Brazil Pavilion in Epcot?

I have a feeling that if they add it it will be done in a similar manor as the Eiffel tower. I do not think it will be a 70' tall center piece to the pavilion.

Has nothing to do with the height. Even though the statue of Christ the Redeemer is one of the most well known things in Brazil, Disney has to maintain a neutral stance on religion and I can see how some would not be happy about it. That's a battle that Disney would rather avoid.

I can't speak for everyone but as an atheist I would have zero issue with a Brazil pavilion having a Christ the Redeemer statue in it. It is an incredible work of art, landmark, etc that people identify with Brazil. Quite honestly I would be a little upset if they did not acknowledge this landmark in some way. Epcot is already filled with religious elements that fit this mold. Among those would be the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in SSE, A church in Norway, etc.

I wasn't being 100% serious about the Senna museum, it just seems like one of Brazil's biggest heroes.

The U.S. is getting an F1 race next year ;)

It could be just Brazilian F1 museum. Have a Massa wing with the spring from Barrichello's car that turned him into seemingly everyone sympathetic favorite. Have Bruno Senna's HRT car (sorry bad joke)

They do? This is the same park that has nativity scenes and a candle light processional at Christmas. While the statue may go farther than they desire, they do not have to maintain a neutral stance on anything, and have not always done so.

A statue that represents the country portrayed is not being non-neutral, anyway. It's putting up a replica of an actual statue.

(More accurately, they don't stand on one side of the fence, they try to stand on both sides of the fence at all times.)

I'll bet a large collection of youth on tour in a pretty fun environment can get loud and at times misbehaved (and it's large by its very nature). I don't think it's unique to Brazil, Brazil just has a lot of tour groups. Good for them.

Not saying all the complaints about Brazilian tour groups are off the mark, many are accurate. It gets out of hand here when every single mention of the country gets 20 responses about how horrible the tour groups are, but buried in those way-too-frequent-and-over-the-top posts is a kernel of truth. But I don't think it's a reflection of Brazil, I think it's a reflection of young people in a large group on vacation. Ever been to Grad Night? Same thing, just worse because there are more of them. And they are American.

The potential of a Brazil pavilion needs to be separated, completely, from the nature of Brazilian tour groups.

Thanks for saying this. I agree!

I agree. And as stated before, it's not like they would build a 70' replica. It would likely be forced perspective, as you would see it from the city / beach, so a tiny little statue on a small mountaintop, made to look off in the distance like Beast's Castle in FLE.

It's THE thing that pops to mind (at least my mind) when I think of Brazil first. Then the favela's, then Iguazu, and the Amazon. It seems like they could do a lot with this pavillion.

Quite true.

That's remarkable! I wonder what happened to the poor sap who approved that getting put out there.

For all the people that have posted unfavorable things about Brazillian tourists, do you have a concept of how poorly American tourists are viewed in places such as Europe? Our culture is not known for behaving well beyond our borders. Careful on the accusations and broad generalizations.

Good call. Something about making like a tree and throwing leaves in glass houses.

Approved what? The sign?

The whole park was full of them in 1982-3. Spain, Africa, The Seas, Life and Health, TRON Arcade... even the ride element of Imagination had one. They were really seen as coming soon at the time.

Given that Brazil is going to host the World Cup and the Olympics in the coming years, they do have a bit of reason to want to advertise, and well all those reasons why other countries wanted to be a part of World Showcase to begin with. Though there doesn't seem to be much time for that... unfortunately.

Hopefully Brazil would want in for reasons other than to promote the World Cup and the Olympics, as those two events often speak louder than any other sort of promotion they could cook up. It would certainly be a unique way to spice up the World Showcase, though I feel there are probably other countries more deserving of the spot.

Just as a side note, for those interested in this whole Brazil possibilty, check out the dvd "Walt & El Grupo." It makes you think about all sorts of things they could do with a Brazil pavilion after seeing footage from there (old and new). And with it being a Disney produced dvd, it somewhat feels like a Disney branded project already. Sorry if the dvd has already been mentioned posts back. But I just watched it and thought wow, it could be a great fit in World Showcase afterall.

I did have a concept for the Brazil pavilion where a Brazilian scientist would take you on a tour of Brazil aboard his latest invention. The name of the ride would be Professor Penna's Fantastic Skyway and would use the same ride system as Peter Pan's Flight.
