Bob Iger at WDW now ... BoD to Follow?

I'll be shocked if Streets of America stay.

I would be too. It's such a huge space that effectively does nothing except at Christmas (I love the lights!). It's the second most underutilized space in all the parks imho, with the exception of captain eo/fountain and cement area in Epcot.

Are they staying there or simply meeting(which is what they usually do ... yes, in rooms, not meeting rooms) there? Been told that Iger, at least, is staying where he always does -- the Grand Flo.

Oh, and they always make things LOOK perfect when the upper management is around. They don't ever see reality. One thing I always liked about Michael Eisner was when he'd go off on his own and just show up somewhere and look around and talk to CMs and/or Guests. That just isn't in Bob Iger's nature.

They are staying here. Yes. All of them. Just for a retreat. I bet the food options are top shelf this week on Club Level (pure speculation on my part for that last part). But I bet it's true.

Heh heh.....

So which one of our local Floridian friends wants to volunteer to stalk the Boardwalk tomorrow ..
Must have a camera with a good quality distance-shooting lens , and a water glass to hold up to the walls.
Pocket sized notepad with waterproof paper and pen optional for jotting down notes.
;)

Any volunteers...?

Personally I'm thinking SALE because if it's simply a routine budget decision there is no NEED for the Iger/BoD to be onsite at WDW especially since they prefer obscure venues, But IF they are actively shopping P&R around there is every reason for them to be at the swamp kingdom.

No. It's not on the table right now. From 2007 until 2011, they tried multiple times. And failed. The P&R business has been performing very well and there is no desire to upset that apple cart.

And the BoD would need to meet at WDW if they had to tour Pandora and receive presentations from the Florida-based execs and Imagineers overseeing the Studios plans. That is what this is about.

Passive aggressive BS shot on me because I know FOR A FACT and wrote about it years ago that the BoD met aat WDW to consider selling off a stake in P&R and even toured groups of foreign investors. ... That poster is one of a small minority of vocal critics of mine who can't quit me. So ... that's what he was actually attempting to put out.
Sometimes, you'd think he never got over his CP when he was Part of the MAGIC of The Walt Disney Company!
Your bulge for me is showing.

Am I doing this right?

@WDW1974 will the Osbrone Lights return for one last year?

It is on a year by year basis. Should be going ahead this year unless something major happens quickly. Next year, anyones guess at this point.

Yes. I would be shocked if they cancel them for this year. I would say the chances for them next year are slim (but possible) and go down with each passing year.

They have had times when they weren't held ... last time may have been about a decade ago? @wdwmagic, do you know?

Yes, it will be larger when all is said and done. Whatever they wind up calling this park, it will be getting a revamped entrance and, likely, multiple parking structures (one for cast, one for Guests). And, of course, additional new Pixar and Star Wars themed attractions, entertainment, retail and dining.

But again, this will be spread out over many years. I very much doubt all of this will wrap before 2021 at the earliest.

This is Disney, not UNI. Snails move faster ... Dead snails on a plate move faster!

Just guessing, but it sounds like Disney may follow the blueprint from the CA redo: additions and refurbs throughout the park over several years with the opening of a major land and park re-dedication at the end...just in time for WDW's 50th.

One plus, I would hope, is that the park entry (Hollywood Blvd.) would not need as much attention. Thus, fewer walls at the front of the park as CA experienced with the addition of Buena Vista St.

I don't know if this is semantics, but when the BoD gets together anywhere outside of Burbank or NYC, it's generally referred to as a 'retreat' ... they will be making significant decisions while at WDW and touring the ongoing work in DAK (possibly DS as well, although I doubt Disney wants that group out in such a mass of humanity).

Are you suggesting that Bob and the Board are too good to eat like the commoners?

A new entrance? I really hope that doesn't mean the loss of Hollywood Blvd.......
One would hope....

It never ceases to amaze me how afraid most fanbois and Lifestylers are over simply approaching a Disney manager or exec to discuss the product they spend large sums of their incomes on.

Since we are giving unsolicited advise...it is becoming frustrating coming to a Spirited thread and listening to you give umbridge over his writing style over and over. We get it, you do not care for his online persona or whatever. Are we hear to debate the merits of each person's prose as written in context to a online forum.

Personally, I enjoy the narrative as written but I also enjoy the matter-of-fact style of @Lee when he has information to provide. If you feel Spirit's writing style detracts from the information given, rest assured we are all now painfully aware of that fact.

So the advice, you can do the same as I do, when I see one of your posts with a 1000 word wall of text in response to a simple question, just scroll right past.

Thank you!

In an intellectual aside, perhaps we need to consider the composition of two threads. One can contain the commentary embedded in sarcasm several of the forum members enjoy; the other can be a simple summary of factual information void of any personality.

Actually, sadly ... I don't think UNI has one bit to do with this. I think it just has gotten to a point where something has to be done. Disney still doesn't want to acknowledge it has competition in Florida.

And, no comment on the amount. Suffice to say the amount is SIGNIFICANT.

Entrance and egress to the park is a mess and has been since opening. It was the first, and I believe, the only Disney park to be built without a master plan for expansion. You should be able to tell that if you are a long time visitor and have watched how areas have been added and opened. I know a new CM garage is a definite. I'm almost certain a new Guest garage was approved as well. And, no, not across the street. The Star Wars footprint has nothing to do with parking beyond, they hope, having more Guests visiting daily.

Not an entrance to the park, but the road system that feeds people into the park.

With a new entrance to the parking lot, perhaps from Victoria Way; would this allow for destruction of the existing road in from world drive to the parking lot, making room for park expansion in that south east area near Star Tours?

unAs a person whose professional work is nothing but dealing with Executives from well known companies I can tell you that this meeting is NOT the Norm. First, my boss sits on quite a few boards of Major Corporations and when the BOD meet for Mid-Year and Normal reviews that is done at Corporate in this case Burbank. They will travel when they have Annual Shareholder meetings but regular BOD are not generally held in unusual occasions because of the costs. Board Members travel DELUXE and I can tell you the cost is extremely high when my boss is flown it is on private planes and it is TOP NOTCH....The Disney Board is the exact same.

So why WDW...simply put as mentioned by sum....IGER needs the BOD approval for MAJOR CAPITAL EXPENDITURE....you do not fly BOD in for meetings off site unless Iger needs the Boards Approval for what he will propose for the cost. Why? Stock and Shareholder value. When he announces the Major Expenditure Wall Street will look at ROI (return on investment and value added to stock price). So Iger will have to have the Support of the Board when it goes Public. You do not fly BOD into Orlando unless you need them to see and touch what is going on and because it will be big money!!

As for the agenda and who knows what. The BOD meeting will be extremely guarded and they have no interest in drawing attention. SO NO you will not know where they are meeting....Think of a very plush and private location on Property where a BOD would be able to meet without shall we say Spies and Leakers! They exist if you think! The BOD of Disney includes many high profile members who will keep this meeting closely guarded.

So NO this is not ordinary! Major Money will be discussed and VOTED ON! and it will be about WDW!
