How is GotG able to be in WDW?

The rights licensed to Universal in Florida only cover a subset of all the Marvel superhero characters, most notably Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-Men, and Avengers and their closely associated characters (e.g., their main archnemeses). All other Marvel superheros can be used by Disney in Florida, even though in the comics there have been crossovers and temporary inclusions as "an Avenger." So, GotG characters and Doctor Strange have already appeared in WDW. I'm pretty sure Ms. Marvel will be able to, though, it will be a close call with Black Panther.

This theme park black-out applies only to east of the Mississippi and, by a separate licensing craziness, to some characters in Japan. Otherwise all Marvel heroes can appear in all the other Disney Parks.

Universal also has control over the use of "Marvel" everywhere (or just in the US?). So, neither Orlando nor Anaheim can use "Marvel" in the theme park (except for merchandising apparently).

Headache inducing legal loopholes, If I were UNI I would try to sue Disney for breach of contract if only to protect Epcot. Again, I am very unhappy that the movie did well, because that just gives Chapek and his "Sharp Pencil Boys" more excuses to ruin Epcot or Tower of Terror or any timeless classic attraction they can justify turning into a movie commercial. Guardians of the Galaxy, I will hate you until the day I die.

Has there been anything said about a new music loop? I like all the music that's played in Epcot (past and present) but it's time for a update. They can't keep playing the Innoventions loop when it's not there anymore...right...RIGHT? Then again, they could cheap out in places that most normal guests won't notice. Hate to bring it up in this thread, but what happened to Tomorrowland getting a new music loop?

I would think a new music loop is in the works. As much as I like the current loop (It was arguably the best part of Innoventions.) You can only rely on 90s-era New Age Music for so long. No offense to David Arkenstone.

I think the Innoventions BGM is quite possibly the king of loops. I would hate to see it go. But if there had to be something new, I'd love to hear something that prominently features the musical themes of past and present Epcot attractions. Something like what the current Tomorrowland loop has in it.

I wish they would because the odds are it would backfire,

It's been brought up before. Text within the contract allows Disney to, East of the Mississippi River, use Marvel properties other than those being NBC Universal, and that is as follows:
East of The Mississippi - any other theme park is limited to using characters not currently being used by MCA at the time such other license is granted. [For purpose of this subsection and subsection iv, a character is “being used by MCA” if (x) it or another character of the same “family” (e.g., any member of THE FANTASTIC FOUR, THE AVENGERS or villains associated with a hero being used) is more than an incidental element of an attraction, is presented as a costumed character, or is more than an incidental element of the theming of a retail store or food facility; and, (y) in addition, if such character or another character from the same “family” is an element in any MCA marketing during the previous year. Any character who is only used as a costume character will not be considered to be “being used by MCA” unless it appears as more than an incidental element in MCA’s marketing.]
In other words, it would be impossible for UNI to sue Disney for breach of contract in that manner. But if Disney was trying to put Spiderman into WDW, then and only then would NBC Universal sue Marvel for contract infringement.

It almost seems as if the Illuminations replacement and the WS work (though I doubt if we get a new country it opens by the 50th) is a sort of phase 1 completion date 2021. Then the FW stuff comes after

Which would make sense: "strengthen" World Showcase with new attractions and entertainment, make the people spend more time there while they go after Future World later.

Between the U.K. Attraction and RAT and then also the rumors of a new country and coco overlay in Mexico it seems as if the WS plans are more solid/further ahead. I agree the thought seems to be that we already have soarin, TT, and SSE over in FW so now they need to move people from there and Norway to the rest of WS.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 provided more fodder for things that could be included in pavilions at Future World in addition to GOTG 1.

Spoilers for the movie are below:

GOTG2 SPOILERS! :
You've got Ego the living planet which has something that is seemingly like a human brain and nervous system to some degree
-This could be used for things in the Wonders of Life pavilion for something that involves topics similar to Cranium Command or could be used at Journey into Imagination for something that involves topics at least vaguely similar to Journey into Imagination

You've got Mantis that can feel emotions and make people go to sleep
-This could also be used for things in an attraction/area that involves topics similar to Cranium Command or for something else in the Wonders of Life pavilion

Reproduction and propagation of animals/beings is a major topic in the movie.
-This could also be used for things in an attraction/area that involves topics similar to The Making of Me or for something else in the Wonders of Life pavilion

The fact that Ego has a planet that is at least part of his body is an interesting thing in the movie.
-This could also be used for things in the Wonders of Life pavilion

You can see Ego without his skin and see his organs and stuff
-This is a little minor thing in movie, but could also be used for things in the Wonders of Life pavilion

Some of the psychological aspects of the movie particularly with Peter, Yondu, and Ego's interactions and maybe the concepts of 'heart' and the purpose of life
-These could maybe also be used for things in attractions/areas in the Wonders of Life pavilion

There are also some things in the movie that relate to nebulous concepts of 'energy' or 'power' in the movie
Rocket steals some sort of batteries that are said to be very powerful from some aliens and is chased by them afterwards
-This could be used for things (particularly some sort of ride about the chase) in the Universe of Energy pavilion

I believe Ego talks with Peter about some kind of nebulous concept of 'power' that could be maybe be acceptably said to be some kind of 'energy'
-This could be used for things in the Universe of Energy pavilion or could be for things used at Journey into Imagination because apparently Ego used this 'power' to create things made out of matter from some stuff that he imagines

Peter's affinity for dancing and music is something that could be used...
-for attractions/areas in the Wonders of Life pavilion
-in an attraction as a replacement for Captain EO
-and/or maybe even for some stage show similar to the show in Shanghai Disneyland's Tomrrowland with Big Hero 6 characters giving exercise instructions but involving dancing instead.

Also, something interesting in this movie and the first movie is that Peter Quill is from Missouri even though he is from Colorado in the comics. This is an interesting change. As many here may know Walt Disney spent much of his childhood in Missouri. Also, Missouri is very close to and just west of the Mississippi River which many here have said is a dividing line for determining whether certain Marvel characters can appear in theme parks in the USA. Although, some of the characters in the GotG don't seem to have this apply to them.

More people in lines in WS and added crowds should help keep people in the area longer. This might actually help some of the eateries, shops and especially an small outdoor vendors create revenue

they dont need help, except for maybe spice road,,everything from stores to the restaurants to the outdoor booths have been packed to the gills, I dont want to hear Disney whining about money, crowds have been insane in WS.

Okay now I'm just imagining Kurt Russell doing a Making of Me attraction...
