It's also unlikely to help ESG. Most of the issues there have just as many Iger fingerprints on them as Chapek ones.

The reality for Disney is that the entire media industry has been permanently disrupted, and Burbank doesn't have any more answers than the others do.
Well Iger did hand Chapek a dumpster fire and ran away. Now that the fire is out and he comes back but the dumpster is flooded.

Yep, when your box office receipts go in the tank and your streaming revenue eats up a lot of production costs, something has to change.

Right. It’s just not going to happen overnight obviously.

I dunno- first hand reports state that the Davy Crockett canoes have already been rebranded back to the 'Indian War Canoes', and that the dead settler in front of the burning cabin (which is now burning again) has returned.

There's also rumors of bulldozers behind DCA, so we might want to get our last rides on the Emotional Whirlwind in before the parking is brought back.

Really reflects Bob Iger as a person. Run when it gets tough, let paycheck take the fall, come back to look like the hero.
Totally agree. How do we know some version of this wasn't "planned". Put Chappy on the hotseat in a really bad spot, make him be the real bad guy doing all the dirty things others wanted done, Chappy takes all the heat, board dumps him and brings in the "savior". Is Iger teflon?

I'm being vague because I don't recall the details but this morning on the KTLA news the entertainment guy showed a tweet from someone I've never heard of who claimed that Chapek saw the parks only as money but Iger knows that they need to make an emotional connection with the public. Seemed to imply they will get more love now.

I sense this was part of a larger strategy.

However, I think the idea was to have this transition happen - whether it be from Iger to Chapek to Iger OR Iger to Chapek to ? - not at a time when the larger entertainment business is having an identity crisis.

Sorry I'm not reading all the pages leading up to this, but just wanted to pop in and say the priority for fixing here is the DMED side of the company, which Chapek has really done a number on in Iger's estimation. The reorg under Kareem Daniel is the first thing Iger is undoing. I'm not sure where a parks checkup sits on Iger's to do list, but don't expect much to happen any time really soon.

Also important to remember that Genie+ and the Lake Nona moves were both developed under Iger.

Also, palpable joy in offices and Zooms today. One hopes Iger will take the incoming goodwill and run with it to make some really good and helpful decisions.
To quote @Trauma's post from another thread.

"So I called Disney to ask if I could use gift cards to pay for Genie Plus.

The women who answered the phone was the happiest customer service rep I have talked to in awhile.

While she was “checking” she was even singing Disney songs.

I asked her if she worked from home or an office. She said they where in an office building.

I asked her how everyone felt this morning now that the Villain that was running the company into the ground was fired.

Her response I did not expect since I assume it’s a recorded line.

She said everyone was hugging and giving high fives. She said cast members were so happy some had tears of joy.

Think about that for a minute."

With the plus side being, when the public is emotionally connected they spend more.

I spent WAY more on Disneyland/Disneyland merchandise from 2012-2019 than I have since, despite having more income.
