Boo to you and you and Whew... It’s too hot for a Halloween parade - A September TR

Hello friends and welcome to my September Trip Report! I’ve only been home a few weeks and I already miss Walt Disney World like crazy! I’m already going through withdrawals and searching for the possibility of any excuse to get back down to central Florida and to my favorite place on earth. Realistically, I’m thinking February or March 2013, but I would love to squeeze a trip in between now and then... Anyway, my last two Disney trips have been one extreme to the other - weather wise. I absolutely froze in December of 2010 and turned right around and melted in September 2011. But you know what? I LOVED every minute of it!

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=718898

Now, on to the details of this trip...

When did we go? September 15-25, 2011
Where did we stay? Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House
How did we get there? We drove 8 and 1/2 hours
Who all went? Just me and my beautiful bride
Why did we go? Our 3 Year Anniversary! (Not that we need a reason to go to WDW)
Any other details to offer up? We had 9 day park hoppers and were on the dining plan

I started planning this trip before we even went on our December trip! Talk about excitement! Planning and thinking about two Disney trips at the same time was awesome!! Of course, with every trip to the World, our plans changed many times... but here is my pre trip report/itinerary so you can see what I planned and compare it to what we actually did.

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=733892

We actually stuck to our plans, for the most part, at least until the end of the week. I was proud.

Ok, I stated earlier that on this particular trip, it was just me and my wife. Here we are...
First up, we have myself, Jon. Tar Heel born and Tar Heel bred. The planner and over the top WDW fanatic.

DSCF4369.jpg

Next we have my better half, my gorgeous bride, Brittany. The WDW veteran who loves Disney but doesn’t obsess about it 24/7 like her hubby...

DSCF4368.jpg

Man, she’s hot!!

Anyway, we had been looking forward to this trip for a long time for many different reasons. Since we walked out of EPCOT on that last night in December, we had been longing to get back! I was so pumped that I packed like a week before our trip! I NEVER do that. I’m normally a last minute packer. I was so excited because, yes, I love WDW, but also this trip was going to allow us to experience a lot of firsts. This trip would be our first trip with “just us”; this trip would be our first staying at a deluxe Disney resort; and this trip would be our first time being on the Disney Dining Plan! Wooo Hooo! We were excited! So excited, in fact, that I was up at the crack of dawn 180 days before our check in date to schedule ADRs! Needless to say, we got all the restaurants and times that we wanted. Our departure day couldn’t come fast enough!

Thursday September 15, 2011

This day started like any other day. I got up, did my normal morning routine, and was ready to go to work. The only difference (besides my heart racing from excitement and anticipation) was the fact that we were leaving for vacation in just a few hours...
Having packed a week early and having stayed on Brittany to make sure all of her packing was finished on Wednesday night to avoid feeling rushed or stressed on Thursday morning, we were all set to go the second I got home from work around noon. As I left for work that morning, this was the sight I saw as I headed out the door...

IMG_0799.jpg

The time crept by at work that morning as it seemed to take forever for lunchtime to come. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve... Finally, it was 12:00 and it was time to start our journey! I flew out of the office and minutes later into my driveway. I ran through the door, changed clothes, and finished packing everything into our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Brittany had most of our stuff loaded up already. God bless her! We jumped in the Jeep and were ready to roll! Brittany wanted to drive because she said she had an anniversary surprise for me... I went along with it.
Our traditional in the vehicle, pre-departure photo...

DSCF4287.jpg

We were on our way! Brittany immediately handed me a thick envelope and told me to open it. When I did, I found a letter and a CD. The letter got mushy (I’ll spare you guys the details...) and instructed me to put the CD in. Each song on the CD had a special meaning which she explained in detail in my letter. It was the sweetest thing EVER. I love my girl! When we had listened to all of the songs, we pulled off the interstate and swung into a Chick-fil-a to grab a quite bite and got right back on the road. Now, it was my turn to take the wheel... and I had it for the rest of the trip.

77 South...

IMG_0800.jpg

I don’t mind road trips. They are fun for me. I think the anticipation makes my excitement grow higher and higher as I near my destination.
We were making great time! I was only stopping if we had to - for gas, food or bathroom and I had packed a couple of empty water jugs. Just kidding about that last part. For the next several hours, I looked like this...

IMG_0801.jpg

And Brittany looked like this...

