He doesn't build his own robot. Baymax the robot was built by his older brother as a medical assist unit. When the older brother gets killed, Hiro seeks to avenge his brother and upgrades Baymax into a battle unit.

And you're forgetting that there are 4 other characters in this film that probably made Disney pick it, including a guy that can turn into a giant Godzilla-type monster.

You're assuming they're keeping the same backstory.
Disney already showed that they're willing to change the kid's name, so don't be surprised if they switch other things around too.

Oh, yeah, I'm betting a lot of the backstory gets changed. If the whole team is working on science projects with Hiro, then that's almost a given. Wasn't Gogo a convicted criminal given leniency if she became a superhero in the comics?

Even then, some of the details are being kept. It seems like Wasabe-No-Ginger is going to have his gimmick being plasma blades generated by tech rather than an innate power, that still doesn't change the fact that he's going to be an awesome warrior guy who goes around throwing laser knives. I was concerned because I'd heard he was being changed to African-American, and I thought this was troubling for a couple of reasons. First, what is wrong with having a full cast of Asian characters in a film made by a Western studio? Airbender whitewashed all the characters, and people took a big dump on that film. Secondly, this would be the second prominent African-American Disney character who's a chef, which could raise some troubling implications. Now, it looks like Sam Jackson will be playing which, if true, would pretty much allay any and all concerns I have until I actually see the film.

agree, most Disney stories gets " purified" and cleaned of things, events or actions that might affect the sense of real heroes for the eyes of most kids.
Comics usually put a lot on how heroes " are hardly perfect" or " they are not kind flawless angels".

Oh, a tad--
I quote from DMA's own description:
"Big Hero 6" is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius-thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred.

(So, without Sunfire and Samurai organizing the team for SHIELD, they pretty much got together by themselves, like the Little Rascals--Is Honey Lemon a "chemistry whiz" in the comics? I haven't read it.)

First official image of the big hero 6, forgive the terrible quality it's a leak. Now as for the story the plot of the film has indeed changed from the leak that was done months ago.
"According to various Japanese news sites that posted about the film (titled “Bay Max”), Hiro’s parents are both dead. This happened when he was very young, so he had to go live with his brother Tadashi, who mysteriously disappears one day in an accident.

It’s no surprise that the Japanese outlets got slightly more information that the US. For example, with Braveand Frozen, the marketing campaigns for those films were much darker than what we got here in the US.

Even though technically, little is known about the plot, Bleeding Cool News got wind of the plot and characters last year, which they worked with us to reveal on YouTube. In that iteration of the plot (from around Fall 2013), Hiro had a mom named Cass, who was still alive and part of the plot. Films, especially animated ones, go through many story changes even a few months before release, so it’s not disconcerting that this somewhat contradicts what was revealed last year."

It looks good but why so much desperation from marvel. Don't see why they would not put marvel anywhere in the trailer r on any promo pictures. I think you would want to market it as marvel with how well every marvel movie does. I know some characters have xmen ties but doesn't Disney have exclusive rights with animation.

Television, both live-action and animated, I believe that's correct. Film? Little fuzzier

They are trying to distance this as much as they can from marvel so they can keep it safe I am assuming to use in all of their theme parks for promotion. And of course due to the fact that the film is not really based off big hero 6, but rather inspired by it.

Let's be honest here Disney really doesn't care about the theme park when a movie can make millions of dollars. And if fox wanted to make a big deal about it they would anyways even if they marvel logo doesn't appear on it. I just think kids would go see it if the marvel logo was on it.

Disney definitely cares about the theme parks, clearly. Having a marvel sticker on the film isn't going to do much for the film and clearly walt disney animation can hold their own now. But when it comes to free advertising and tie ins with the parks and if they can make their film work to that advantage you sure bet their shiny penny they are going to do it. They already got rid of characters with ties to the avengers from big hero 6 and the x men so it's not just fox they are trying to work around. Kid's aren't going to care at ALL if a marvel sticker is slapped on there, they see superheros and the fact that it's a disney movie sure enough they will fill those seats.

The film is going to do great over 500 million at the box office for sure. It is a missed opportunity with marketing in my opinion to have a meet and greet. Disney has messed up over the past couple of years in marketing movies and hit home runs on others. It is unknown characters unless we now comics. You but a marvel logo on it people know that. Obliviously it doesn't work every time look at Jon carter. I just don't think Disney should make movies based on what properties they have for park use.

You can claim they have messed up marketing, but if frozen, tangled, and wreck it ralphs marketing campaigns have anything to prove is that somehow whatever they are doing is working. These characters aren't even big in the comic universe, so long as the disney logo is slapped on the trailer they really don't need the marvel logo for any sort of "boost". Also the same could be said for marvel films, as there are tons of them that either flopped are never did that great, dare devil, the hulk, to name a few. The marvel logo doesn't guarantee success.

Never said it guaranteed success Jon carter had a marvel sticker in front of it that didn't help. I just think that it would help this property. Sticking Disney in front of it does not guarantee success either look at Lone Ranger and mars needs mom. I believe this movie will be a hit but it could flop just as easy.

John carter of mars? Never had a marvel sticker in front of it?? It wasn't a marvel property or film... Also your initial statement and I quote "Don't see why they would not put marvel anywhere in the trailer r on any promo pictures. I think you would want to market it as marvel with how well every marvel movie does." And all I did was explain why marvel wasn't being marketed with this film which you refuted.

I think that might be in reference to how after a few weeks many theaters bundled it with The Avengers as a double feature.

Anyway, maybe there will be a meet and greet, maybe there won't. HOWEVER, Disney has used the theme parks for promotion of the film for at least a few weeks after premiering for all of WDAS films for the past 20 years. I see no reason why they wouldn't try for this one.

Exactly, and I believe them moving this film away as they could from it being marvel was securing that^ among other things.

Went to the Alamo Drafthouse for Kids Club and they showed they showed the teaser. Seemed most of the kids enjoyed the trailer from all the laughs.
