You're assuming they're keeping the same backstory.
Disney already showed that they're willing to change the kid's name, so don't be surprised if they switch other things around too.

So...this is a Disney adaptation of a Marvel story? Interesting...if that's true, well, then that's a bit more like it. I might go see this after all.

It should be noted these are poster leaks much like the anna and elsa ones we had in april of 2013. SO these are not representative of the final designs.

While I'm not crazy about the changes to Wasabi (really, is an all Asian-American cast of characters THAT big of a deal? And of all the characters to make African-American, they pick the guy who cooks! *facepalm*), if he is in fact voiced by Sam Jackson, then any and all concerns I have will be allayed until I actually see the film.

I'm picturing this movie will get followed by an animated series on DisneyXD. They did it with many of their films of the 90s (Aladdin, Hercules, the Little Mermaid, Timon and Pumbaa). It would also keep the franchise busy while they work on a sequel, which I'm sure would happen. This movie is gonna be huge. Just my prediction.

The thing is is that they haven't done anything like that since Lilo & Stitch. Granted, there was that long stretch where the films weren't popular enough to merit any kind of follow-up, but that might change since Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Frozen have torn up the box office

Well we do get those frequent Pixar shorts that come out every once in a while. The Toy Story Toons in particular are so smartly done, I wish Disney can apply that to one of their existing properties. Big Hero 6 in my opinion has potential for a few reasons, besides making it's way to earning big box office success, the movie is inspired by the Marvel comic. So with the source coming from the comics alone, Disney already has enough material to create an entire show that would tie in perfectly with the Marvel block.

Other than that, I do miss the days of television spinoffs. I thought Bolt (the superhero show from the movie) would've been a great tv show. It was critically liked upon and I thought that would have been enough to hold a prominent place in Disney programming. Then again these are just my ideas.

Well, I've heard that as far as the WDAS "canon" goes, Lasseter is not a fan of sequels and spin-offs, as they could "water down" or weaken the perception of the originals (which is a VERY bold statement from the guy who directed Cars 2).

If done smart, it would work and would definitely add more to the original. I love John Lasseter but I have to agree, Cars 2 was a train wreck of a movie. Then again I never understood the Cars universe anyway. Granted, it's a kids movie but I have younglings who ask me the most basic questions. "How do the cars build things? Why aren't there people?" Kids as we know are not dumb so I always thought that the Cars concept was a bit lazy and deserved a better story or explanation. That's why I agree with the minority here when we say that Cars is probably the worst franchise created by Pixar.

I like to think that humanity wiped themselves out with supernatural neutron bombs (sort of like in the Deadlands: Hell On Earth roleplaying game), which is why there are no people but all the buildings are intact. Said supernatural radiation either gave the cars sentience or forced the souls of the dead into the cars.

Granted, that still leaves plenty of unanswered questions, but it's a good starting point.
