News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

For Future World, I truly think it'd be best not to add a new pavillion in either of the two (or maybe only one) remaining expansion spaces. And on that note, I do not think Wonders of Life should reopen as a standalone pavillion. Unpopular opinion, but I will try to explain.

Wonders of Life's fundamental problem, and a significant cause of its closing, was that it was tucked away. Unlike all of the other pavillions, you couldn't really see it when walking by. There was no weenie to draw you in. Only a sign and the spiraling thingy, but those paled in comparison to the other six big, visible buildings. Now that may not seem like an issue to us experienced people, but the average new guest is very much "see and do." And if they don't see it, they miss it.

Now, I suppose if Disney were to make a second attempt, they could squeeze the pavillion closer to the walkway and have some bigger weenie to draw people in. But, apart from hurting the symmetry of FW, that would overcrowd one part of it. By adding, they'd actually be subtracting. The open space around the visible front of each pavillion is what defines it. It's what makes it seem and feel grand. It's what triggers the average guest's brain to know that this is important, this is something good. That this something they should see and do.

So there really is no good way to add another Future World pavillion. Is there? What would you suggest?

I'd be very much in favor of them doing what they did with The Land pavillion, adding another ride/attraction out of guest view that uses the expansion space. That way, the park aesthetics remain intact. And each pavillion is a solid experience. I believe that is the best long-term vision for Future World.

How about using actual expansion pads for actual new pavilions with their own attractions as the park was designed to do? Tacking on another attraction/building to an existing pavilion just creates a mess like soarin in the land. Cramming that into there with dangerous single escalators that arent enough to handle the masses was a poor idea. It should have had its own separate front. entrances and exits between Imagination and the Land as its own pavilion. Same with cramming frozen in Norway as has been stated over and over. Instead a massive expansion pad was used for a small meetngreet building for what could have been a new attraction or pavilion. Martin may have a percentage on how much of that pad is actually used. Im guessing only 40% if that? Thats pretty bad.

Well that's one way to ignore my entire point. What I'm saying is that adding new pavillions with new fronts wouldn't work. Would ruin the symmetry and give each pavillion a lesser grandness and lesser importance.

They tried doing what you wish for when they built Wonders of Life. How'd that work out? Why would a seperate pavillion for Soarin' have had a different fate? I'm not challenging you, I'd just like you to explain why all of paragraphs you did not bold are flawed or wrong. Rather than responding with a complete disregard for nearly everything I said.

Edit: To adress your point, the slight problem of too many people at The Land pavillion would be easily solved by placing appealing attractions in pavillions that currently lack them. Then a balanced amount of people would frequent each pavillion, as was the case in the 80s.

As for the World Showcase comment, c'mon, really?! Did they waste valuable space with the summerhus villiage? Not at all. They have plenty of expansion pads that've been sitting idle for decades, and at the rate they're using them, they'll still have unused plots at least 100 years from now. We'll be dead by then. They could tear down the royal summerhus a century from now, if need be.

True, that expansion pad could have been used for a new attraction or pavillion. So? Same with any of the 6 equal-sized plots that still remain in World Showcase. Contrary to Future World, this is not at all an issue of space.

Perhaps a problem is that Norway expanded out of the sacred equal-sized plot of land. But your complaint was that only part of the space is being used. To that, I ask, would you rather them use 40% of an expansion pad, or use 0% and let it sit idle for many more decades?

Ugh World Showcase has more than 2 expansion pads, doesn't it? in reply to egg #lazy

Yes. I did a quick count on Maps and it looks like there are 6 full-size expansion pads left (counting the Millennium villiage plot). I have 20-20 vision but perhaps someone could verify.

Future World, on the other hand, has far fewer. Exact number depends on what you consider an expansion pad.

What does #lazy mean, and who or what are you calling lazy? Disney? Me? The other poster? I'm totally confused.

WoL had Body Wars, which was a pretty popular attraction, and the only thrill ride in FW for a good while. People would LOOK for it, either on the maps or asking a CM.
You could also argue that Disney allowed WoL to become hidden over the years. Keeping the large arching sign and cutting back the foliage would have done wonders (pun not intended but guess it works). It's like they wanted it to fail, especially once the sponsorship was lost.

I believe there is only one place for a new pavilion in Future World - between The Land and The Seas.

There are seven expansion areas remaining in World Showcase:
1) Millennium Village (which is doubtful that is going anywhere because of special events)
2) Between the UK pavilion and International Gateway
3) Between France and Morocco
4) Between Morocco and Japan
5) Between Italy and Germany
6) Two spaces between Germany and China

A systematic plan to add one new pavilion to World Showcase every five years would be a great idea.

1 as you said, doubtful. But the tent is a temporary structure for a reason.
2 squeezable. And is on the radar. In fact this whole area could see some changes in the coming years.
3 that may be spoken for. Time will tell ;)
6 one is certainly deemed too close to the RoE marina now. The other could be too, and could be part of the reason a connector to the CBR stalled.

2- That whole area, as in UK or International Gateway, or both?
3- I smell a rat.
6- I am half-shocked the Caribbean Beach waterway was a legitimate plan.

I hope that space between Morocco and France isn't used for an IP instead of a new country.

If it is an IP, I'm guessing Aladdin, or Hunchback of Notre Dame in that space.

This is an old map of the Future World Expansion pad. I think it is one of @marni1971 works.

Obviously, most of them are now taken. I am not sure what is in the expansion pad behind UoE.
