Here's what the new CEO of Disney had to say about movies this past September:

Cool! He learned nothing over the last couple years and is doubling down on every misconception Hollywood and Wall Street had. Of course, clinging to bad ideas in the face of contrary evidence is kinda Iger's trademark.

Can we send him a copy of Top Gun 2?

Truly impressive how the majority treats the minority they disagree with on this site. Name calling like ‘moron’, ‘mental crisis’, ‘bigot’, ‘intolerant’, ‘troll’, ‘delusional’, ‘crazy’.

Wait, I get it. Mos Eisley. This board is Mos Eisley.
You’re right, it is impressive seeing people call out hateful bigotry and intolerance. There’s a reason why they’re the minority.

Wakana Forever might've been enough - but, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Iger have complete creative control over the studios until earlier this year?
It was all muddled.

Before everyone pivots to the “genius” that brought us disgraces like “galaxys edge” and “after hours magic”…

All this is iger’s fault. He took them to the creative void they’re in now and allowed chapek to happen.

And quit like a coward.

Strange days. The investors want their money as Disney is Heading into a recession that they completely unprepared for…

How long until they fire Iger for Eisner? 🤔

But you miss the point. People hate it. It's simple enough to blame it on Chapek and allow him to take it out the door with him.

My guess is parking fees are one of those things people "hate" but don't care about that much in reality -- as in, people complain, but it doesn't actually prevent them from attending Disney. It just doesn't have a large enough effect to eliminate when they're getting what is essentially free money from it.

It's a bit like polling telling you that 90% of Americans support doing more to fix pot holes/maintain roads and running a campaign on that -- "90% of people agree! I'll sail to victory!"-- but not realizing no one considers it important enough to attract and/or change their vote over other issues.

It's just completely mindboggling. Disney, aside from any other company was ready to provide massive amounts of content to an audience that was locked up in their homes. They had not only 1, not 2 but THREE animation divisions (including their television animation division) that could've churned out content because the animators could've worked from home and did... NOTHING. Both on Iger and Chapek's watch because they wanted live action content!

He's definitely right; theaters will never fully recover, but they have a place. Chapek's approach that "all people want is content," regardless of the nuance or quality of it, is the same abysmal line of thinking AT&T made with WarnerMedia, leading to its downfall. There's a certain amount people want to/are willing to consume, and p***ing off legitimate artists that you rely on to craft movies/shows is something I'd expect Bob Iger not to do, which will help the studio actually move eyeballs.
…ummm…that was Iger who started that.

In the end, chapek did NOTHING…he was just a rube that couldn’t say a word without looking clueless

It’s Disney…

They need animation…and live action…

They need to refresh their parks in the face of mounting financial pressure on them.

They need to put Star Wars on a movie screen that is written and filmed by fans of Star Wars…

The truth didn’t change today

Sweating. He’s next up.
If they touch Feige it will be one of the four or five stupidest moves in Hollywood history. Anyone who didn't sell their Disney stock the minute that news hit would be a fool. The MCU is a miracle of consistency unlike anything pop culture has ever seen and Feige is one of the greatest producers in history - Thalberg or Selznick level.

It's more a question of whether Feige is considering jumping ship - or used the threat to help push Chapek out the door, just as he did with Perlmutter.

The MCU is fading some…over-saturation and movement toward fringe characters because they are gunshy about the Johnny depp effect

I dunno - aside from Strange Worlds, DisneyCorp seems to have abandoned their animation division and ceded it to Pixar who's not even firing on all cylinders these days and BOTH take a back seat to Star Wars/Marvel/Avatar.