IMG_0802.jpg

Typical. You get this woman in a moving automobile, and she instantly transforms into an infant. She was out, so I listened to a couple episodes of WDW Today and the Be Our Guest Podcast and of course I had to pop in The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over album. Britt doesn’t like The Eagles, so I have to take advantage of her slumber when I can...
It was around 7:30pm or so when we both started to get pretty hungry. I spotted a sign for our favorite road trip restaurant at the next exit, so we pulled off, fueled up, and filled our bellies...

IMG_0806.jpg

Love some Cracker Barrel!

We got back on the road and only had a couple more hours of driving ahead of us for the night until we reached our first destination.
Weeks before I had booked a room for $71 at the Holiday Inn Express in Orange City, Florida, which is only about an hour from Walt Disney World. Our plan was to stop there for the night, get up early the next morning, and have just a short drive to WDW so we wouldn’t feel like we were wasting a day of our precious vacation! The more time in the parks, the better, right?!? We pulled in to the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express at exactly 9:30pm.

IMG_0808.jpg

It had been a long day and we were tired (although I don’t know how Britt was tired considering she slept 90% of the drive), but I still had trouble sleeping because of the excitement of knowing that in the morning we would be at Disney World! I went to the restroom and when I came out, Britt was out again already. After catching a few highlights on SportsCenter, I finally drifted off to sleep...

Cinderella Castle is an awesome structure. Most of the time people rush right past it or through it and never stop and check out all of the details it offers...

By this time, it was 8:30 and time for our breakfast! We went up to the desk, checked in and went inside to get in line to meet and get our picture taken with Cinderella. Unfortunately, this was the one time where I didn’t give my camera to the photographer, so I don’t have any pictures of us with Cinderella... Oh well. PhotoPass is nice, but not worth the price. The best tip I can give, is give them your camera also and they will take your picture every time.

While we waited in line for Cinderella, I noticed these two guys hanging out...

DSCF4028-3.jpg

Did you see them? How about a close up...

DSCF4027-2.jpg

After we got our pictures taken with Cinderella, it was time to head upstairs to eat!
But first, a shot of my princess with the princess who lives in the castle...

DSCF4029-3.jpg

I’ll take mine any day!
Once we got upstairs, we were taken to our table and before we knew it, our waiter was bringing out our food!

The food was delicious! The only downfall to Cinderella’s Royal Table is that it costs two table service credits. Other than that, it was great! They even brought Brittany a princess wand and me a sword! Haha.

Great updates!

Really enjoying the report and pictures. I love that you took your pretzels to the side street off Main Street. I need to remember to do that.

You took some great food pics. The Ohana ones made my mouth water! also enjoyed the Castle pics.

Glad to see you took beautiful pictures of the Castle, I don't understand how people can just walk by it. It is just so beautiful. One can never get enough close ups of it.

I'm just a little late to your TR, but I am enjoying it immensely! I remember your "freezing" TR so I'm glad to see the weather was a bit better for you.

I've only been to Ohana for breakfast, but it looks like I am definitely gonna have to do dinner there on my next trip - your pics made me hungry

We ate at CRT for dinner back in 2006 and we enjoyed breakfast a lot more, for what it's worth...

Yeah, our last two trips have been one extreme to the other - cold and hot! Haha. I think I like the hot better.
You have to try 'Ohana for dinner. It is unbelievable!

Back at Cinderella’s Royal table... After we enjoyed our delicious food, the princesses began to make their rounds to each table. First up was Snow White, followed by Ariel, Aurora and finally, Belle.

It was nice to see each of the princesses, but it was a bit awkward since we didn’t have any kids... Oh well, we had fun!
Just as we were about to leave, our waiter brought us one last anniversary surprise...

DSCF4043-4.jpg

After we finished our cupcake, we headed out of the castle for some more pictures around the back side of the castle...

Unfortunately, we weren’t spending all day in the Magic Kingdom, so we decided to go ahead and make our way to the exit. I convinced Brittany to make a quick pit stop in Tomorrowland first though for a quick ride on Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear. Both were walk ons and I got a new personal best on Buzz...

IMG_1009.jpg

Sadly, it was time to leave the Magic Kingdom and head to one of our several planned destinations for the day. I got this shot on the way out - I had never noticed this little detail before and thought it was pretty cool...

We headed out of the gates of the Magic Kingdom and toward the bus stop to catch a bus to Downtown Disney! This was our first visit to Downtown Disney on this trip and even though we always make a point to stop here at least once per trip, we usually don’t spend a lot of time here. Like I’ve said before, we love the parks and try to spend as much time in them as possible. With that being said, our bus arrived at Downtown Disney and we headed off to do some browsing and shopping...

