Brazil to join the World Showcase at Epcot

A college buddy of mine who works behind the scenes at Epcot mentioned to me that their are plans in the works to add a Brazilian pavilion to the showcase. It will be located between Germany and China near the Outpost. The pavilion will take advantage of the lagoon there to make an Amazon boat ride through the jungle. He said they are also discussing having some sort of nightly Carnival to simulate Rio de Janiero. He said the official announcement will probably occur sometime in the coming months as they finalize sponsorship and the pavilion will most likely open in 2012.

I guess they are finally getting a country to represent South America and to also appease the large number of Brazilians that seem to visit the parks. This will just bring more of those packs of yellow shirted Brazilians chanting "Oleeee`, Ole, Ole, Ole!" or whatever that chant is that they do.

God I hope this isn't true :brick::brick::brick::brick:

You have a point there. When it come to monuments and architecture the only thing that really stands out would be the Christ the Redeemer statue. There are other areas that could be used but most are unknown to the average person. You never really look at a building and say "That looks like Brazillian architecture."

Eh, Canada never had architecture that said "That's Canada" either

This would certainly be news to me... And if it were to be announced, it would be announced at next year's D23 Expo, but I'm not holding my breath considering I've never even heard this before...
Yep.
News to me.
Brazil has been a potential pavillion for years, but I have never heard of it moving very far forward. Sounds like somebody took some old information and ran with it.

I really doubt there is going to be any announcement any time soon given D23 (is this now our yearly 'announcement time'? If so, maybe I can ignore the News and Rumors board until about August each year... Nah, probably not gonna happen). However, I disagree with anyone who says this is a bad choice. WDW gets a lot of visitors from Brazil, regardless of whether we loathe that, and it wouldn't surprise me if Disney sought to cater to this demographic a little more. Disney already has started making Brazil-oriented merchandise; I know a World Showcase pavilion is a bit more than some merchandise, but the rationale is the same: build what sells.

Granted, from my own selfish perspective, this wouldn't be my top choice for an addition to World Showcase, but I would give Disney the benefit of the doubt as to whether it could come up with exciting attractions and a compelling desing.

That said, I still don't think this is going to happen.

The reason most people call the UK Pavilion England, is because, it's sad to say, most Americans don't know that there's a difference between the UK and England.

And as for more representation of the other home nations..they all are represented! Scotland has it's heritage/tartan shop, Wales has the tea-caddy if I'm not mistaken...the Rose and Crown is a mixture of all pub styles, and if anything is more of an Irish pub on the in-side anyway...

you also forget the Scottish/Canadian band that play between the two pavilions. The problem is that for most, general UK culture equates to 'English', when in general it crosses all four nations. In reality, there is very little difference between England and the other home nations (save for psychological more than anything).

Busch Gardens Europe has separate areas for England, Scotland and Ireland. (Only Northern Ireland is part of the UK.)

WS includes countries from other continents so can't do Europe in the same detail as BGE.

Imagineers would handle the design of a Brazil pavilion the way they have all the other pavilions, a fusion of the architectural design styles of the country, rather than a single over-arching theme/landmark.

Brazil is noted for its baroque and colonial architecture, among others. Also, the country is noted for its many grand cathedrals/churches. I would guess they would fuse these styles, and incorporate other references to the natural beauty/resources of the country.

If it were to happen, of course.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a new stand at the Food and Wine Festival this year? Maybe the OP's friend misinterpreted some information? It would be cool to see a new pavilion in World Showcase though.

The UK pavilion is inspired by the whole of the UK. It doesn't represent, nor does it particularly strike me, as solely 'English'.

Besides, England itself, despite its relatively modest size, is quite diverse. The South East differs from Northumbria as much as Wales differs from Scotland.

In the English-speaking world, regional differences within the UK are well known. However, compared to many other countries present at the WS, the UK is rather homogenous. France, despite being politically centralized, has so many distinct regions that they barely resemble parts of a single country. As do the Italian regions. Germany is a federal state in the first place.

If anything, the UK pavilion does a better job of representing the diversity of the country than many of the other pavilions. Perhaps on a same level as Germany, which, like the UK, has a fine representation of geographically varied architectural styles. Italy, by comparison, is mostly Venetian. (What of Rome? Florence? The Mezzogiorno, Piedmonte?). France evokes mostly Paris, with a side street somewhat representing the provinces.

Ireland could have their own pavilion, only northern Ireland is united with the kingdom... the republic of Ireland is independent.... too bad Guinness could not sponsor it :lookaroun

They could have a water ride (it is world showcase afterall.. lol) where your going through, then you find mythical creatures who try to chase you away when you get too close to a leprechauns gold...
