When you consider that most of the shows and movies have been bad in Phase 4. But they've mostly gotten great ratings by the critics. I think it's more likely the shills are upping the ratings, rather than the bringing them down.
Any proof of this claim that its "shills" causing the ratings to be higher?
Also why is it that any positive review must be from a "shill"?

Just because you personally haven't enjoyed the content from Phase 4 doesn't mean that someone who does find Phase 4 content enjoyable must be a paid "shill".

It does go both ways though. I don't think it's fair to say that, but then say audience scores being low would be because of people bombing it. It's just like anything, there are people going in who will tell you it's the greatest movie in history, and others telling you this is the worst thing to ever hit the box office. Both have never seen the movie. I do think the metric Penguin uses is a better representative. I'd bet it does tend to side on the higher than reality side, but it's probably the most accurate single score we have. Personally, I'll look at it as a tool along with things like RT. If they more or less agree, we have an answer. Wildly different, we then have a debate as to which spot in the middle it would probably go.

Except that review bombing is a proven thing, especially with the MCU. "Shills" artificially inflating positive review scores has not been proven, at all.

But isn't review bombing reserved for audiences? If an actual critic review bombs anything, I'd think they'd lose their job immediately (if someone could prove it).

That said, I noticed some of the negative reviewers give rotten scores to pretty much everything that isn't an unknown indie film. And some have given rotten reviews to anything that got an overall positive score. Some just like the artsy stuff and stick up their noses to anything overly commercial. That will always be the case. That's their choice.

Yep that's the point. Review bombing is a well known proven thing that has happened with audience scores on sites like RT. The reverse though that never really been proven, ie the "shill" positive review. Its only exists in some conspiracy minds as a reason for a movie doing well that they didn't like.

True, but I didn't say it didn't happen, I have a problem with saying if it does get bad reviews, that is why for a movie not released. Maybe worded wrong, I was more making a criticism of people already throwing that out as an excuse. Nobody has seen it outside of critics (who get next to no benefit of the doubt from me personally), so I think it's equally silly to say "If it does well, it's because of shills" and "if it does poorly, it's cause of bombing." There are plenty of movies critics loved that fans genuinely hated, and even more the other way. I also think using Penguin's metric definitely helps us understand a bit better if the bombing is a real thing, or just being used as an excuse. Same with repeat box office to an extent (though with the streaming now, I'm not sure how to use that as a judge).

I get what you're saying. However in this case its someone claiming that the MCU is getting positive reviews only because of paid "shills" or the even more fanciful claim of reverse review bombing, which we both know isn't true.

Is anyone bringing a lot of tissues to the screening this weekend?
I’m watching it in 4DX tomorrow and glad there will be a lot of commotion going on as I try to fight my tears lol.

It’s crazy comparing the energy to when the first movie came out. The hype was grand & seeing a lot of young happy faces cheering on social media & ready to see a black Marvel superhero star in their own film was amazing. Even the album was a full on celebration! It breaks my heart that this time it’s kind of the opposite energy & I think about young happy faces from a few years ago.

I’m planning to buy a box of Kleenex tomorrow before heading to the theater. I will also be wearing my sunglasses in the theater.

Watchmen (2019), which was cancelled (in it's 1st season) won many awards (11 emmys) as well. There has been a lot of high praise and awards being handed out to content with Black leads.
You seem to be conflating "good" with "popular." Those are not necessarily the same thing.

Omg thanks for reminding me to bring sunglasses too! I know I’m going to need to take a nap after the movie after all those emotions.
Big hugs!!! I’ll think about you when I’m watching. It’s going to be a hard watch for a lot of people.
Ummm did I do something to you? Or are you really just that guy?

Watchmen was a good show, though, and Regina King was amazing in it.
It really was. Watchmen & Lovecraft County are two shows that I wish had a second season but I’m kind of glad they didn’t as they were so amazing. Regina King did her thing!
I just can't wait, going Tuesday, must avoid spoilers.
Same! After the first teaser I was good. I wish you luck on avoiding spoilers, watch out for YouTube!! That’s always the worst one for me.

Yes, gotta be prepared! I’m a very emotional and sensitive person, especially regarding death. Sometimes I cry when I see others crying, even if I don’t know them. So I know tomorrow is going to be bad.

I’ll be thinking of you, too! Maybe we should bring some ice cream with us to the theater, too.😂

Lovecraft absolutely deserves another season. Speaking of that show, I saw Wunmi Mosaku (actress who played Ruby on the show) at a cafe in Los Angeles two weekends ago. I told her she was an amazing actress. She’s so nice and has the cutest British accent.
