Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

I'm not sure. There are a lot of people who are down on Disney and the MCU right now. Not enough to make it fail in my opinion, but enough to keep it out of the top spot. It would need to out produce the first film to pass top gun. In the climate we are in, I'm not sure it can hit that mark. Too many people have the wait for D+ attitude, Especially with the uncertainty of the film like you said. Maybe it will be a fantastic, but even then I can see it falling short.
I think part of the reason people are down on Disney and the MCU is the abundance of mediocre products released theatrically since the pandemic. Maybe Wakanda Forever will give the MCU the shot in the arm it needs. Maybe it will be a mess. We shall see.

I agree, I don't even think the first one was that good. Chadwick Boseman was awesome of course, but the lousy special effects took me out of the story.
The first was definitely over rated in my opinion. I liked it, loved Chadwick as panther, but overall it was pretty average. The CG was terrible in parts for sure. That's why I have a hard time seeing it breaking the billion mark. I wouldn't be shocked if it ended lower than strange.

It's a wildcard for sure. Will it be stellar? I'm not betting on it. I think it was a mistake to not just recast the part. I'm wrong all the time but my bet is squarely on mediocre at best. Hopefully it surprises me as I am looking forward to bringing in Namor.

I think the CGI may have been bad in the first one because Marvel wasn't expecting the first Black Panther to become the phenomenon it did and didn't give the effects the attention they deserved. But the film emotionally resonated with the Black community in a way that exceeded all expectations.

Since Disney knows how popular the Black Panther brand is, there may be more of an effort to ensure that the film looks as great as possible. Visually, the trailers look better than all of MCU's recent projects — with the possible exception of Eternals (which looked amazing, regardless of what one thinks of the script).

Director Ryan Coogler and the cast also seem way more emotionally invested in this than Taika Wattiti and crew were for Thor: Love and Thunder.

I like it…but the success wasn’t a “black community” thing…that was a part of it for sure…but I think it was more the “height” of marvel in the context of where they were and the movies that proceeded it.

It hasn’t been as good since.

Then why did it make significantly more than Thor Ragnarok, Guardians 2, and Ant-Man and the Wasp? There were tons of Black-led organizations, community groups, and even churches that were telling people to see the movie and buying out theaters to watch the film. The movie resonated with many people who aren't even that into the MCU. And the movie grossed MORE than Infinity War at the domestic box office.

It was a popularity of Marvel base - 1/2 to maybe 3/4 - and the cultural phenomenon on top of that.

I’m half agreeing with you. Black panther benefited from its cultural cross reference, the actors and it was pretty good. But the marvel appeal came with the MCU prior.

Ya know, I may be the only one who feels this way (maybe because, despite my age, I never really knew THAT many of the Marvel characters outside of Hulk, CapAMerica, Thor, and Iron Man), but to me Black Panther was more of a mythology story than a typical superhero story. Let's face it, in any adventure action story where there is world building, SOMEONE's always got super abilities and that dates back to Greek and Roman mythology (where it all began). My go-to superheroes growing up were Batman and Superman. The BP movie was, to me, like a brand new property franchise.

I thought the first trailer was a good feast of visuals and audio. Was very nice but told you nothing about the film.

I don't think it looks very good in the second trailer though.

So Shuri becomes an Ironman and a Black Panther in this?

You didn't like that trailer?

Shuri presumably just becomes Black Panther (assuming it isn't Nakia). The person in the Iron Suit is Riri Williams, a.k.a Ironheart. She's a new character in the film.
…doesn’t that Seem a bit too complicated already??
Not the second one. Did nothing for me. Just generic, nothing all that interesting. The wings on the ankles is goofy AF.

I'll still see it in the theatre though.
I’m with you…
First trailer had me thinking: …well maybe?
Second was: oh…so that’s how it’s gonna be?

Marvels problem now is they’re losing their foundation actors…the biggest two - my opinion - and now boseman due to life getting in the way.
Can’t go that way forever or you have a big elaborate fringe mainstream comic book world.

Then the ones they still have like Hemsworth is getting disjointed meh films.

Is there no one helming Marvel at the moment? Is it a period of experimenting before setting up a new plan for films?

I also wonder if they're going to over-extend themselves with too much. Where Marvel will move from a "See everything" franchise to just picking and choosing what people see. Which is what is happening with the TV shows.

I don't think you can keep going trotting out all the same actors. That also can be a failed process. I am starting to get excited on who the X-men will be brought along, per some reports they will give a fond farewell to the Fox X-men in Avengers secret wars or Kang dynasty. Then introduce the new X-men post that.
I also think you will get many of the current hanging around as Dr. Strange will be still going, Hulk and a few others. They just need to be better developing the new characters in some things
