Boma reviews and opinions????

My wife and I are not picky eaters, but my kids are and I don't know why. Anyway, we are eating breakfast there in 20 days and that sounds like a safe choice based on my kids. Can't wait.

We go there every trip. Never had a bad meal.
Admittedly, aside from gorging ourselves on the various offerings, we grab a few things off of the kids' table. But we're kids at heart. That's why. And we're addicted to macaroni and cheese, so if it's available in the price of the meal, going past it is like letting a piece of you die inside. Don't judge me.

One "unfortunate" incident on our last trip there occurred at Boma's. We had very early dinner reservations, but were on vacation with our 5-month old. It was December, so heat wasn't much of a factor, and so many people promised us "at that age, they sleep most of the time, so you should have no problem going where you want to go, switching off on the e-ticket rides, blah blah blah..." Well, Li'l Slapperina was miserable most of the trip, unless we were back in our room, and then the last few days she got in the swing of things. When we got to the AKL for dinner, she just finally settled in for a nap. Not for lack of trying all day. We didn't do much of anything in any par and spent most of the day in our room, playing and trying to rest. No good. But she was just going to sleep in Boma while we waited for it to open for dinner. THEN they made a grand annoucnement that we were the first family of the evening, and made a big processional of getting us to our table. It was SO sweet, and a gesture I guess they make with a family every night when the restaurant opens, and we felt like SUCH schmucks, but we were begging them, BEGGING them, "please not us, our baby just got to sleep, og, please don't clap, awwwwwww...." and then she woke up and got all cranky again. She went back to sleep after about 15 minutes. Just goes to show, no matter what you do, how much love you give 'em, how many joys you want to experience with 'em, you are doing permanent damage to your kids every single day :)

Boma is one of my favorite restaurants at WDW. You shoul go for dinner. Wide selection, great atmopshere, really fun. Make sure you try the hummas and fallafel(sp?).

Have fun!

I'm a VERY picky eater so I don't really even know why I chose this place. The people who I was with enjoyed it...I spent a dining credit to eat cornbread all night! :brick:

I am NOT a picky eater, and I found it rather shallow and pedantic. :)

Seriously though, I found the food rather .... uninspiring. And after hearing so much about Zebra Domes, I was forced to put them into the category of "no big deal". Both of my kids did the same as well. They had heard about the Zebra Domes (mainly from me) and after they tried them they wondered what the big deal was.

After reading how great it was our group tried it last year - we eat anything - it was 'ok' but we won't be going back. Lots of other restaurants that I would rather go to but glad I tried it once to see what it was. Its a cool place but noisy.

We are not zebra dome fans either, as I remember they were kind of like Oreo's with pudding on top and some chocolate??? We did not like Boma however we loved Tusker House. Same kind of food, we just thought TH was a better quality. We have a couple picky eaters and they loved TH and did not like Boma's.....

I too thought Tusker House was much better, all around.

Better food

Better atmosphere

Better service.

What you're describing sounds more like the Mickey mousse from Chef Mickey's (oreo with chocolate mousse covered in chocolate ganache). The Zebra Domes are a vanilla sponge cake with chocolate espresso flavored mousse covered in white chocolate ganache with a bit of Kahlua. I'm a huge fan of Zebra Domes!

I found Tusker House to be kind of boring and Boma to be much better. I love the hummus at Boma. That's what makes dining at WDW so great, there's something for everyone. :D

I also found it funny watching all the adults eating off the kids buffet due to the fact that they left their sense of culinary adventure at the door.

Oh My God!! Who goes to Boma and then eats off the kids buffet!!! Makes no sense:shrug:

I too find it hysterical that grown adults eat there and have mac and cheese! Insane!

Not everyone was born with an adventurous palate and not everyone eats at Boma for the same reasons you do.

I am extremely sensitive to tastes and textures of foods and if I try something and it's not what I'm used to, most of the time my gag reflex goes into overdrive and I physically can't swallow it. I've been this way my entire life. Despite spending over 20 years trying to overcome this issue, it will not go away.

So yes, I am one of those hilarious adults who eats off the kids' section. I never realized before that I was being judged by and laughed at by other adults because of this. I guess I assumed people minded their own business at restaurants.

I go to Boma because I enjoy the atmosphere, the rest of the people in my party like the food, and they have a good dessert menu. I don't go there for a "culinary adventure".

I don't mind spending money on a restaurant like Boma. In fact when I go to 'Ohana I pay $30 to eat a bowl of Mac N Cheese off the kids' menu. I don't let my eating issues dictate the restaurant choices for my entire family, and plus I love the atmosphere of the (non-character) Disney restaurants.

I can vouch that Laura is wonderful company in Boma regardless of her food choices. :D

Boma is one of the few buffets I will go to. I don't like them as a habit as they tend to promote unhealthy overeating and they also tend to waste more food than regular places because people take waaaay more than needed and then throw out so much.

That said, the food has always been very good. It was dumbed down a bit in the past 3-4 years due to large part to guests with simple palates. (no, I'm not attacking anyone here, just stating a fact that a vast majority of WDW guests are very much meat and taters, chicken fingers, plains pizza and mac n cheese folks ... and I doubt judging by how many morbid obese folks you see that it is for any 'health' reasons).

The prices have also gone up naturally due to the DDP.

When it opened less than a decade ago you could get dinner for under $20. Now (haven't checked) I doubt you can get breakfast for close.

But the soups and salads are phenomenal. And many entrees are at least African-inspired/spiced.

I normally eat breakfast at Boma once a trip. It is over $20 with a drink.