DSCF4067-2.jpg

Our first stop, as always at DTD, was at the Days of Christmas shop!

DSCF4053-2.jpg

DSCF4050-2.jpg

DSCF4052-2.jpg

We always try to get at least one Disney ornament for our tree on each trip to Walt Disney World. We had to pick of a couple of things for our family members at home as well. We had all of our purchases shipped back to the AKL so we wouldn’t have to carry them around all day.
Next up was the World of Disney!

DSCF4066-3.jpg

I could spend hours in this store! I picked up a couple of shirts and a CD and got these cool shots while Brittany browsed the charms for her Disney charm bracelet...

DSCF4061-2.jpg

DSCF4062-3.jpg

DSCF4063-3.jpg

DSCF4064-1.jpg

Finally, we were ready to leave the World of Disney store, but not before on last stop for a quick photo in honor of our fall/Halloween trip...

DSCF4069-2.jpg

As much as we like Downtown Disney, we were ready to get back to the parks! So, off to the bus stop we went to catch a bus to EPCOT!

We arrived at EPCOT and because our day there got cut short due to rain earlier in the week, the plan was to head directly to World Showcase so we could explore and I could take some pictures.
Our good friends Adam and Brandi and their two kids Addison and Brock happened to be at WDW this week as well, and the plan was to meet up with them at some point today. They had a late breakfast/early lunch ADR and were supposed to call us when they finished so we could meet up. We figured we would have a couple of hours, so we headed into the park...

DSCF4070-2.jpg

DSCF4071-3.jpg

DSCF4073-5.jpg

DSCF4074-4.jpg

We had almost reached World Showcase when Brittany got a text from Brandi saying that they had finished up early and that if we wanted to, we could meet them in the Magic Kingdom on the bridge to Tomorrowland. We said that would be fine and we turned around and headed for the exit. My World Showcase pictures would have to wait once again.
On our way out, Brittany wanted to stop at Mouse Gear really fast to look at their Dooney & Bourke bags. I just looked around while she checked out the bags...

DSCF4075-3.jpg

Soon we were on our way back out of EPCOT. We decided to take the Monorail over to the Magic Kingdom, so we headed up to the platform to catch one...

DSCF4076-1.jpg

It was just minutes until the next Monorail arrived and once we boarded, we were pulling up to the Magic Kingdom in no time! We entered the MK (for the second time that day) and headed down Main Street and toward Tomorrowland to meet up with our friends.
Just like they said, they were standing on the Tomorrowland bridge. It was so good to see them! Nothing like being with friends and loved ones in Walt Disney World!
Having two children under the age of 6, Adam and Brandi hadn’t gotten to ride many of the “bigger” attractions so far during their trip. Well, this was their opportunity! Brittany and I agreed that one of us would take the kids to ride something that they could ride while Adam and Brandi got to enjoy some of the more adult friendly attractions.
We started out in Tomorrowland and with a ride we all could do - Buzz Lightyear!
Brandi is not big on roller coasters or big thrill rides, so Adam and I hit up Space Mountain while Brittany, Brandi and the kids headed over to Fantasyland to ride a couple of things.
After Space, we met up with them and we all took a ride on the Haunted Mansion...

IMG_1011.jpg

Addison and Brock were scared at first but they ending up loving the HM!
Next we headed toward Frontierland. Brittany volunteered to go with Brock and watch him play in the little playground down by Splash Mountain while Adam, Brandi, Addison and I rode Splash and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
After the mountains, we all met back up for a ride on Pirates of the Caribbean.
The whole day, I had been telling Adam about Dole Whips, so naturally, when we got to Adventureland he was wanting to make a stop at Alhoa Isle! We got some cool treats and enjoyed them as we relaxed in the shade.
By this time it was starting to get a little dark, so we headed toward the castle hub to try and get a good spot for the Main Street Electrical Parade, Wishes and the Magic, Memories and You show!

DSCF4087-1.jpg

DSCF4085-2.jpg

IMG_1012.jpg

The hub was already SUPER crowed, so we decided to get a good spot on the little walkway between the castle and the Tomorrowland bridge (the bridge right there at Cosmic Ray’s). We got a good spot and Adam and I headed over to Cosmic Ray’s to get food for everybody.
We got the food and took it over to the bridge and we all enjoyed a nice meal as we waited for the evening entertainment to begin...
