JTTCoTE? I wish I shared your optimism.

Personally I don't trust that we'll be getting anything at all. But the way I see it MI should be a packaged deal. W/o the lagoon and the subs, it just wouldn't be the same.

Now, I would be happy if we just got JTTCotE, but I would be a tad disappointed.

That would move DAK up a few notches in my book....if that happened.

If we get JTTCotE, it will have to have some sort of land accompanying it. I just hope it's done right and not on the cheap.

Personally, I don't think Joe would allow a half-arsed land. Zerka Zong is the best themed area of ANY of the parks IMO, and I would have faith in w/e they did for DAK...cuz well I have faith in Joe.

I would trade the entire DAK park for just Mysterious Island. I don't even need 20k. Journey is SO happy.

I'm not just Universal bashing here, because I couldn't be further from one of those "I like Disney so Universal automatically sucks" people, but a few things to add-

Dueling Dragons has a 20 minute wait because they almost never run the ride to full capacity and have some of the slowest, most unmotivated ride operators in the state of Florida. No matter how Universal wants to spin it, they are *not* getting a new land. They are retheming a piece of an existing land, and not even the entire existing land. There is no "new section" being added to the land. The only new real estate will be occupied by the ride's show building. All the paths and guest areas are part of the existing Lost Continent, just re-themed. It should still be nice to look at though.

I'm not sure if you're implying that Dueling Dragons will be removed, but as others have no doubt already stated by now, that is 100% false. The ride will be renamed, and the new name is not as cool as the current in my opinion. The queue will be extensively rethemed to remove all the skeletons and corpses. Sigh. The coaster will be unchanged (though possibly repainted, at last check that hasn't been determined.)

Flying Unicorn, which will be closed for almost the entire duration of construction due to its proximity to the new ride will also remain, with a very slight retheme and a new name as well. Unicorn's name won't be *quite* as dumb as Dragon's though, and it's true to the books.

Flying Hippogriff or some such, right?
Haven't heard Dragons' new name, likely Triwizard Tournament something or other...

If that's what it's called...that is a terrible name.:hurl:

Well, "The First Task" makes alot more sense than The Triwizard Tournament because the first task is specifically the dragon task. Now, you could call it The Triwizard Tournament: First Task, but that's a long name. They could easliy do attractions for the other 2 tasks as well. The 3rd task could end with the graveyard scene.

Oh, I know it fits. That doesn't mean it's not a terrible name for a ride.

Just for clarities sake, I was complaining about the 20 minute wait for Dueling Dragons because there was nobody there. I got in line for a seat in the middle (because my wife was waiting with our five-year old in the incredibly cramped and hard to find child swap dungeon...I mean waiting area) and there were a whole eight people in front of us. One train on each side running, and the employees taking their sweet time. I've never seen that at Disney (not claiming it doesn't happen). When we were at the Magic Kingdom there were about forty people in line for BtMRR in the middle of the day and they had both loading platforms running and four or five cars running.
In Universal's defense, the child swap area at Hulk was better and it was much better at the Mummy as well. Not sure why the one at DD was so blooming small. It was a broom closet. When I got in line there was my wife and daughter sitting in the two available seats. When I got back there were fifteen people crammed in and around the room. My wife wanted to ride but we weren't subjecting my daughter to another twenty minutes so we left. Since it takes about ten minutes to get to anything from that place we went to the next area.

Closure is 4/19/09, unless something happens before then (like at Disneyland).

Drat....I'll miss it. There's a high probability that I'm going to see the mouse on my birthday, May 1st but we won't be there before April 19th. I hate when major attractions are closed when I'm there.

On the other hand......yay for the upgrade! SM needs it!

Not to the millions of guests who don`t know or don`t want to know about HP - those just wanting to ride an attraction.
