News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I actually said this to myself walking though the area with the circular half concrete/half wood benches. Glad to see I’m not alone.

It’s still a nice area and fits the community theme well it think, but the elements in it are very metro city downtown office/parkish.

Which is exactly how I felt about the airport concourse food area they built in place of the Electric Umbrella.

I just heard the office park park lighting is already broken. 🤣

High pressure water leak next to Moana’s water thingy. Pathway closed near it

from another site
“The leak started over a week ago and has been emitting air and a loud hissing sound since the incident began. Disney initially just put stanchions around the area and kept the pathway open. Now, as crews perform the repair, the walkway is closed to guests”

Ouch

It's a contemporary urban park(with its own background music and mostly working? lighting system) that you can find in any medium to large city these days, which to be fair is what the Original Communicore Plaza was as well.

For a company that can build SWGE and Pandora, it seems kind of ordinary.

From Reddit. Not sure how accurate it is. I also skipped a few pages, so sorry if this has already been posted.

“Just throwing this out there for anyone who might be thinking of making a special trip or reworking their itinerary to see the new World Celebration Gardens at Epcot…
They dun broke it.
Some sort of miscommunication happened after hours with pressure washing and the giant Epcot logo in the center is essentially non functional. Park management is debating just turning it off entirely if it gets much worse.
It’s going to need weeks to months to be repaired. The amount of damage has also apparently broken some of the embedded controllers so some other lighting like trees/planters/etc… are also out of service.
If you wanting to go and see the lights with the Spaceship Earth light show you’re probably better off going to see it from the entrance side of Spaceship Earth where everything works at the moment.
Also - pathways near Journey of Water are back behind walls with the walkways torn up because of a pressurized pipe burst.
This roll out hasn’t gone so well…”

Its ironic that TRON NEEDS pressure washing and doesn't get it, and this that should not get pressure washed GETS pressure washed!! 👎

Just back from an evening at EPCOT. Overall, I enjoyed myself. I actually decided to renew my pass just to be able to go see it. I generally am good with that decision, with some caveats. For World Celebration Gardens, this is the right idea. But, it feels very budget cut and a little underwhelming. However, I'm happy with the IDEA here. If some new creativity and a proper budget could be added, this is something that pushes EPCOT forward in a way I think both the purists, pixie dusters and day guests would enjoy.

PROS:
-It is very much a tech-hub corporate sitting area. While many lob this as a criticism (which I fully understand), I actually think that works. In 2023, that's probably the best version of this area. The trees are very nice, and it creates little alcoves in the center of the park. That's welcome.
-People were enjoying themselves, myself included. I sat on one of the benches outside Creations with a beer. It was nice just taking in the atmosphere. I'm a convert that the garden approach worked well.
-This could be slowly updated and things swapped out relatively easily to keep it fresh. Much like a good hotel lobby, the bones work. So, the "dressing" could be evolved over time without a full overhaul.
-The music was great. I think they may have fixed the sound, as it didn't seem overly loud at all. And, the continuation through the park made for a very cohesive feel.
-The lights were very, very nice. (But... see below.) People were definitely in the central area enjoying it, especially along the lights.
-As Epcot is the "locals" park for WDW, I think the area has a lot of potential for use. Unlike those corporate parks, APers who just want to be in the park now have a place to relax. It's a lot like Disneyland's benches, and I think that's a good thing.

CONS:
-The balance is way off. I know I probably went in looking for this, but it was noticeable. The "missing 1/4" could actually be solved quite easily with some sort of installation. But, just having random trees with nothing makes no sense. It makes the place feel off.
-Even worse - I fear CommuniCore Hall is going to really make this noticeable. I know it's not finished, but the building looks way too small. It's shorter and less substantial than the original buildings. And, the finishes don't look great already. It feels like something out of the old DTD West Side. It feels cheap. I really hope they do something to plus this. Because, it wreaks of budget cut right now. And, having that plus the nothing trees across from the substantial Creations and Connections looks way off and is definitely noticeable. Plus, when the CommuniCore Hall sign is added, you'll have 3 signs and then a missing one. This is just bad design in a park that has always had the most balanced design/layout of any theme park.
-The lights were definitely broken. The ground lighting was static colors. As were the trees. The only thing changing were the tower lights. That is a huge issue (let alone this soon into its run).
-The area desperately needs kinetic energy, especially without the lights. The central planter makes no sense. The tower lights all focus in on it, and there is nothing. Again, this could be a simple fix. I would vote for either: (1) a kinetic sculpture of the Epcot logo, or (2) a modern/Epcot version of DisneySea's AquaSphere. Either could look great and solve the problem easily.
-The other HUGE miss is the giant planter south of the central garden. What is this thing? It's huge, has random plants and railings and does NOTHING. Now, if they added the sculpture or fountain to the logo, this could easily be the seasonal display. And, that would be fine. Or, this could make for a nice, low fountain. But, as it is, it is a waste of space.
-The World Celebration name really makes no sense.
-The cohesiveness of the entry through World Celebration makes the other additions really stand out. I really wish they would let someone/a team oversee ALL aspects of EPCOT so there is a clear narrative and perspective. That would help a lot.

Overall, I enjoy it. But, I don't know that it accomplishes that much given the time. It's really hard to sit there and not think of what it could have been had this been the original 4 buildings, a version of these gardens (with a fountain) and the entrance we got. But, I think this overall a sign of positive things - if the company will listen.

I'll do a post on Luminous in that thread later as well. (Similar themes will abound.)

I haven’t followed the whole Epcot update too closely, but is this everything that was announced (other than the Play Pavilion) done now? Seems kinda underwhelming if this is it.

This current plan has always felt off...People say that it was a result of budget cuts and the missing festival center, but I think even if the Festival Center was built, it would still feel off.
The Communicore Hall thing looks very cheap and odd so far...we will see when it is complete, but the whole thing looks more like it was designed by urban planners that had never been to EPCOT and the job directive was to just make it look as far as they can get it from what it was...on a budget.

Agreed. This is one of the bigger design issues in my opinion. I am suspecting, that this will become one of the areas that will be heavily used during the festivals. Exactly what, I'm not sure, but that seems to be the only purpose of it.

I had that thought, too. From last night, there was NO ONE near that area. If they added a sculpture or small fountain to the central planter (which already has a draw) and then a constantly rotating seasonal/festival decor install to the southern planter, that would actually look pretty great IMHO. Plus, it would spread the crowd out a bit.

I remember thinking from Bio's pics that the railings were going to be a curtain fountain effect all the way around, alas not.
