Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Anyone familiar with Cinelytic?!?

They seem to be suggesting wakanda will be the 3rd biggest box office of the year?

Interesting.
If the movie is GREAT, I could see it beating both Top Gun and Avatar at the domestic box office.

However, if the movie is a mixed bag (due to the circumstances surrounding Chadwick's death), I think it will come in third place. It really all comes down to whether audiences appreciate how the film handles the passing of Boseman. It's a wild card.

I think Avatar the Way of Water will be the top movie at the worldwide box office because the movie is very popular in foreign countries.

Gotta admit, that is not a big stretch of the imagination. While I would LOVE to see it surpass TGM and do better than Avatar2, I don't see that happening. Not a failure, though, if it falls short of those two behemoths.

Predictions:
OW: $180-$190 million
Domestic: $470-$500 million
Nothing to cry home about that is for sure.

I'm not sure. There are a lot of people who are down on Disney and the MCU right now. Not enough to make it fail in my opinion, but enough to keep it out of the top spot. It would need to out produce the first film to pass top gun. In the climate we are in, I'm not sure it can hit that mark. Too many people have the wait for D+ attitude, Especially with the uncertainty of the film like you said. Maybe it will be a fantastic, but even then I can see it falling short.

Well the gist i saw…at least with the North American box office…is it will finish top gun, avatar, wakanda in that order.

The box office really hasn’t recovered. No way home had a hyper inflated gross…cause it wasn’t that good…which I’m attributing to “Covid revenge”…cause it wasn’t that good…is kinda an outlier at this point. The anomaly. Maverick has that kinda thing going too.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the sequel. Because they probably had ideas that they were going to do. That unfortunately had to go out the window, with Chadwick's untimely passing.
I have a strong feeling many of the same basic story beats were kept intact. What changed was how Wakanda dealt with them after T'Challa's passing. The internal struggles will be with multiple characters whereas they may have solely been on T'Challa. Add to that a mighty kingdom without its beloved leader and it makes for a more vulnerable position.

I think it will suck and get lost trying to be “great” without boseman

But that’s just what Occam’s razor says as it stands

I think part of the reason people are down on Disney and the MCU is the abundance of mediocre products released theatrically since the pandemic. Maybe Wakanda Forever will give the MCU the shot in the arm it needs. Maybe it will be a mess. We shall see.

I agree, I don't even think the first one was that good. Chadwick Boseman was awesome of course, but the lousy special effects took me out of the story.
The first was definitely over rated in my opinion. I liked it, loved Chadwick as panther, but overall it was pretty average. The CG was terrible in parts for sure. That's why I have a hard time seeing it breaking the billion mark. I wouldn't be shocked if it ended lower than strange.

It's a wildcard for sure. Will it be stellar? I'm not betting on it. I think it was a mistake to not just recast the part. I'm wrong all the time but my bet is squarely on mediocre at best. Hopefully it surprises me as I am looking forward to bringing in Namor.

I think the CGI may have been bad in the first one because Marvel wasn't expecting the first Black Panther to become the phenomenon it did and didn't give the effects the attention they deserved. But the film emotionally resonated with the Black community in a way that exceeded all expectations.

Since Disney knows how popular the Black Panther brand is, there may be more of an effort to ensure that the film looks as great as possible. Visually, the trailers look better than all of MCU's recent projects — with the possible exception of Eternals (which looked amazing, regardless of what one thinks of the script).

Director Ryan Coogler and the cast also seem way more emotionally invested in this than Taika Wattiti and crew were for Thor: Love and Thunder.

I like it…but the success wasn’t a “black community” thing…that was a part of it for sure…but I think it was more the “height” of marvel in the context of where they were and the movies that proceeded it.

It hasn’t been as good since.

Then why did it make significantly more than Thor Ragnarok, Guardians 2, and Ant-Man and the Wasp? There were tons of Black-led organizations, community groups, and even churches that were telling people to see the movie and buying out theaters to watch the film. The movie resonated with many people who aren't even that into the MCU. And the movie grossed MORE than Infinity War at the domestic box office.

It was a popularity of Marvel base - 1/2 to maybe 3/4 - and the cultural phenomenon on top of that.

I’m half agreeing with you. Black panther benefited from its cultural cross reference, the actors and it was pretty good. But the marvel appeal came with the MCU prior.

Ya know, I may be the only one who feels this way (maybe because, despite my age, I never really knew THAT many of the Marvel characters outside of Hulk, CapAMerica, Thor, and Iron Man), but to me Black Panther was more of a mythology story than a typical superhero story. Let's face it, in any adventure action story where there is world building, SOMEONE's always got super abilities and that dates back to Greek and Roman mythology (where it all began). My go-to superheroes growing up were Batman and Superman. The BP movie was, to me, like a brand new property franchise.

I thought the first trailer was a good feast of visuals and audio. Was very nice but told you nothing about the film.

I don't think it looks very good in the second trailer though.

So Shuri becomes an Ironman and a Black Panther in this?
