Boat Ride in Germany?

I can't wait for the Autobon show scene where the boats leave the river as they transition onto a rollercoaster track, and blast from 0 to 80 in 3 seconds to the driving beat of the Red Hot Chili Peppers..

But Achtung Baby was recorded in Berlin. In the same studio as Heroes. In the same country that the Beatles got their real start. All right, so I'm a bit biased towards No's 1&3.

I think you meant Autobahn :D ... yeah we have no speedlimits(on parts of the highways .. not in citybounds) .. thats why so many visitors are driving like nuts around here)

Thanks for posting that overhead map of Epcot, Italy sure has a lot of land left, but the sad part is seeing that massive building in the back of Japan and knowing they never turned it into an attraction. and probably never will.
But all for Rhine River in Germany, long overdue.

It sure does... I agree with those who said Italy is by far the weakest showcase. Of course they neglected to build half of it. I've never heard the story on this; did they just not sign a sponsor or did someone drop out?

There was supposed to be a Roman ruins attraction with a nighttime laser light show. I've barely ever heard any detail about this. Anyone know more about it or why it was axed?

Yes...seeing a new attraction on the other side of the lagoon or a new country completely would be great...I would think the bean counters would prefer an attraction in a building that is already there...Germany Would seem to make the most sense from a financial standpoint

Heading for the great escape.
I thought Germany was a fairly "new" country in european terms. I mean apart from 2 world wars, which is hardly a tourist draw, wine, beer sausages and cars is pretty much all you can say about Germany. After all the wall will have soon been gone for 20 years.

This is frustratingly an area where there is scant detail. Do you know any more regarding the ruins (show, ride, walkthru) and night show?

I heard of another boat ride with a finale in the Colliseum.... but again details are sketchy at best. I do know there were solid plans for another 2 floor restaurant to the west side of Italy but this never happened either. So far as an attraction, even back to 1979 the area is simply marked `future development` - but so was the land west of the UK - which did have detailed plans for the Crystal Palace and was made public in 1982.

Germany could use a ride. Maybe a dark ride will be better than a boat ride. World showcase already has two boat rides. A Pinocchio dark ride will fit in well in Germany.

Thats very interesting!, When we took the Hidden Treasures of World Showcase tour, the guide showed us an archway gate that stands still today on the right side of the Italy pavilion, this was going to be the entrance to the Italy gondola boat ride that was never built. So apparently Italy actually has some future land on its right side that of course stretches all the way around back. From what she told us, the ride building what have gone from the right side to the back, and in front of the building in the rear of the pavilion was to be the roman ruins walk through thing.
Don't know for sure but thats what the tour guide thinks to be correct.

It is kinda sad the full fledged concept was never carried out because the concept artwork and models (some can be seen in the book Epcot Creating the New World of Tomorrow) looks great.

That same book also says about Germany, " to the rear of the platz are three major elements of the Germany pavilion, two of which alas have not been made ready for Epcots opening day. Never mind. The third element will surely carry the day-not to mention the night, and even the foreseeable future". (ok that right there makes me want to cry lol lets get on with it and do it then lol:p ) continued, "the tourism area, when it is completed, will convey the feeling of a medieval town hall with suits of armor, coats of arms of Germanys states and cities and other appropriate and well researched appointments. There will be a visual display to whet the viewers appetites for the real Germany, and facilities for making travel arrangements to fulfill their wanderlust." Then it goes on to describe Rhine River.
Anyway I think its time they implement some of this great sounding wanderlust lol.

Wasn't Pinocchio Italian?

I think he was. Hansel and Gretel may be more fitting for a German ride, although I can't remember if Disney has rights to Hansel and Gretel.

But that's IF we want a character ride. I'm not sure I do. Although the video of the Mexico refurb looks good, I'm still not thrilled about overlaying the characters into the World Showcase attractions. So if they did to a German Boat ride, I'm not sure if I would want it to be based on any characters, other than genuine historical characters.

Here`s the plot layout based on all the info I`ve found; the area in white is a `future expansion` show building. The green area is the proposed 2nd restaurant (I`ve gone into more detail about this in another thread) and the blue line was an upper walkway connecting the two buildings, and giving the expansion area an arched entrance. It also looks like there was room as aladdin 2007 (welcome BTW, great info!) said for the ruins walk through infront of the show building.

Thanks Marnie1971, the outline really does put it all into perspective, it would have been fantastic built like that. Maybe one day yet we will still get something like this back there in Italy, although I have doubts, I know I shouldnt lol, but at least the space is there and could happen if they wanted to do it.

Agreed; I know that I wouldn't want one. The purpose of the pavilions, as I understand it, is to show off other cultures- not infuse them with our own. On the other side of the coin, I can see how adding the characters may make the information more accessible to the young 'uns...just because I understand it, doesn't mean I accept it, though.

So, how about that boat ride...

WS already has four films. The point is - the medium is not the message.

It is verrrrrrrrry new. Up until the 19th century, it was still known as Prussia. And it's even newer as a peaceful nation.

Not to mention the Pinocchio dark ride at DL is quite...horrible.

Right now I'd pretty much settle for anything new in World Showcase though. Germany, Italy, UK, and Japan could all use something. And what on earth is taking so long with the re-painting (or whatever they're doing) on Japan?

At this point though...waiting for something new in World Showcase is a bit like waiting for a new MK e-ticket...I've pretty much given up on both. Maybe one day...
